Dolittle: That's what I understand happened in Ellen's case too. She was told and I believe signed an agreement that she wouldn't give the dog away. It makes sense that the shelter wants to screen potential homes for the pets they place. They are being responsible when they do that. And that they followed up and took the dog back when Ellen violated the agreement speaks highly of their commitment to animals.

Papa: I agree that Ellen carried the whole situation too far. Granted she is a very popular celeb but that doesn't give anyone the right to break rules. When I adopted my little MinPin, I signed an agreement that said she goes back to the shelter if things didn't work out. Am quiet sure that Ellen signed the same type agreement.

Eriisa: I saw that too. Last night another woman came forward and told the news that Ellen had given away a puppy she gave her. So this isn't the first time. It's all so strange.

Papa:Fox News had the shelter's attorney on and he stated that the shelter did tell the family that all they had to do was go fill out the paperwork application for the dog, and they refused to do that. I did not hear that from any media outlet.

Jim Dandy: It's a sad situation all around. But a person with access to the media can paint something anyway they want and the other person (in this case the owner of the shelter) finds herself on defensive. A sad commentary when you consider the fact that both parties are strong advocates for animals rights etc. The dog is likely in a very good home and that's the important thing. And the new "caretakers" of the dog followed all the guidelines of the shelter. That's the way it ought to be. A good outcome for the dog, in my view.

Papa: I agree, wielding her audience like a knife in battle was unfortunate.I get the feeling she was only asked to follow proper procedure but felt she was above it all.

Jim Dandy: I think Ellen went too far. At first I was sympathetic. But she broke the rules. And the shelter owners have the right and responsibility to make sure the animals they adopt out are well cared for. The new owners of the dog refused to comply with the shelter's request and fill out the proper paperwork. Ellen used her celebrity status against the woman at the shelter and also had her lawyers on it. And of course with the media it has now gotten way out of hand. Cute pup though!
I'm probably on my fifth (?) shelter animal/pet & every one of them (including my current mentally gifted but very beautiful and loving doggie) has been co-owned by both the shelter and myself, meaning that if for some reason I can't keep them, or something happens to me, they go back to the no-kill shelter that I adopted them from. I think from the PSPCA's (Pennsylvania Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) point-of-view it's to ensure that the pet will never be put down unnecessarily or put in an environment that the society doesn't approve of beforehand. I don't know if they do that for every animal they adopt out, as mine were "special" cases, I was interviewed, supplied references, etc.....my dog is even "chipped" with both our info just in case.....If Ellen was aware from the get-go, I don't see why she was so upset about it, there are literally thousands upon thousands of shelter animals across the country that need homes
Jim Dandy: Best of luck to both of you. And keep us posted.
My youngest and I paid a visit to the kitty cardiologist today. Some insurance coverage might have been helpful! But she's really okay--nothing wrong that couldn't be explained by her heart beating at about 240 bpm when we visit the vet. She's just an excitable girl...but a surprisingly good patient. Now that we've both had ultrasound, we know my murmur's worse than hers.
wetware: It looks like we are finally narrowing down the problem.Either Lymphoma(we pray not,and I doubt it by recounting her syptoms) or Irrittable bowel syndrome. The biopsy is very expensive but thankfully our insurance will cover it.
Tuesday: I think Rose is right on the money with that one - I had an older ferret who was on a really special diet and dry cat food was his main food (easy to eat/digest), but three different Vets (he was sickly and spent alot of time at the docs office) told me never to give him dog food, even the all-natural stuff cause his system couldn't break it down. I used to put some dry cat food mixed in the dog's food and that kept the dog out of the ferrets food dish. Even tho the ferret's passed on, I still give the dog some cat food mixed in, I think she's more of a chicken/fish dog then redmeat
Tuesday: Ive heard that dog food is not good for cats.. Too harsh on the system. What about putting their food up high so the dog cant reach? A counter top or even on top of the fridge. Every one of mine can get on top of the fridge...
Show went well...he got a "G" rating with high possibility of "SG" in his future...so,I will get his title and reshow him in a few years. We had a great time this weekend too!! There was a race for the dogs...Niki won her puppy division,lol.....she has her Mommies speed that's for sure.
Now I have to focus on getting him ready for his November trials.I decided NOT to run him in the AD as it was in the mid 80's and much to hot for him to run any distance..I will run it with him in November.
The judgment of cats is at hand: how neatly God has arraigned them!
You there, my silken mistress, how many dead birds must we put to your credit? And you, the rangy tomcat with cauliflower ears and a nose that's seen better days, whatever became of those goldfish when your people were gone for a week? Oh, how the cries of field mice, slaughtered in thousands, rise up against you! Where will you turn? Where will you turn? Even now the furnace of wrath glows hot for vengeance against your sins.
But Lord, they cry, purring and mewing, Lord! with plaintive uplifted faces, we did not know, we could not help it! It was our nature to kill soft things, shining things, whatever would move, whatever ran from before us!
Well, says the Lord, you may plead and pray, and say with some justice that you could not help it, that it was your nature, but the surprise is, my children, you're no less accountable for that!
