Tuesday: we have a TON of the mills here around us..It just surprises me that they can get away with the treatment of the animlas like that! I won't go into the type of people that run these mills, but anyone that does a bit of reasearch will know who they are...seems they are exempt from alot of the laws we are held to.I don't get that.Petland, whcih is a petstore close to us buys from a broker out of Pittsburg.I overheard one sales person telling a customer what a close relationship they have with the breeder....My husband said, yeah, now how about telling them what kind of conditions the pups REALLY come from.Wish they would have herad that comment.

CAT DIARY
Day 983 of my captivity.
My captors continue to taunt me with bizarre little dangling objects. They dine lavishly on fresh meat-while the other inmates and I are fed hash or some sort of dry nuggets. Although I make my contempt for the rations perfectly clear, I nevertheless must eat something in order to keep up my strength. The only thing that keeps me going is my dream of escape.
In an attempt to disgust them, I once again vomit on the carpet. Today I decapitated a mouse and dropped its headless body at their feet. I had hoped this would strike fear into their hearts, since it clearly demonstrates what I am capable of. However, they merely made condescending comments about what a 'good little hunter' I am. Idiots!
There was some sort of assembly of their accomplices tonight. I was placed in solitary confinement for the duration of the event. However, I could hear the noises and smell the food. I overheard that my confinement was due to the power of 'allergies.' I must learn what this means and how to use it to my advantage.
Today I was almost successful in an attempt to assassinate one of my tormentors by weaving around his feet as he was walking. I must try this again tomorrow -- but at the top of the stairs.
I am convinced that the other prisoners here are flunkies and snitches.
The dog receives special privileges. He is regularly released - and seems to be more than willing to return. He is obviously beyond hope.
Tuesday: It sickens me when I see people going into a petstore to buy a puppy. If they were able to see WHERE the dogs come from and WHAT the conditions the parents live in,it would sicken them.Need to be stronger laws against people that run the puppymills
rod03801: I'm with ya on that one, about caring more about the animals!! I use to work at an animal hospital/humane dept and the things I saw come through WERE really disturbing. How people can do that stuff to an animal is unreal...I think these will be good stories tho (the Vick dogs) to show how dogs CAN be rehabed to fit into society, even after suffering at the hands of humans.
anastasia: I can't watch Animal Planet. There's too many shows about animal abuse, or animals being rescued from precarious situations.. It breaks my heart! lol. I used to watch that channel all the time, but I ended up finding many of the shows bothered me too much. Even when things turn out good in the end, watching the parts that lead up to that are just too upsetting to me. I think I care more about animals than I do people !! LOL...
Saving the Michael Vick DogsFRIDAY SEPTEMBER 5 9P FRIDAY SEPTEMBER 5 8P FRIDAY SEPTEMBER 5 7P FRIDAY SEPTEMBER 5 9P FRIDAY SEPTEMBER 5 8P FRIDAY SEPTEMBER 5 6P In April 2007, the nation was shocked when dozens of traumatized pit bulls were discovered on Atlanta Falcons quarterback Michael Vicks property. Follow the journey of four of the most challenging Vick dogs as DogTown helps rehabilitate them.
Last year’s federal case against Vick dominated the media for months, generating public concern for the dogs seized from Bad Newz Kennels—and for animal victims across the country still involved in this brutal “sport.” The sentence may have been handed down, but the concern and questions still remain. What happened to the dogs seized in the case? How did Vick get involved in this underworld?
Many of these questions will be answered this Sunday night during “Animal Witness: The Michael Vick Case," the premiere episode of Animal Planet’s new series on animal forensics. The one-hour show offers an in-depth look at Vick and exposes the hidden world of dog fighting—and for the first time on national television, lead investigator Bill Brinkman talks about the inner workings of the case.
The episode will also feature interviews with Dr. Melinda Merck, ASPCA Forensic Veterinarian, and Officer Annemarie Lucas, Supervisory Special Investigator, ASPCA Humane Law Enforcement. As reported in ASPCA News Alert, the ASPCA worked closely with federal authorities at every step of the case, first assisting in forensic examinations and later leading behavior evaluations of the seized dogs.
“The involvement of an extremely high-profile celebrity in the horrific sport of dog fighting prompted universal public outrage and condemnation,” says ASPCA President & CEO Ed Sayres. “This case will forever remain a pivotal point in the history of animal welfare in this country and the world.”
The episode is scheduled to air at 10:00 P.M. EST this Sunday evening, August 24. Please visit Animal Planet online to learn more. Please note, the episode does feature footage from underground dog fighting videos—viewer discretion is advised

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. - An apparent set of conjoined twin birds — an incredibly rare find — has been discovered in Arkansas, authorities said. ADVERTISEMENT
The bodies of the barn swallows, which are attached at the hip by skin and possibly muscle tissue, are being sent to the Smithsonian Institution for examination and confirmation, Arkansas wildlife officials said Friday.
"I can't even say it's one in a million — it's probably more than that," said Karen Rowe, an ornithologist with the Arkansas Game & Fish Commission. "There's just very little to no records of such a thing."
The birds, found by a landowner in White County, fell out of a nest as a healthy sibling flew off to learn how to hunt with its parents, Rowe said. The birds first appeared to have only three legs, but further examination found a fourth leg tucked up underneath the skin connecting the pair.
Rowe said the landowner likely kept the birds for a day before calling wildlife officials. By the time officials arrived, the birds were not eating. One died early Friday and a veterinarian later euthanized the other.
Finding conjoined birds is rare because they likely die before being discovered, Rowe said.
X-rays of the pair found each bird was fully formed, Rowe said. She said the birds would have had to come from a double-yolk egg.
Barn swallows can live for several years, though the conjoined twins might not have lived that long even if they had been separated. Rowe said it would have been difficult to teach the birds to fly.

wetware: In some was it comes across as an admission of guilt. If eating dog is ok in their minds, why ban it for any event.................ok,maybe if they were hosting a dog show

srnity: I don't know. I'm really puzzled about getting supposed benefits from quantities of powdered organs (especially penises--what's up with that?), horns, antlers, etc., in traditional Chinese medicine. Especially if it leads to poaching and near-extinction.
I'm coming up on my 40th anniversary of going meatless. How time flies, eh?

Jim Dandy: I wish they'd back off (perhaps even permanently, not just for the Olympics visit) from using endangered species for their "traditional" medicines.
Относно: Re: Dog meat off Chinese menus during upcoming Beijing Olympics
Jim Dandy: Sooo, if the Olympics were held in India would they start eating cows? I don't think they should have to alter their culture for anyone/anything, it's their way of life (but I don't eat animals so what do I know)
Относно: Dog meat off Chinese menus during upcoming Beijing Olympics
BEIJING - Canine cuisine is being sent to the doghouse during next month's Beijing Olympic Games. The Xinhua News Agency reports dog meat has been struck from the menus of officially designated Olympic restaurants.Beijing tourism officials are telling other outlets to discourage consumers from ordering dishes made from dogs. Dog, known in Chinese as "xiangrou," or "fragrant meat," is eaten by some Chinese for its purported healthy qualities. Beijing isn't the first Olympic host to slap a ban on the dish.South Korea banned dog meat during the 1988 Seoul Olympics by invoking a law prohibiting the sale of "foods deemed unsightly."
