That's the size-40 image set and it's clearly missing these Plakota images. In the smaller size-25 image set they are available. http://i.brainking.com/back/wreup25h-2.gif.
stargood: i had that sometimes over the years. It is just an image display issue, and has no effect on the game itself (aside from that you cannot see how many pieces are stacked up).
If you go to another computer/smartphone, the problem is typically gone; you might be able to resolve it by flushing your buffers (use CTRL + F5 on a PC), or purging the cache (depending on your browser). It could also be that the image server currently has an issue with this file.
Hello all, I have been away from the site for a while and I am now playing a game of Plakoto. Everything seems normal, except for one display glitch. I've read that this glitch is not to be considered a bug, but it is very annoying to say the least.
The glitch is: After pinning one of my opponent's checkers, that point, checkers included, is not displayed at all. There just remains a tall rectangle with a question mark in it signifying that that particular image is missing. This has happened twice already. She has not pinned any of my checkers yet, but I can only assume the same blank rectangle will occur. Has anyone ever experienced this problem before? With me starting from the upper right, the two points in question are the 17 & 19.
If this keeps happening I don't know what to do. I hope that this is not happening to everyone who plays Plakoto here. Now I have added another checker to the 19 point and it too vanished.
I guess I could ask my opponent if she is having the same problem, but I don't think she speaks English.
Clandestine 1: The chance of losing when that one man left got hit was about 5%. Once your opponent had closed his home table with the spare men on the high points he had 8% or so chance of winning. It seems surprisingly high given that you have only one man left but you have to bear in mind that getting that man off the bar, around the tables and off the board requires 25 pips, which is 3 average rolls of 8.2 pips each, and that only starts when you get in. As your luck shows, that can be just too little, too late.
It can be done using an honour system, that is, if a game ends gammonly then the loser resigns the next game, or two for a backgammon. However an automatic system is definitely preferable.
playBunny: I have wanted to play cubeless Backgammon while counting gammons and backgammons since Fencer added Backgammon to the site. If it does have this feature, please let me know. I'll join or create some quick moving tournaments of it. Thank you.
I have an open invitation to all plakoto and Fevga players to join my fellowship as on July 15th, we will start a new tournament for each of these games. So if you are interested send me a membership request so I can add you to the fellowship and then you sign up to play. Thank you.
I knew about the Rules link (as i asked for it many years ago lol)
Ah, then you would remember! Good request.
For me, I knew it a long time ago too but a few weeks ago I was looking into the rules of different variants and couldn't find an easy way ... until I noticed that wee link that I had stopped seeing. ;o)
playBunny: Thanks my friend, i will pass the info on.....
I knew about the Rules link (as i asked for it many years ago lol), but as you say there is no explanation for Triple Gammon. I guess it may be on the old other brainking blog page, but again i have no clue of thats still running lol
MadMonkey: The rules for playing are the same. The scoring is the only difference. 1 for a win, 3 for a gammon and 5 for a backgammon.
The strategy for playing is different. Because gammons are worth so much you should play all-out for gammon. Take greater risks in building your home table and in attacking. Hit when you would normally hesitate.
(In case you've got so used to it that you never see it anymore, there's a link to the rules on every game page just after the name of the game type, eg. Backgammon (show rules). Finding a game if you haven't go one takes a few clicks via Menu: Statistics -> Running Games -> Backgammon). Triple Gammon isn't actually a game type so you'd have to find a backgammon game in a tourney with "triple" in the name. There's then a notification under the board. Backgammon (gambler104 vs. ajtgirl)
Can some please fill me in on the Rules etc.... for Triple Gammon. Its been years since i played it, and can not remember what the difference is in the games. Now someone has asked me and i am stuck lol
pgt: I wouldn't worry mate, it's the website that won't survive another 5 years of this slow playing madness. Websites lacking dynamism do not survive on the world wide web, they become tombstones.
Vikings: I'm not actually fussed about winning or losing the tournament. As I said, I am 75 years old now, and if it goes on for another 5 years, I might well be dead, and then take another 7 years to time out before the next round can begin. In the end the winner will be the player who outlives all the others! What a great result THAT would be!!
pgt: How about manually calculating the winners of each round and start an invitational tournament with just those players, that is if those 2 players don't figure in to it. Then ask fencer to delete the current tournament when the round finally finishes
pgt: Out of curiosity, what about that other option, "banning" yourself!? Other sites have a similar mix of gammons and no, or weaker, restrictions on tournaments.
playBunny: I think I will just add entries to this forum until either I am banned from the sire, or the two spoilers are. It is just RIDICULOUS that two people can hold up a tournament for NINE YEARS Yes, NINE YEARS. How many onther tournaments have taken NINE YEARS to complete the first round. Is there anybody listening who can actually speed things up?
Относно: Re: NINE bloody long, wasted - no, make that *stolen* - tournament playing YEARS
pgt: there are still TWO players playing THE FIRST ROUND!!!
At 4-4 in a 9-point match where neither player has got up the nerve to even look at the cube or go for gammon, it'll be another decade yet.
Is there anything anybody can do to speed things up?
This small nucleus of inert site-spoilers either don't care two hoots or lack awareness of their selfish effect. We are but tiny, distant, insignificant electrons and our frantic whizzing around is not for them.
Unfortunately the only practical option is to start a new account.
GoodFoods' 6th Broiling Backgammon Invitational (Backgammon) It's 9 (NINE - that's NINE) YEARS (YEARS, not weeks or days - YEARS since the first round of this tournament and there are still TWO players playing THE FIRST ROUND!!! I'm 75 years old now, and fear that I'll die before I am eligible to play in another tournament, if I don't die before thr end of the first round. Is there anything anybody can do to speed things up?
Please join Brian's 1971 Pub to be able to play in our gammon games starting on May 15th. The tournaments will be played under Triple Gammon rules. The more the merrier. Request membership to be accepted in.
coan.net & playBunny: i agree: a resignation at this point would give my opponent 2 points, but my timeout gives him 3 point ? what is the difference between a timeout and a resignation ?
the only reason i can think of is that it is meant as a punishment against timing out ?
in this case it clearly is a backgammon timeout :)
i rarely timeout, so i dont know what a timeout does do for the match score in other game types
(i am trying to find the limits for my time control to cover my 3day-busy-reallife-weekens, and 3days to start seems ok, 10 days max seems ok, but 3 hours bonus per move seems too little compared with different timezones :))
I disagree, and think it should have been 3 points.
Backgammon (3 points) - the opponent hasn't borne off any pieces and still has some pieces either on the bar or in the winner's home area (the six pipes where the winner bears off own pieces).
Since at that point, you COULD still have been sent back to the bar and/or your home area, then the max possible should be counted with a timeout in my opinion - so 3 points is what I would think a timeout should be worth.

Hrqls: If you had resigned then you are correct your opponent would have gotten two points.
Timing out should also be two points here, but it has been a long time since someone timed out on me. Perhaps it always times out as a backgammon, even when it is not?
That would be a strange programming decision, but perhaps Fencer didn't have his thinking cap on that day, and it never got corrected?
