it would be nice if we could set a favourite language for the boards
by this i mean a setting per user in which he/she can configure which board will be shown in the red number next to the fellowship name
it would be very nice if a different setting could be done per fellowship, but 1 favourite language for all fellowships would ok as well :)
i ask for this because i am in some fellowships which have czech as their main boards. i only see a red number next to the fellowshipname when there is a new post on the czech board. i wont be notified of a new post on the english or dutch board (which some of those czech fellowships have as well)
of course i can add all those english or dutch boards to my favourite boards, but that list is too long already :)
so it would be nice if i could set a language to be my favourite, which would then be used as the board which shows itself in the red number, and if that language is not available then the main board of that fellowship
I have some stairs set up and just added on Ludo..BUT,it set up ANOTHER backgammon stairs game because there is no way to edit it off of the set up page..it is at the top, with the option to add more stairs, well, now I have 2 gammon stairs..I would like to see a better edit mode for stairs and tourneys...you click on the games(s) that you want to add,period..if you don't click to confirm it,it doesn't get added.
would it be possible to get one of the following..either volcano free espionage verion(s)or extra colors for the pieces.. such as blue or red or yellow or orange..etc...
I would like to see a possibility create automatic filter & notifier which notify me when ever there is a new tournamet available corresponding my predefined criteras (see my previous post)
Example: I could create rule that I would like to receive message from all backgammon games where the move time is more than 5 days and I am able to join the game. BKR is suitable, not full already...
Actually it could be additional functionality in find tournaments. --> Send notify.
I would like to see additional filter in tournaments listing based on Time Control & BKR & possible to sign up.
Personnally I prefer to play only +5 days games and it would ease game finding if I could define that I wan't to see only games where I have more than five days for move and I am able to sign up.
Currently I need to go into each game just to see that my BKR is too low or I don't have enough brains to join the game.
Fencer: Fair enough. Certainly the code needs to be able to count territory if it's going to determine who is the winner. Identifying dead stones, though, is a separate issue, and counting all stones as alive doesn't necessarily break the game. But I'm sure you'll come up with a good system, and I can be patient. :)
One more question, and then I'll leave you alone:
Will Black play first, as is standard in Go?
KotDB: Actually, if you don't mind the missing scoring algorhithm, I could release Go immediately :-) But I would like to do at least some scoring support first.
Fencer: Go is coming! This is truly good news. Can you tell us which rule set (Japanese, Chinese, American,...) will be implemented?
Is it necessary to have the code detect live and dead groups? Even if all stones were counted as alive, in practice this would just require the players to contine playing until any dead stones were captured. Better yet, you could use the procedure recommended by the rules of the American Go Association, in which each player indicates which of his opponent's stones he believes are dead, and if they disagree, they play on.
ΜīήďSрŷ: Go is already being developed and the game models are virtually finished (capturing, ko and other rules work well). The only problem is the final score counting which is not solved yet (detecting of live and dead groups, territory counting).
(Go)
One of the oldest board games known, Go originated in China as early as 2000 B.C., according to some sources. The goal is to control territory on the board by placing stones. There is regular Go (GX) played on a 19x19 size board, and the easier 9x9 (G9) and 13x13 (G3) versions. Basic rules provide only a brief introduction to help the beginner get started. Takes in depth study to get the hang of.
This is truly my favorite board game, but unfortunately it's not at this site. Maybe you guys can check into it. It's the toughest among all the stone games, not only the most fun to play.
Относно: as the Church Lady on Saturday Night Live...
would say "Oh, sorry. Ne'er mind!" when she was told that something was not right that she said - I found the decline function - like I said, my thinking abilities come and go.
Относно: It would be very helpful to some people...
if there was an option to decline an invitation to a non-stairs/non-tournament/non-club-challenge game especially when it is obvious when the person doing the inviting did not read the profile of the person they are inviting or they would not have invited the invitee that particular type of game. I just had this happen where someone invited me and I cannot find a way to decline the game without playing it out and I do not see it as being very fun for either of us because of my difficulty with this particular type of game and my ability for that type of game and its variants wavers unpredictably from bad to just terrible depending on how my autoimmune disorders are playing with my brain (most games other than chess and its variants are somewhat easier for my brain to keep up with for some reason maybe because all of the pieces move in the same way as all of the other pieces as the other pieces aka all checkers pieces move on diagonals while in chess rooks move in a different way from a bishop etc). This is not a complaint about how the chess games are played because they are ancient games that are played in the same ways all over the world, just stating the facts about my ability to play them and my seeing a need to be able to decline an invite before the game is started like I have seen as an option on other sites.
I'd like to see a sign that shows people's profiles have been updated. Sometimes there's good info in peoples' profiles that I don't want to miss. Thank you.
grenv: Correct. In my youth, I fortunately have the opportunity to watch out GM Alberic O'Kelly de Galway exploring chess games of play by mail. He was a player of great renown and evidently not a cheater!
redfrog: I agree, the practice board is a copy from the actual game.
Where we can freely move the pieces as if we had a woodden board and pieces.
Hence no need to complicate the Fencer's task with a link to the 'mechanism' of a particular game or variant but only to the shape of the board and pieces.
mctrivia: I disagree, this is "play by mail" where it is common practise to play scenarios on a board before moving. I don't think that is cheating at all.
redfrog: Only problem with this idea is it is normally when playing a game in real life you have to play out the senarios in your head. Having a board to play them out on is kind of like using another program to help you win. I think this would be a useful feature for past games. Have the ability for players to save the point at which they have figured out they can't lose and let other players try to figure out how they did it.
Caissus: maybe a link on the current real game to move into a practice board with the current pieces as they are - where you can then manipulate both sides of the board to play out some possibilities....
Because most of us have not a real board of all games at home it would be useful if we could have a “practice board” which can be used as a board to analyze the game and to play the moves forwards and backwards.
It would be helpful if the bug tracker was searchable. This would help cut down on duplicate reports. Beter yet if when you submit a bug report it automatically searches and tryes to find duplicates and asks if they are the same before submiting the report.
mctrivia: I believe Fencer is working on this, starting with a facelife of the underlying interface code that will eventually mean we can have a mobile BrainKing :)
A PDA version of this site. When I go to google.ca on my iPAQ I get a special PDA version. When I go to this site it won't let me log on. Would be nice if I could log on even beter if was set up for smaller screen size.
blazeinshore: maybe a bit playfully sarcastic, but never nasty.I love to communicate...this is a great community for doing so.but lately I have heard comments by some more pre-occupied with chatting & with prying into all kinds of info about fellow members, than with playing games in friendly competition.
