Fencer: I've found that my backgammon rating has gone up by 34 and more. Is that an expected result of the "clearout"? And, out of curiousity, is there any way for me to find where these extra points came from?
Your rating drops off the charts if you're not active in a game for 6 months (paying) or 1 month (non-paying). It isn't clear to mean what active means. Does it mean you should have finished a game in the past 6/1 month(s)? Or could I just start 10 win match with a 30 day move period, move once a month, and stay on the charts forever, without my rating changing? I hope it's the former.
1)Since Ed Trice is the inventor of Gothic Chess and since you include the other inventors of the games, why you removed his name........?
2)My rating on some games increased and on some decreased and as PlayBunny said this happened to him too. And you said that this is because the 2700 limit has been removed. But i can't see how this affects in any way the ratings! Except the cases when a player had a 2700 and stayed there after winning some games-but that doesn't happened in any of my games or PlayBunny's. So....
1)OK don't challenge your superiority of decisions, i'm just curious to see the reason behind your decision.......Can you give it to me please.......?
2)But a recalculation of the BKRs should have the same results for any number of times this recalculation will be done. I mean if now you re-recalculate the BKRs then we should have the SAME EXACT results for every player, excluding the players had a 2700. So for me for example, that didn't hit any 2700 BKR, my BKR should stay the same. But this happens if and only if the recalculation has been made only with the change for the 2700 limit. But since my BKRs changed, then something other must changed on the process of the calculation of the BKRs. Did you changed anything else......?
Chessmaster1000: 1) I don't want to start a fight here. 2) Because some games had been restored in the past and the BKR was calculated twice for them, so the results were not accurate. Now they are.
They are some reactions on the French speaking forum concerning the removal of "inactive players". It appears quite brutal (it should have been annouced in order to allow us to reactivate some games). The period of 6 months appears short (they are so many games and we appreciate very much brainking for that).
Would it be possible NOT to clear the BKR of so-called inactive players (I was disappointed to notice that my BKR for Janus chess is now unknow). I understand that the display of ranking could not take into account inactive players (it is not a bad idea, I agree) but erasing previous scores is a bit brutal, I think!
Finally, rankings are not so important and will not affect my pleasure on brainking.com!
tycho: Have a look at your Profile, Finished Games tab. The only difference is in the Position column, where some values are replaced by "-". Nothing else changes.
tycho: Your BKR for Janus Chess is not unknown - it's 1238. You are, however, no longer listed in the charts. I didn't get the impression that inactivity (or activity) is taken in account when calculating the ratings. Only the fact whether or you you're in the list matters. So, for paying members, one quick draws against someone with a similar rating twice a year is enough to keep you in the charts.
This is unlike say, the rating system on FICS, where they, beside keeping the rating, also keep a stat that measures activity - it's an indication how good established your rating is. The more you play, the less your rating will fluctuate (but the more it can fluctuate the rating of your opponent). If you play less, your rating fluctuates more after a win or loss. So, on FICS, having played 400 games way back means a new win or loss can change your rating a loss (just like you have only played a few games here), much more so than if you have only played 20, but all of the recently. And the same statistic is used to determine whether your rating is established or not. So if you have played 400 games the past month, you can be inactive for a lot longer before your drop of the charts than when you have played 20 games in the past month.
While I prefer to have a system like FICS, I think this new system (dropping of the charts if you haven't finished a game in the past 6 months) is better than the old one.
AbigailII: Thank you Fencer and AbigailII for your kind explanations. I had the false impression that the BKR were erased since I've just started a new Janus Chess game (ID: 999199) and no BKR appears around the board as usual ("not ranked" message, only).
Again, if BKR remain unchanged there is no problem at all!
Gothic Chess is my intellectual property. I have your signature on a document stating that my name will appear with ALL descriptions of that intellectual property being represented on BrainKing.
Grim Reaper: You re-read the contract, Edward. It uses the words "description of the rules of the game". And I am the one to decide which pages fulfil these conditions.
题目: Re: Shopping?? Why.. did someone say shopping??
harley: Grabs sweater and purse.. let's go.. HMmm.. LQQks around.. and snatches CC's from all the males on the boards.. Come on Harley.. whoo hoo.. lotsa moola here.. :)
I, for one, am happy to see that "Nellaf" is finally gone from the Gothic Chess rating list So thanks for that.
There seems to have been a lot of "dead wood" on the lists, in some cases 40% - 50% of the players were pawns clinging to the posts. Has anyone else noticed that?
Not sure if it's a bug or if it is suppose to be this way.
In the games which I have not completed a game for awhile (lets take Maharajah Chess for example), even though I do have a rating, it shows me as "unrated" while playing a game.
I would still think it should show my rating during a game, but just keep me off the "high ratings" list.
