Board for everybody who is interested in BrainKing itself, its structure, features and future.
If you experience connection or speed problems with BrainKing, please visit Host Tracker and check "BrainKing.com" accessibility from various sites around the world. It may answer whether an issue is caused by BrainKing itself or your local network (or ISP provider).
grant: If you get only a part of a page, it is definitely a network problem, not a BrainKing problem.
But as I can see, the problem is solved because it is your opponent's turn to move.
Well, we want to run it until the new hardware is purchased and placed on-line. Please don't be alarmed if new.brainking.com is occasionally down - it means that Liquid is tuning the load balancer or installing some additional tools.
bumble: Although I agree with you, it is not possible at the moment. The new version of BrainKing will support redirecting paying members to the faster server automatically.
Anybody who wants to participate in testing of our experimental configuration, feel free to use http://new.brainking.com. It is not a new version of BrainKing, only a kind of simple load balancer on our current servers.
It could be faster and more stable. If you have problems with that, you can always return to normal BrainKing.com URL.
It's not easy to make an universal conclusion. Well, the easiest way for me is to let people continue with the started games. But if you are sure about correct results, I can finish these games.
Greg,
I don't want to start another argument so I'll say it shortly:
1) It's everyone's right to stop playing here and it is not necessary to announce it at discussion boards.
2) When you make large enterprise applications, you usually don't do it alone and as a side project.
3) I never criticize someone else's work unless I know as much background information as possible. Especially when the work covers more jobs than a mere programming.
Just wait for Brainking being my full-time job, then you can judge me.
jason: The data were backed up on a daily basis. As I already wrote on BrainKing.info, the backup server had crashed too. At the same day. Really bad luck, eh?
Pioneer: Just an addition to harley's post. When the investment is done, I will post it immediately to the Server News. It means that nothing like that happened so far, that's why we are still running on the old hardware.
I've already told this guy what to do [yesterday]. His response is still the same, about leaving BrainKing. Well, there is not much else to say to a person who sends complaints to all sides 16 hours after registering his BK account.
And what do you think that happens after another useless post like this one of yours? The servers will automatically start working faster? An unexpected load of money will appear on my bank account and I'll be able to buy new machines?
I don't like complaints without suggested solutions. Especially from non-paying members.
Aragon: BrainKing has nothing to do with Java plug-in. Yes, BrainKing is written in Java but only on server side. Browsers get HTML pages, nothing more.
Hmmm, since a database crash is very rare event [it never happened before and the site has been launched almost a year ago], I would not define any policy for such situation.
I have recently implemented a restart-server-if-deadlock-occurs feature. It was not an easy piece of work and it needs to be finetuned. The application server restart is actually very fast - it takes only 5-10 seconds. But the overall site performance can be lower when the server is starting up. When it happens [the well-known "site is temporarily down" page], it usually helps to wait 10 seconds and reload the page. It works for me perfectly.
Of course, this is only a temporary solution. I want to make more improvements tomorrow or next week.
