pauloaguia: I think the one that caused your problem is already fixed. This one is probably a consequence of the recent short downtime and BrainKing's automatic attempt to compensate the time loss. Well, it's another thing to improve for the 3.0 version. Anyway, it is always recommended to change vacation days after playing all games, not before.
MadMonkey: yes weve all been thou the same problem i had over 500 games all with the same time other day over 200 this morning but now ive moved on them they should go back to normal timings
Fencer: Better not name it 3.0, all releases named 3.0 tend to have so many bugs in them they have to be followed up by a 3.1 soon after. Notable examples are MS word, MS windows, Firefox. If I were a release manager I'd treat a 3.0 as a 13th floor, something to be jumped over
MadMonkey: I haven't seen anything strange with my clocks. I did notice that in quite a number of games my opponent timed out the last few days. But in all those cases, they are players who make it a habit to only move if they have a few hours left to move. The past hour, 3 games where I made the last move in June 29. And earlier this week, a handful of games against a famous player who was spending a fortune buying vacation days. So, *I*'m not complaining. If the side effect of a few hours of down time is that snails are timing out, I can only wish for more down time.
Czuch: It seems I learned that the hard way, but I was trying to get a little more time since the past week has been too hectic for me to keep up with everything... I would still think that adding vacation would not take away time... I think I would have been happier if all that time had not been added last week with the server down...
tinksbell: The thing that really gets to me, is that it is because of a few rotten apples that spoil things for the majority of players. My guess is that you had a legit reason to be doing what you did, but there are a few who use that as a tactic to purposely slow down the pace of their games?
Czuch: I also don't like it when people play with their vacation because they have "way too many games". If it is because of the few bad apples then I understand completely why it happened. Of course, I think I have too many with over 200. I try to keep it around 100 normally...
so now that we have gotten rid of the"pest" of the site....do all the people with games have to wait until he times out or can Fencer do something to finish the games? Some of his games have 35 days left for him to move....ridiculous
Bernice: i guess a rook member can wait 35 days .. the games dont get in the way for a rook .. especially not when you know it will time out eventually
if there are any pawns who have a problem with it .. they can always ask it themselves
Roberto Silva: hmm personally i dont mind if a tournament takes a bit longer .. but i can understand some people do .. it might change their planned time schedule .. which might be inconvenient during the holidays :)
Czuch: I've noticed at least a player (that has two games of a team tournament against me), that has about 15 vacation days set up, and everyday he removes the nearest one, and adds another about three weeks ahead. This way, when he moves, instead of having 5 days per move, he has 25 days per move (and he has less than 50 games...). I already sent Fencer a message telling him who the player is, but since there has been some problems with naming, players, here in the forum, I won't do it. That message was sent yesterday when he had the days between 13th july and 31st july has vacation (and 17 vacation days left). He now has the days between 17th july and 4th august (and the same 17 vacation days left)
Unfortunately it is still possible to take advantage of the vacation system...
El Cid: Bruno, you needn't have hesitated to name me - I have no problem with it ;-)
As far as I know there is currently no rule that I have been breaking ... If there is any such rule, let me know and I will change my "moving policy" - it is only a kind of a protest to the current vacation rules! :D
Hexis: My point is exactly that, there is no such rule, and I understand that one should be able to remove vacation days, if you happen to regain access to the internet earlier than you expected.
What I'm trying to say is that there should be a way to prevent such an "abuse" with the vacation days (which I admit is a little better since the new "only buy 10 or 5 days of vacation"). However since there is no rule, and it's kind of an original way to protest, the only thing I can say is, at least increase the number of your games, since you don't have many problems with the "low" time controls
El Cid: I actually thought that known "loop hole" was one of the things recently fixed. I also would be interested in what Fencer says. (of course it will probable be don't worry about it, it will all change with the newer version of the system he is currently working with.)

LMAO! I was on this posting kick, and I looked back a bit at some of the old posts with my name in it... somethings never change, as the debate about vacation days usage was on at least 4 years ago!!
Fencer: Is there problems with your game clock? I've been looking at red all day with some of my opponents. I have one in particular that has no vacation days remaining & their week-end days are Saturday & Sunday. Instead of these games timing out, they reset at 24 hours. Am I not understanding the time out rules?
alilsassy: Unless you specify who the "these people", "they", "some of my opponents" or "one in particular" are/is, you can't expect anyone to help you with this. However, I do understand your fear of being hidden or banned from this board because of mentioning names here.
Pedro Martínez: I'm really confused about the time out clock on a couple of my opponents. It seems to be fluctuating in time. I'm not understanding the countdown to 0, then going into minus several hours before resetting to 12 or 24 hours. Is this a time allowance for time zones?
alilsassy: Looking at your profile and running games, my guess is that the player you're talking about is a female player from France. I've just been watching her "started games". And I've seen her games go from "1 min" to "-5 min" to "23h 50m". With her weekend days Saturday and Sunday. And it's not that today was her last vacation day - she timed out some games yesterday. (But amazingly, several others timed out against her later yesterday as well).
She also has some games where she has to make a move before tomorrow morning (Saturday). Which shouldn't happen, as Saturday is one of her weekend days.
I'd say something is wrong. Either the timeout system is broken, or the display of the time-left column is wrong.
