I just noticed - it displays the "You cannot join this team because you're alredy in one of this game type" message beneath a team even if you're not a member of the fellowship. :-)
Hmm...when I click the red number beside my main page it does take me to the game that has been waiting the longest. But when I click "Move and go to next game" it does take me to games in the order of how long they were waiting, but does not start at the beginning - i'm getting games that were only my turn since last evening.
ellie: You can do that. If you select "Go to next game" in the drop down list, and click the top "Move" button, it will take you to the game that has been your turn the longest - in other words, the games that your opponent just moved it will go to the bottom so you can play the others first.
Perhaps a (show) link when the banners are hidden to easily show them again?
Re: Battle boats / Screen Chess setup
It has been a problem quite often for me, i think since the Game editors appeared. Quite often when removing a ship / piece it will often remove the most recently placed ship / piece as well. I don't believe it happens all the time though, which is strange.
I am currently writing a program to go through every possible set of two hands and checking for the same pair and three other (different) cards that are the same. When i'm done, we'll have the actual answer.
If you know you are not drawing from the group that has two, then you have not accounted for that in your math. Also, it does matter whether the group has four or the group has three. The chances of selecting each individual card is the same (1 / (# of cards)) - not the chance of getting a 9 is the same as getting a Queen, regardless of how many of each are left.
You say:
--------
{there are just 12 "different" cards now to start...}
4 x (12 x 12) x (11 x 11) x (10 x 10) =
6,969,600.
-----
However, after the first "x12", it is no longer 12:1 that another card of the same number will be drawn - there are only three of it remaining, while there are four of the rest. Same for the 2nd "x11" and "x10".
Well based on the current exchange rate found on xe.com ($1.2319 US = 1 EUR) for the 56 EUR to pay for the 2 memberships you'd pay $68.9864 US, which is approximately $1.75 less than $35.37 * 2.
Yes, for two memberships (56 EUR) you'd double it. However, if you're not paying on paypal and just sending cash or something you could use a more accurate exchange rate such as that found on http://www.xe.com or some other currency exchange site.
All I will say is that if I do not time out, I have done nothing wrong. I have explained why I play slower than most - if you can't accept it, all I could do is say it again which obviously will not help.
As for using my Customer Service participation to bash my slow-playing, that's just low and a poor excuse for an argument. It has nothing to do with my game-playing habits. Some will prefer to play fast, some will prefer to play slow. Someone asking me to play faster doesn't force me to, just like someone asking for $1,000 doesn't force me to give it to them.
It's been said before, and I'll say it again - the time limit is the time required to make your moves it. It does NOT allow for extra "emergency time". If you want to play a 7-day per move game, be prepared to wait 7 days between each move. If you don't want to wait 7 days between each move, do not play 7-day move games. It's very simple.
You say some people pay "Real money" to play? And you think I don't? I have paid for 2 years of my own rook membership and a combined 4 1/2 year rook for others and 1 year knight for others. At the current rate, that's 188 Euros (about $232 US, according to the current exchange rate), although it'll be a little less because at least one of mine was $28 US before it was changed to Euros. I don't think anyone besides CaoZ can say they've paid that much "Real money" as you call it. And I'll remind you I only have a part-time job that probably pays 1/3 or less of what you get.
Why do you assume I have left these games to the last minute purposely? I have not. I had other commitments, and I knew the games would not time out while I was gone. And I guess I was right. If they would have timed out, I would have played them before. I'm sorry this site is not my #1 commitment.
School is hardly a commitment at all - I just have to go there for 6 hours a day. There was never a need to study, and very rarely had homework I had to do at home. That would be why I became involved in all of the extracurricular activities - to give me something to do.
You have the right to believe that I have to many games or am involved in too many things, but I'm the one who is in fact involved in them, so it is my choice and my problem. If I have too many games than I can play, I will time out giving my opponent the win. If I do not time out, I obviously do not have too many games than I can handle. The only times I have timed out were either a misjudgment as to how long I had to move (so I would do something more important), or a temporary loss of internet access. But you know what? I have survived those games timing out.
Also, it really does not take very long to play through my games. I never spend more than about 30 seconds per move, and probably average less than 10. That's less than 20 minutes to play through 100 games, assuming the site is responding well. If you are wondering why then I do not play them faster - I simply have more important things to do. This is what I would call a hobby or a pastime - I enjoy playing games here, and that is the only reason why I do it. It's people like you that worsen the experience here.
No, I sure do not worry that I am "biting off more than I can chew", and like I said - the number of games I have in progress obviously is not too much.
I apologize if I am moving too slowly for anyone, but I do not believe I am moving more slowly than usual. I am just not required at the time to ensure my games do not "time out", so I am not.
If you will notice, I have joined VERY few tournaments in the last several months (maybe 1?), excluding the ones I was invited to (which I will always join). If you want to remove my from tournaments I may happen to join, that's your choice - I will not be offended.
I have NEVER left a game to the last minute purposely - if I happen to move with minutes left, that is when I happened to get to it. If I have the time between the other events in my life, I will play until I have no games left - but I will remind you that until recently I was in school, and was quite involved in school and community activities, as well as working a part-time job. Sorry I can't make Brainking.com a full time job like you.
And LJ - if you believe insulting me will make me move faster, I'm sorry to tell you it will not. If you do not believe it will make me move faster, then I ask you: Why do you insult me? Do you believe that you are better than me because you are older than me?
Also, on a related note, you will noticed that every membership I have offered I have paid for - and more. Can you say that, LJ? Didn't think so.
Right - there is no need to add fellowship dbs to your favourite list because the new messages are now listed beside each fellowship in the fellowships list.
Yes, that is true. It will not force you to use both dice if you can possibly. If you have any idea about programming, you will know it is not simply telling it "If both dice can be used, both have to be used!". While I admit it is very possible (and will eventually be done) it is not number one on the priority list, and certainly will not be done before BK 2.0 is released. Until then, it's not that big of a deal. If you can use both dice, use them even though it doesn't make you. If your opponent does not use both dice even though they could have, let Fencer know and he will undo the move and let your opponent know that (s)he should use both dice.
Their listed in the order of "Go to next game" - sorted by your opponent's last move (the game in which your opponent moved the longest time ago will appear at the top).
It looks like you don't need a credit card to add funds to your moneybookers.com account either - i was looking through it and it gave you the option of a credit card or bank account...
I took uploading funds to mean adding funds to your account (so you could pay someone directly from your account rather than with a credit card or whatever)...
You're welcome Fencer! Just glad i can support this site... :-)
re: moneybookers.com
I had a brief look at it, and from what i saw it looked good - very small charge to pay (1% to a maximum of 0.50 EUR), and it said you don't need an account to pay someone. The only bad thing is it doesn't look like they support paypal :-( Oh well... :-)
I have sent the payment to Fencer for the winners yesterday (April 1st), but i will wait for it to go through to Fencer before i announce the winners... All i'll say is there was four one-year-rook memberships awarded out of eight entries (or i guess you could say 5 counting me - i won my competition with 763,706,971,412 words of length 56 - lol)
It only affects the two players, and both are rooks so it really shouldn't be a problem - if one of them does move really slow again these two players will just have one more game to play for a while :-)
I had planned to announce the winners today, but have encountered some unexpected difficulties with the dictionary.com. I will announce the winners as soon as I can. Sorry for the inconveniences.
The official entry deadline has passed, but i still must verify all of the current entries. So if you still want to enter, you should be fine if you send it in in the next few days. The winners will hopefully be announced on Monday (March 22) or possibly Sunday (March 21).
Just a reminder that you have until this Friday (March 19, 2004) to send in your entries for my membership competition. Details can be found Here. Good luck to everyone!
