题目: Re:Every financial advice show I see or hear will tell you, as an individual it is best to pay only in cash,
Czuch: Nope. That is not true. The truth is to be fully aware before you make any purchase based on credit. Not only taking note of the interest rates, but of the small print as well. This applies to all purchases on credit including houses.

2) know your rights. EG some stores over here will say that they need a receipt as proof of purchase before exchanging faulty equipment. But the law states differently, something I have used in the exchange of faulty goods many times and even made them get the manager down if they try to argue.

3) You are by rights allowed to cross out terms in a contract if you feel they are unfair before you sign, it might mean that the other side might not sign. But better that then signing a contract that is against your interests and lead to you ending up in dooo dooo at the end of the day.

If the lending is sensible then what is your problem with it? No more 100% mortgages, no more stupid rates of interest, and the banks to be responsible and not to blindly invest money in dodgy schemes.

The Usurper: Takes years to develop. I know some Americans wished that we were still over in your country teaching you how to run a government.

For example, your lobbyist system... never would be allowed over here. There was a big enough stink when one MP took money just to ask certain questions in Parliament.

anastasia: Our local service has just started with a new bus fleet. Leather seats hand stitched in Italy, very green engines.... and most stops have a computerised timetable display along with the old paper one. It tells you the time and the expected time of arrival of the buses due at that stop.

题目: Re: Corporations have all the same rights and responsibilities of an individual, economics 101
Czuch: Actually that is not true, corporations are also bound by rules that are specific to business. And in certain aspects have less rights than an individual, as they are bound by standards that an individual not running a business has no call to live by.

题目: Re: Some preliminary observations of your post....
Czuch: Actually the buses here a very good, comfy and regular. Our local service is every ten minutes, and most services in this area run at least 4 times an hour. The Buses have been built to cover the problems of wheelchairs and prams (the doorside can be lowered to the level of the kerb) and have easy access.. Certain supermarkets offer free delivery... you shop it, they pack it and deliver it.

The bus companies are private run for the most, some services in some towns are free, it depends on where and what the service is for. The councils subsidise certain routes, and run a door to door service for OAP's and the disabled.

Us British like them.

题目: Re: Some preliminary observations of your post....
The Usurper: We have a high level of public transport, including some very good deals on using buses over a long distance. I can buy a ticket that lasts all day and gives me unlimited travel in our local area. Or even for about £1.50 more buy a ticket that allows me to travel long distances and is recognised by many bus companies.

I use to do a 200 mile round trip in a day on the one ticket

Czuch: 55 cents.. Oh wow that is high..... NOT!!!</b>

Drivers over here pay road tax, to help maintain the highways they drive on, they pay a high duty on petrol rather then those who don't drive paying tax for them.

But on the other side, some of the problem seems to be the oil companies, who make extra ordinary profits and are slow to pass on savings re reductions in the cost of oil.

During the Northern Ireland troubles, British Intelligence were feeding secretly loyalists with info on the name and addresses of certain people they were worried about who were either active in the IRA or supporters..... They didn't live long after the info was passed on, and our Gov could deny anything to do with it.

题目: Re: Some preliminary observations of your post....
The Usurper: Yeah I remember the Witch killings thanks to King James here, all over misuse of certain scripture and really not looking at the contexts that said scripture were about.

"Thou shalt not suffer a witch to live" was about gold digging females that use their body to entrap a man into making them pregnant and making the man marry him out of duty rather then love. And being as a loveless marriage is against how a marriage is defined by God (A union of two souls) it is an abomination against the institute of marriage and God.

The other scripture that comes to mind is one about the misuse of 'spiritual', 'psychic' and natural 'magic' such as knowledge of herbs, etc. Such stuff is not to be used except for it's purpose to heal, which is recognised by healers and Wiccans alike. It is not to be used for self gain, and certainly not for some of this stuff we have today like "Most Haunted", psychic lines to find your true love, etc.

That is misuse and against the rules and regs and common sense of genuine gifted people. Not the 'money greedy ones'.

And don't forget the wonderful Reformation wars, which still (I believe) holds the record for deaths caused by it, some 40 million or so.... directly and indirectly from consequences like the break down of infrastructure and famine.

The Usurper: A modern example would be McCarthyism (sp) from the early period after WWII, where anyone with even the remotest connection to the communist party was persecuted. Bad hysteria based on all communism being bad.

...... Even though just a few years before, they were our brothers in arms against Hitler and we were supplying them with essential supplies through which many sailors died from U-boat attacks as we knew if Russia fell, Hitler would have only the west to concentrate on.

I still remember pictures of the two sides meeting when they'd over run Germany and Berlin and the joy and comradeship shown by all soldiers for their fellow soldier at the joy of defeating the Nazi menace.

The Usurper: Oh I remember.. Also books like Brave New World where people are grown not born. And that you are grown to be a certain class (Alpha, Beta, etc) you had no chance to improve yourself. You were as bred.

One book I remember had the USA government fake a UFO crash so accurately that it does as they want and takes the peoples minds of the countries mess. ... civil war being round the corner.

In Dune, the emperor used the Atreidies enemies to get rid of the Duke and to exterminate a threat to his own power. But if you've read it, you'll know that there was a small matter of the locals being rather..... numerous then thought. And through hardship and the nature of their world they were naturally defiant and a strong people.

That's what Governments fear, a strong people, people that think, being able to see through the 'political rant', see the signs of 'being lied to' or 'less then truthful'. We've had so many recent events in British politics where MP's have been shown up over various things like fraud, deception, etc.. that the people are starting to really question what an MP is allowed in terms of 'expenses', especially when it comes to what it is for. One MP got caught paying his son (who was at uni at the time) £200K+ in wages and said he worked in his office... But the uni was accross the country so it was impossible. The real insult was that he had only to pay back a small part of the fraud!!!

One day... we'll have enough, and the MP's better beware that day. We might have some music and a little fireworks display.

The Usurper: Almost like the script from "V for Vendetta", where the ultra conservative UK government creates a bio weapon to which they have a cure. But instead of using it on other countries they use it on the UK people in 3 places to create fear so that the 'high chancellor' gets the power and authority to do what he wants. Prosecution of anyone who disagrees or annoys him.. Gays, Muslims, any minority is picked on, vanished (via black bagging and taking away) .... Torture is fine, firing squads are fine.

Unfortunately America can't help as they are in the midst of a civil war.

Czuch: You read my post wrong. I said the opposite. I'm all for revolution if necessary if the government goes to far. Several have gone on in the past by popular movement because those at the top didn't give a damn, except about themselves.

Not entrust, empower. Give the people the ability back that has been diminished by those with personal agenda's or fears that misused the tribe instinct to fill their own void with the false pretence that they are right.

And FYI I'm for less government intrusion, certain matters fine. But excuses are being made here in the UK to introduce more, rather then facing the truth.

... Actually some politicians recognise the truth, but others like spending!!

We've lived with propaganda for so many years... telling us "them" or "it", when if the people had actually the chance from both sides to sit down with a few beers and talk maybe we would have an "we".

Anyways, it's usual for people to have a protest or two in the summer, or in certain cases all year round.. eg the major London airports wanting more runways.

.... One group bought a plot of land in the site of the one of the proposed and sold small squares over the internet. Truckers doing go slow convoys down motorways over fuel prices, millions descending on London to protest against GWII and it's legality.

Petitions are a favourite, sometimes national newspapers run some in cases of particular public interest and eye.

We tend to remind our government who they work for.

Ridge: We were wrong to torture

"America's first homeland security secretary has accepted some criticisms of the US "war on terror" made in a recent report by legal experts.

Tom Ridge told the BBC that the report's attacks on extended detention and torture were justified. "

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/americas/7903516.stm

"Mr Ridge, who was appointed to the new post of homeland security secretary after the 11 September, 2001 attacks on the US, said the ICJ was on "solid ground" in its commentary "with regard to torture and sustained detention without due process"."

... But no quick fixes will work. There is no magic wand here, but hard work and dedication to breaking a cycle that thankfully naturally is dying off on it's own, but we can just speed it up.
