I just searched "opera" on Youtube and the searchmachine came up with him. I had never heard of him before, but thought he has an extra-ordinairy talent!
What is the Theme today? I perhaps will post a recording from when I had the honor worshiping God with a band when the theme of the Sunday was 'Israel'.. It's not opera though so, don't want to ruin the theme..
TexasToest: It works now because I had already fixed the link. Basically a return got put into the link - probable because it was longer then the box... which I don't think you did it, but the editor and/or system probable put it in there which messed it up - happens often.
BOY!! Y'ALL STARTED BLUEGRASS NIGHT BEFORE I GOT UP! HAHAHA. I'M HAPPY TO SEE THE ENTHUSIASM ABOUT A GENRE SO WOVEN INTO THE FABRIC OF THIS COUNTRY AND NOW THE WORLD.
SEAWOLF2: RE "FIREBBALL MAIL" || WHAT A GREAT VIDEO. IT'S LIKE A WINDOW IN TIME. I JUST LOVE THE COMBINATION OF INSTRUMENTS - SO TYPICAL BLUEGRASS. GOOD CHOICE! AND ERNEST TUBB TOO? LOOKED LIKE A TAKE OUT OF HEEHAW. INTERESTING HOW SETS AND COSTUMES WERE SO CONTRIVED. MARVELOUS. CARTER SISTERS - WHAT A FAMILY - ALL SO TALENTED. FLATT & SCRUGGS - YEAH, I THINK THEY WERE COMEDIANS TOO. AND WHAT A PART THEY PLAYED IN THE BLUEGRASS SCENE! "PEARL" - WHAT A PEARL. (DROPS REFERENCE TO BEVERLY HILLBILLIES IN THE RECYCLE BIN) "ORANGE BLOSSOM SPECIAL" WITH CHET - ON THE MERV GRIFFIN SHOW? "ORANGE BLOSSOM SPECIAL" IS YET ANOTHER STELLAR EXAMPLE OF THE BLUEGRASS GENRE. HOOOOOOOOWWWWWWWWWWDEEEEEEEE - I KNOW. I CAN STILL SEE THE PRICE TAG HANGING OFF HER HAT, AND THE GINGHAM DRESSES WITH LACE. WHAT A VISION. JUST ANOTHER HINT - SINCE I KNOW, AND SEAWOLF2 KNEW I WOULD.
THANK YOU, SEAWOLF2. I SEE THE BLUEGRASS STYLE OF MUSIC DIDN'T MISS YOU, AND THAT MAKES ME HAPPY. HAVE A GREAT DAY!!
*SIGH* I DIDN'T TOUCH THAT LINK DURING MY EDIT, AND I DON'T KNOW WHY YOU WERE GETTING POPUPS. WHEN I CLICK ON IT, I GO STRAIGHT ONTO THE SITE. I COMPARED THE URL WITH THE ONE YOU PUT IN THE BOX, AND THEY ARE IDENTICAL. DUNNO. TRY AGAIN AND SEE IF IT WORKS AFTER A REFRESH.
NIRVANA: RE ROBBIN GIBB || TALK ABOUT A BLAST FROM THE PAST. PAVAROTTI - YOU'RE SPOT ON. WONDER WHAT HE WOULD HAVE DONE IF HE'D LIVED ANOTHER 100 YEARS?

OVER THE LAST COUPLE OF YEARS IT HAS BEEN NICE TO SEE CLASSICAL MUSIC AND OPERA MADE A LITTLE LESS ELITEIST AND MORE WIDELY LISTENED TO BY PEOPLE MORE GENERALLY. PAVAROTTI HAD A LOT TO DO WITH THAT HAPPENING.
OKAY FRIENDS.... THE SENILE OLD WOLF IS GOING TO TRY POSTING A VIDEO LINK AGAIN! I WON'T USE THE EMBED LINK THIS TIME AS I DO NOT SEEM TO HAVE THE HANG OF IT.....
WITHOUT FURTHER ADIEU.... HERE IS A GREAT CLIP OF "FIREBALL MAIL". AND I HAVE TO SAY, I TRULY ENJOYED THE PORTION WITH THE DOBRO ON THIS CLIP TOO!!
THEME NIGHTS SOUND LIKE SOME FUN.... AND I AM SURE IT WILL OPEN UP A LOT OF NEW DOORS FOR US ALL TOO!! YES, BILL MONROE IS THE GRAND-DADDY OF BLUEGRASS FOR SURE. Radiant2007 :-): I JUST SAW THE NEW PAUL POTTS ALBUM OUT AT BORDER'S RECENTLY... SO SNAP IT UP WHILE IT'S STILL ON SALE FOLKS!!
I'M SURE THIS BRITISH BLOKE IS GOING TO CHANGE THE COURSE OF HIS LIFE WITH THE RELEASE OF THIS NEW ALBUM! HE CERTAINLY DOES SEEM TO BE ABLE TO DRAW OUT THE EMOTION FROM HIS AUDIENCE, DOESN'T HE???!
NICE POST!! ALWAYS GOOD TO SEE SOME OTHER OPERA AND CLASSICAL MUSIC FANS ON THE BOARDS!!
Radiant2007 :-): We certainly have diverse tastes here among very few contributors. Everyone is to be commended for their understanding of music, and it's roots, and their tolerance of each other. Hahahaha!
Foxy Lady: I love classical music, and I love opera, if I can have a bit of the story ahead of time. I have a book of hundreds of descriptions of operas I use before I go. We may be the only ones here that night, but we'll have fun anyway. I'll bring fruit and cheese.
Jim the Dandiest brought this idea to me, and after considering it for more than two hours, I think it's a great idea. (Will someone please wrap JD's head so it won't get too big to get through the door? )
The idea is for us to have theme nights. He suggested Bluegrass Tuesday, and in his honor, that's what it will be. So, why don't we all shop around YouTube for some bluegrass tunes we would like to share, and put them up on Tuesday for everybody to listen to.
To kick things off, I found this little video of John Hartford on the banjer (as some of us southerners call the banjo) and Johnny Cash on the guitar on the stage of the Grand Ole Opry. Hartford explains a little of the history of the banjo, and they play a tribute to Bill Monroe. Kick back, put up your feet, and tap your fingers along with this clip.
In addition to what Hartford said, my remembrance of the history of the banjo is that it was originallly used as a percussion instrument. It was Earl Scruggs who first played music on it. More than that, you will learn here.
So, without further ado, please enjoy the blue grass of Bill Monroe performed by John Hartford and Johnny Cash.
Jim Dandy: You know how I feel about the Dead, anything is fine, they could have done laundry soap commercials, and I'd have just sat back, listened and been happy. I was reminded, though, while watching that of why I quit performing in clubs - the audiences are so rude, they talk right over you. Stella Blue is a very tender song, and we had to have the "wooooos" louder than what was going on on stage. Thanks though, for reminding me of such a beautiful song.
Uncle Ed. You came out of left field on that one. It was a nice song for Sunday night. I wonder if that was not for our Mousetrap.
Jim Dandy: Black Crowes. I made a note one day a few years ago, that I liked the Black Crowes. Some life thing must have happened, and I forgot about it. Thanks for reminding me.
