GGROBINLOVE: WELCOME TO THE MUSIC DISCUSSION BOARD. PLEASE JOIN IN THE FUN, AND MAKE YOURSELF AT HOME. GOOD TO SEE YOU HERE. MAYBE YOU WILL MAKE SOUP FOR OUR SUPPER PARTIES.
NIRVANA: THANKS FOR THAT VIDEO OF THE MAKING OF THE MAKING OF BLACK PARADE. I'M REALLY LOOKING FORWARD TO THE REST OF THE CD NOW.
That is some seriously good music JD. The lyrics posit hope, with despair. There were tears behind my eyes on the second hearing, that I then knew were there on the first. Gerard Way has a fanTASTic voice. It almost feels endless, like he could go forever and never reach the wall. Well chosen, thanks for sharing that. I plan to buy the CD, because the whole album is a story, according to Wikipedia, and I intend to feel the whole thing. The band cites Queen as a strong influence on the album, as well as Pink Floyd's The Wall. I can hear that. But, they have struck their own vein. Here's hoping they continue to mine it.
You know, sometimes new music feels like just so much noise, or venom. This was neither.
题目: Re: Let it never be said that GWAR has never been featured here
MOUSETRAP: MICHAEL CRAWFORD'S VOICE IS JUST SPELL-BINDING. i SAT HERE ENTHRALLED THROUGH THAT WHOLE VIDEO....AFTER I FIGURED OUT THE POOR WOMAN DIDN'T HAVE A BIG OLE ZIT ON HER FACE. MY MOUSE WAS WATCHING TOO THROUGH THE CURSOR. HAHAHA!
SEAWOLF2: SOON THERE WILL BE OTHER WAYS OF GETTING TO THE INTERNET. DON'T GIVE UP TOO SOON. PLUS, YOU CAN GO TO THE PUBLIC LIBRARY, AND USE COMPUTERS THERE. BUT, I DON'T KNOW IF THEY WILL LET YOU STREAM MUSIC IN THE LIBRARY. AS FAR AS TV IS CONCERNED, I ALSO RESENT WHAT IS HAPPENING IN THAT INDUSTRY. I HAD SATELLITE FOR 4 YEARS, BUT I CUT IT OFF NOT TOO LONG AGO. I DON'T MISS IT AT ALL. YOU FIND MORE USEFUL THINGS TO DO WITH YOUR TIME, LIKE PRACTICE YOUR OWN TALENTS.
JIM THE DANDIEST: I'M LOVING ALL THIS PHANTOM STUFF. THAT CLIP GAVE ME CHILLS. AND, LOVELY PIECE, AMAZING GRACE. SHE HAS A HAUNTING VOICE, VERY FLEXIBLE. THERE'S SOMETHING STRANGELY SPIRITUAL ABOUT THE AURORA BOREALIS. i'VE NEVER SEEN IT, AND I MUST BEFORE I DIE. *ADDS IT TO HER ITINERARY*
NIRVANA: THANKS FOR POSTING THE JOSEPH BRUCHAC VIDEO. HE HAS A LOT OF CHARISMA. I WOULD LOVE TO EXPERIENCE HIM FACE TO FACE SOME TIME, AND WILL BE LOOKING FOR AN OPPORTUNITY TO DO THAT.
I WONDER IF ALL THE ABUSE STORIES ABOUT KENNY ROGERS ARE TRUE. I FEAR THEY ARE, AND IT RUINED HIM FOR ME. HE HAS A GREAT VOICE, THOUGH. IT'S JUST THAT HE DOESN'T USE IT TO ITS BEST ADVANTAGE.
EVERYBODY: GREAT STUFF TONIGHT. I WAS WORKING FOR 12 HOURS TODAY, AND WHEN I SAW 30 NEW MESSAGES, I ABOUT FAINTED. WHAT A PLEASANT SURPRISE, ALL THE NEW THINGS PUT OUT FOR THE PLEASURE OF OUR COMMUNITY. Y'ALL ARE THE BEST!!! AND THANKS FOR JOINING US THIS DAY, SEAWOLF. WE HOPE YOU STICK AROUND, YOU SEEM TO HAVE A LOT TO OFFER.
Rock 'n Roll was born today in 1954, if you don't count all the blues, and gospel, and soul that came before as its base. Elvis Presley recorded "That's All Right (Mama) * and "Blue Moon Of Kentucky " at Sun Studios in Memphis TN. The record was released on July 19th, 1954.
And, Robbie Robertson of The Band fame is 64 today. Think he'll retire? I doubt it...I hope not! His Ghost Dance is posted for my Native American friend.
题目: Re: An Intro but brilliantly done as a music video...
Jules: Outstanding - thank you for posting. Please note I have modified your post. The only modification I have made is adding a + sign at the bottom corner of the message box.
Jim Dandy: Outrageous! I love it. The School's Out was shocking to me at first, but I got over it.
Awwww awesome, you love it. Rock 'n Roll is where the creativity is. Jerry Lee, I had to two-step up and down the hall on that one. He's definitely my contemporary. He used to play on Saturday nights in the country outside the town where I was born.
So tell me, JD, you still go see the moving pictures packing your rain gear? I love Rocky Horror Picture Show. Now, you have me thinking about renting it. Or, maybe even buying it. Not long ago, I saw an interview with Meatloaf. He's a changed man, he even got serious about life. I didn't know that he was a serious, and very talented, actor, and that was his passion. How about a little Hot Patootie?
题目: Re: Sometimes its not the music - but whats being sung that is important
redfrog: That's music. Thanks for reminding us.
Jim Dandy: I kept looking for your horns, but I was distracted. All I can say is....great legs!
Mousetrap: Yes, that's what I've done most of my career, advise, account for, and prepare federal income taxes for individuals, corporations, trusts, non-profits.....you name it.
Eriisa: Yeah, that's kinda what I was saying, except when you have studio equipment, everything is clearer. When you have a 4 piece band in the living room, you can hear lots of stuff, but not a lot of detail. I can assure you this man had never heard any music from the Beatles' Revolver at that point in time, if ever. This was back in 1966, and it had just been released that summer (3 days before my birthday.....is that why I've made my career in taxation? - it's the BEATLES' fault, [exp] them).
Jim Dandy: You have to admit the accoustics aren't the best in the living room of a suburban tract home. You couldn't hear anything clearly but the instruments. Plus, there is something to be said about the sensitivity of the person who is insecure about his weight anyway, and his lack of familiarity with the "music of the day".
Jim Dandy: Well, I didn't know if it would be forthcoming, but I should have known you wouldn't leave me out on the cold. Hahaha! AND, I have a story about that song......
Back in the dark ages, my brother played lead in a band. They were practicing in our living room one afternoon, and a guy who worked for our dad came over for some reason. The guys were practicing that song, Taxman.
Well, this guy was rather obese, and he had evidently never heard the song before. He thought they were singing Fatman, and got all puffed up about it. I honestly don't know if he ever got straight with that. When he left suddenly the way he did, it never occurred to us until my mom told us.
Nivabef: Thanks for the link to Antigone Rising. I'm maybe behind the times, but I'd never heard them before.
That was interesting, JD. Was he barefoot? I have a friend, she turns 51 Sunday, who until last year played lead guitar in an all-mom grunge band. I learned to accept it after following her around some. It is a totally different style from what I usually listen to too, Riissy. I have a CD of theirs, I should get one for you. The songs are great, one of them being, "Pick Up Your Socks." Typical mom issues in a totally different package.
Nirvana: Great stuff!!! Especially Dire Straits, and Fleetwood Mac. I recently caught a concert with Fleetwood Mac, all of them gray of hair (Stevie's was blonde, but as she says, "women usually are"), and still rocking and rolling. There is a DVD out, and right now I can't remember the name of it, but what a trip! I have some of the music from that show on my machine. I have since gone out to pick up that concert. It's Live in Boston. And, here's a cut from it....
And, Knoffler. How young he was. I don't think anyone on that stage was straining to put out soooooooooo much sound. Thanks for doing that for us.
Jim Dandy: That was a walk down memory lane. And, you are right about music music being a language in it's own rite. Perfect example of how it can transcend cultural differences as well.
Oceans Apart: Boy! It took me a while too!! That is absolutely brilliant, and amazing. Hahaha! Thanks Oceans Apart. That was a great thing to come home to on a Friday night.
Jim Dandy: I don't know either. They had a LOT of talent. Maybe it was as simple as marketing. We didn't understand back then you couldn't just be good, you had to have a publicist, or spend a lot of your time doing that. They had the sound alright.
Mousetrap: I didn't know who George Michael was, so I went out and watched all I could stand. I didn't see anything worth £75. That's my opinion only, of course. I'd also be interested in what others say. Keep in mind, USers, £75 converts to a little over $148 today. Whew! I don't think I'd pay that to see any mainstream show.
ScarletRose: You have to click on Switch to plain text editor and then paste the embedding code. You can then type in the plain text editor, or save the box, then change back over to the rich text editor and type any explanation you want.
Yeah, Eriisa, I'm having that problem. I just let it run out a bit, then drag the indicator (whatever it's called) all the way back to the left. It takes it a while to catch up, and I have a flawless performance.
Great stuff everybody. Thanks for the Peart stuff. He is totally phenomenal. I have one question, Where's the sweat?
Tigger: Whew! Can you imagine? My fingers just don't move that fast! Re: Canon....who is under that hat? I think I want to marry him. If it's not a him, I might change my thinking on a few things. Whew! Excellent. Andy McKee - what an interesting style. Really nice sound, though. I wonder how he tunes his guitar. I figure it's an open tuning. Very nice. You've been busy today.
I just love everybody sharing their favorite videos. I'm hearing/seeing more new stuff than I even knew was out there. This will broaden horizons. Jason: Who IS that? Tell us something about it....or me anyway. I may be the only ignorant one here. That is wild! Haha!
Andersp: I love accordian music. I've done a little piece on Flaco Jimenez, who plays the squeeze box with a lot of Texas rock musicians. The accordian is prominent in the music of Mexico, and I live down here where a lot of Latinos are playing their tunes. Our music scene down here is often a melding of styles. Thanks for the post. Mousetrap: Oh! I must be about your dad's age. I love Kate Bush too!!!! And, that's one of my favorite songs of hers. She was once married to Peter Gabriel, wasn't she?
Lisa A: Thank you so much for the Satriani piece. I haven't heard anything of him in a loooooooong time. It's all my own fault too. Think I'll get out and buy some of his stuff. Jim Dandy: I gave instructions for embedding over the weekend. Did you miss them? Would you like private lessons? I totally agree with your wish that we continue to discuss music, new and old, of whatever genre and media. That is the great benefit of this board to me. You'll note that I always comment, and offer what I can. Maybe if we set an example, others will follow suit.
Tigger again: Spot on! Satriani is absolutely amazing.
jadarite: I'm going to duck this one, and refer you to BrainKing.com where your arguments might fall on eyes who can do something about your complaints. This board is for music related chat only. Thanks for helping us keep it that way.
jadarite: Isn't that always the way? The people who are supposed to read the legalese don't know the words and they certainly don't understand the intricacies. Shame on YouTube. That ought to be on page one in words kids under 13 can understand. Question: Are you under age 13? Yes? Then, go get your mom or pop, and let them decide if you can be here.
Sorry, the embedding privilege is only available to Rooks, I believe. You can ask one of us to go get the code, and embed it for you if you'd like. Um, yeah. What Eriisa said.
Tigger: Isn't Emmanuel wonderful? It's obvious he gets a huge kick out of playing that geetar. Actually, did you bring him to us earlier, like a couple of weeks ago? Cuz, after I watched that first video, I looked at a few more, and the Classical Gas was one of them. Love the way he plays the short strings, don't you? Hahahaha! He's great anytime. I wonder what kind of strings he uses. They are really bright. Tell us more about Israel Kamakawiwo'ole. I believe I HAD heard his voice before, but didn't know what I was listening to.
Jim Dandy: Very interesting. I'd never seen a set-up like that. Isn't Tom Rush an inspiration? He's so wonderful. An unsung hero in most circles. How well I remember that day in MY life.
Great stuff, everybody. Thanks for the welcome home from a hard, long day at work. Music always makes me feel better, and it's always better when shared.
Andersp: Of course, the Globs frequent this board. But, we are, so far, self-policing. We have added 2 moderators so that we have better coverage. I am looking to add a couple more in different time zones to increase our chances of catching offensive videos. There are a lot of good people who come here to post. I honestly do not expect a problem.
Please, however, feel free to message me, or any of the other moderators if you see something that offends you.
Yeah, Jim the Dandiest, I figgered it out! Now to figure out how to make text act normal in the regular text editor.
For all those who want to know how to embed YouTube videos here:
Change to the plain text editor. Go out to YouTube, or any other site that offers embed code, On YouTube, it is just below the URL box. Click on the embed code (starts with <object width....) Right click and copy, or use CTRL-C Come to the Music Board (it only works here, in Notepad, and personal profiles) Right click and paste or use CTRL-V to get the code in the text box. Click on send, and voila!! The video has been populated on the Music Board.
Derek Trucks is probably my favorite guitarist right now. He has been playing guitar since he was 9, and has played guest spots with the Allman Brothers Band since he was a little tyke. He's been seen with Eric Clapton as well. His uncle is Butch Trucks, famed drummer with the Allman Brothers Band. Derek Trucks now plays officially with the Allman Brothers Band, and he has his own Derek Trucks Band. This is his own band.
One thing I REALLY love about him is he plays barefoot. Barefoot is what us 60s hippies call people who play without a pick. Please enjoy Derek Trucks:
Jim Dandy: Tom DOES look evil, and we would have never known it if that video hadn't been posted. Mousetrap: Thank you. Remember me stopped me in my tracks. Gorgeous voice on that man.
