So what's become of gamedriven now?

I think people are smart enough to choose a game site themselves, they don't need to be "driven in". And it's not nice to turn another site problems to own profit, I would say.

So the more I read and wait - the more I think gamedriven is gone

There as a lot of cool things about gamedriven - but (1) bad owner, and (2) the limits they kept I believe kept away many people.

"Snoopy": As I understand it, he went broke and closed it down. I did hear rumors that it would start up again in Nov with new owners but I don't know if that's true or not.

Coan, they did have several colonies start and you could play at any of them.. so essentially, you could not play all the games. My favorite was loose Gold Card. I never saw that anywhere else.

I'm glad I didn't pay for more than annual.

The only other site that comes close to being as good as Brainking is Goldtoken.. to me, anyways.

rod03801: Well it had some cool ideas - players would join a colony - limit to the number in each colony - and in there, you could buy houses and stuff for the house with fake money you earn playing games and such.

But after that, things go south. First, they had like 20 games on th site, but a colony could only have access to like 10 games at a time - and the players of the colony had to vote for which games. (me, if I'm playing - I want access to all the games).

Of course this information is from when they first opened, not sure what they had done since.

Games - they had some of the regular - plus some unique ones like a card-poker game which was pretty fun - basically it was a single player game, but made into a 2-player game where each play their own game - highest score wins. Um... I think their battleboat game was interesting - with different boats/tanks & different backgrounds. Um.... plus some of the "regular" games like chess and such.. can't remember.

Had some cool ideas, but I think the owners idea was to have a community site that just happened to have a few games - and did not want a "game site" so could care less about concerns - like mine about wanting to play all the games not just a limited selection. In my opinion, if they focused on both - they would have gained a lot of turn based game players.... well that and if the owner wasn't such a .......... well, you can fill in the blank.

coan.net: What kinds of games were there? What was the whole "colony" and "homes" concept?

coan.net: That site owner is a nut job anyway. Some people shouldn't be allowed to own pay to play sites especially people like that site owner. He was on one serious power trip when we all played there. If you didnt kiss his butt he kicked you out!!

As many of you know, I stopped visiting Game Driven site awhile back ( http://coan.net/gd.html ), but I got an e-mail today from someone telling them they closed the game site down (of course after they accepted his $200 lifetime membership - which means the lifetime of the site, not his lifetime)

Anyway, like I said - I don't visit the site, I tried a few minutes ago and it did not work - so I was wondering if it is correct that the site is closed, or are they just closed for repairs or some other temporary reason.

We are currently attempting to install new hardware. However, because of the weekend, we are currently physically unable to reach our servers. As a result, we do not have a target time for completing the install.

jessica: I gave up my membership there because I did not like the limit of 100 games. (yea, it was 200 - but only 100 tournament & 100 regular games - and since I play 99% tournament games, I felt cheated out of 1/2 my games)

... so I only play a few games there now and don't plan on getting a membership again. Dark Crazy Screen Chess is fun when there is enough to start a tournament there.

i agree. there are children who go to that site and if thier parents knew what was being written on those boards wouldn't allow the children to sign up in the first place.
i hardly go there anymore because of the language on the boards and the fact that i only get 15 moves per day compared to unlimited moves here.

coan.net: I agree.The tone of some of those boards has turned off the people with anything interesting to say anyway,no great loss.Expect a stampede to this site,but the culture shock of having to display new level of maturity and respect may be daunting for many of them.

ScarletRose: Those message boards have driven some people from his site - I think it is a smart move... I have a few games still on that site, but haven't visited the message boards there for well over a year now.

Although not really a game site  facebook.com is a really cool site. There are many small game applications you can add to your profile. You can network and connect with friends. I have found or been found by 10 friends from school. I havent seen or heard from these ppl in over 20 years so it is really great to talk again.

ScorpionOct64: MSN games has a few card games. Real time, of course, not turn based. I particularly like Hearts there. There aren't that many multi player card games there, though. But if you like live Hearts, I recommend that.

no u gotta start at the casino.. u need to be in a while before u can go to medical.. start doing very small crimes.. then in a month try harder ones.. u get money from your job.. can make money gambling and what not.. u steal stuff an get money for it when u sell it.. u can rob ppl but not as a newbie.. as u level up you can make more an more money..

TORN CITY is a really cool role play game. No flash or java script really. Just like here, kinda like turn based.
It is all about crime and making money. Get out your aggression doing pretend crime!

Would anyone know if webtv or MSN2 works at this site? If so can they play all of the games or only some of them? A friend who uses webtv tried to register there and they could not register?

Mousetrap: it's a kewl concept.. but, it is very clickish.. they won't have as many on their site.. due to that.. it was nicely designed.. but, for someone to panic out of heresay is the most obnoxious thing one can do.

I did,nt really care for Game Driven, I felt the owner liked to chose who he wanted to play there for some reason. I did like the Battleboats design there and played there as a non member just after it first opened. Then one day I got a message from the owner asking why I was not using points or something to purchase a house and I replied I was not interested in purchasing a house I just like some of the games there. Anyway not long after the site went private and when I tried to sign in to finish my games off my account had been closed. No warning or anything which I though was rather strange but I am not bothered as I much prefer Brainking lol!
Now I believe they have a bubble thing where you can post pics and stuff. A friend who plays there sent me a link to hers and it does look good but I still do not want to rejoin.
