im guessing im not the only one the games wont load for, judging by the other posts. actually, none of the bk pages are loading completely right now. the pictures arent loading. i can only see wetware's avatar, none of the other pictures EDIT: except for smileys
i think that the BK pages are a little bigger than some others, and consequently take longer to load. all the links, the pictures, and javascript all add to the load time. brainking has a lot of these kinds of things
this is on the first page of defining a new game, at the top it says
"Use this form to create a new game with non-specified opponent name. The game invitation will be posted to "Waiting Games" area where can be picked by any player."
it should say
"Use this form to create a new game with non-specified opponent name. The game invitation will be posted to "Waiting Games" area where it can be picked by any player."
alanback: of course because of the sheer number of dice rolls being generated every day, there will be a large amount of good or bad rolls. you are exactly right. i bet that if you could somehow look at all of the rolls on this site in a day, you would probably see each of the 6 numbers represented fairly evenly.
this reminds me of when i used to regularly scan the forums of a poker site i play at. inevitably ehrte was always someone complaining about the large number of bad beats. what they didnt always realize was that that site does hunderds of thousands of hands on a slow day, and that a certain percentage of bad beats will happen. a 1% chance over 1 million hands is 10,000.
Tigger & everyone else: to be a good dice poker player, it seems that you need to know what to do with the rolls you get, that you know what to do with the bad rolls and wait for the good ones to come. Backgammon seems to rely more on what the roll is, but if you dont know how best to use the two dice values you will still be a lousy player.
on a side note: people tend to forget that the probability of an event occurring is not reliant on the previous event. that means that just because someone got (in backgammon) double 6's on their last roll doesn't mean that they have any less of a chance to get double 6's next time. the probability of getting double 6's on any given roll is always exactly 1/36. the same concept applies to all dice rolls.
trohat: it always used to show smilies for me, but when i got my membership (thanks madmonkey!) it showed them about half the time. i checked the settings and found that show smilies wasn't selected. i dont know if it was selected or not before i got the membership
AbigailII: i hadnt thought of it that way :) maybe the previous moves column could show what had been played. the computer could remember instead of the person. that might raise other problems though....
the point is, why did they merit a whole blog entry? thats a rhetorical question. (don't answer it). im sure that there is something more relevant to brainking to talk about.
Eriisa: i guess that makes sense. like it checks for timed out games every 5 or 10 minutes, and ends them if it finds them. the game ended at -5 minutes
why does robtoo need 230 invitations for unrated anti checkers?
it looks like most of the bandwidth represented by those 5000 games is currently being wasted by robtoo. i guess he, like anyone else, has a right to post invitations to games, but isnt 200 a little much?
tippyc: in that i cant seem to find an edit post button, ill add this here: i would like to clarify that i like playing short games (such as dice poker) with a .1/0/.1 clock
i like to play short .1/0/.1 games, but i dont want any invitations that i send to remain open when im not online to play them. the only way to do that (and i might be missing something) is to delete them. however, creating new invitations when i log on again is tedious and feels like a waste of time, especially if my invitation is not accepted.
is there a way to do this? if not, has anyone else ever had this thought?
(maybe this could be considered for a future update...)
