It must be a bug, one of the players can not have had a 1800+ rating lately, he won much more games then he lost. I don't think i have to ASK the tournament creator to remove such a player. When creating a 1800+ tourney the creator has to do that automaticly or announce it as a open tournament. I also think that unrated players never can join a 1800+ tournament because they don't have a 1800+ BKR!
OK, the new tournament is not actually for dummies - just people who may not be good at certain games.
ALSO are there games on this site you have never tried? Like Tablut or Tank Battle? Well here is a perfect chance to try them because I allow unrated players to join also! (and long as the unrated player is not too good).
Pawns & Knights only need 4 free spaces for each tournament. Tournament to start at the end of July.
Better system will be implemented in the future.
Meanwhile, if it is absolutely clear that the pawn won't advance to the second round and his section is not finished yet, he can contact me and I will mark him as "eliminated" of the tournament, so he'll be able so sign up for another one.
As it is currently set up, the pawn can NOT join a new tournament until the SECTION they are in is complete. (So if there are many sections, you just have to wait until the one you are in is complete - and you are not the winner)
And in case you are the winner, you will have to wait until the next rounds starts and then completes before you can join a new tournament.
If a BrainPawn is in a running tournament, has finished all their games in their section, and statistically cannot advance to the next round, can they join a new tournament or must they wait for the tournament to finish despite the fact they can no longer play?
BBW-
I just looked and I think they are actually talking about 1800+ Backgammon tourney Number 10 (1 game each)
created by, um I can't remember this minute by who. Which was 'closed' for signup only 2 days ago but hasn't been started yet. There are indeed 2 players rated under 1800. But either of the scenarios you described could certainly have happened. Though, I also recall a bug in relation to this sort of thing being talked about not too long ago. Maybe this tourney was also created during that time? Don't know if that would make a difference. :-)
If unrated players are allowed to enter, they may have entered as unrated then got a low rating after signing up.
Or they signed up when the had a rating over 1800, then quickly lost a few games sending their rating down quickly.
WHAT I would do is contact the tournament creator because they can actually kick people out of the tournament, and may want to if they want to keep the "lower rated" players out - then again, the tournament creator might not care. :-)
when i try to sign up for a tournament for players rated over 1800 i have got the message that the max. number of players has signed for this tournament. But....... 2 of the players are rated between 1500 and 1600! Is this a bug in the system?
I just wanted to post a reminder that in about 2 days, the ALL Checkers for dummies Tournament will start.
This tournament is for people rated 1500 or below (and unrated players - as long as you are not a very good player).
If you don't know how to play some of the Checker games, this is the perfect time to learn - while others are learning so you won't get beat in 2 moves! :-)
Side Note: Once the tournament starts, I will remove any player who happens to be over 1500 to keep it fair for everyone. (Since some unrated players signed up, then won 4 games and got a high rating.)
I will start the second round ASAP. Zetes is probably on vacation or something.
Next time, you can immediately send a request directly to me, of course.
bumble: The tournament as you say is still going lol - Is what i guess is what has happened is when a round is completed (as both sections are) the person who set the tournament gets a message to create the next round and start it, all i can think is maybe zetes has deleted it or not seen it, maybe Fencer can access it ??
Also, if a knight is still in that tournament, they can not enter another of the same until that has ended (unless Fencer has chnaged that recently)
The 'ZETES April open slowly tournament (backgammon)' is still running. The winners of both sections are still waiting to play each other. All section games were completed weeks ago.
Both parties (loggerhead and NOT a floosie) have sent messages to zetes but have had no response, although here language could well be a barrier.
What would be the next step?
Also, as this tournament is still 'live' are any brain knights that were involved able to participate in any other backgammon tournament, or do they have to await the outcome of this one?
Let me recommend a great checker discussion fellowship Club2000. We play no games but analyze checker games, strategies and check out websites. We are affiliated with no club so all levels and players are welcome to come and chat or just watch.
Glad to help! As I write this right now, there are 6 Chess variants that do not have enough players... so hopefully (HINT HINT) some more people will go try some Chess games that they normally would not play - I know for myself, I don't play much chess - but you never know if a variant version of Chess would be something you like or not without trying it first - And what better place to try it then at THIS TOURNAMENT ..... yes, I know - another shamless plug. :-)
Chess and variants for dummies :)(under 1500 BKR) - This is a tournament created by kitti which I just love this idea - it will let me play many different chess games that I have not tried before (without being "killed" by good players in the other tournaments - BUT there are many games still with under 4 players, so I'll do a little more advertisment for kitti and let people know if they want to try new or different games, GO SIGN UP! (games start in about a day)
---------------------------------
I've actually liked the idea so much, I've created ALL Checkers for dummies (under 1500 + unrated) - Which like the Chess tournament created by kitti, it is a great way for me to at least play a few Checker games and try them out..... without being killed by the good players! (games start in about 2 weeks)
I tend to agree, at least as to the notorious nature of Mr. Trice. In my view, it is difficult to demonstrate that he didn't simply steal the idea of Grand Chess (created in 1984 by a Dutch inventor) and apply it to a smaller board with new names for the special pieces. He might swear he never heard of Grand Chess, but it still looks suspicious.
His patents are not impressive. Patent examiners routinely overlook material in the public domain, especially if it is not in their files, or otherwise within easy reach without too much research. And with enough attempts, a slick lawyer can almost always find a way to secure a grant.
He says he is fronting the prize money for the tournament, and since I am not an entrant, I don't really care if he makes good on it or not. I suspect his angle is to gain financially by trying to peddle a lot more of his manufactured sets to the participants.
Ed Trice is a con-artist extraordinaire. He wants to appear generous but he'll figure out a way to pocket the prize money while blaming the inferior idiots of BK for being stupid enough to join his tournament. We're far better off simply donating $50 to Fencer's fine, up-&-coming website. Which I will do at first opportunity and recommend highly to others. :)
Do you have a time table when you will have the private tournament up and running?
The reason is we are getting a new tournament ready on the 65thsquare and would like to use the server here to run it.
Fencer, everyone is a beginner because its a new game, but IMHO you stand as good a chance as anyone of winning. You're great at chess, and have only lost one game of Gothic in the prize tournament. Go for it!
And great news on the private tournaments :o)
Ed: I am currently developing "private tournaments" - the tournament creator can invite specific players to sign up and nobody else can participate. This could solve your problem - you will allow only people who paid $50 to you to sign up for the World Championship. What do you think?
Btw, I will also not play in this tournament because I have no chance to win it. I am still a beginner in this game :-)
Management feels that non-paying members have really many advantages [compared to other game sites] and does not want to give them anything else for free. Please don't forget that this horde of pawns create a significant CPU load of our machines and giving them more privileges would only increase this load.
There is more about it on http://BrainKing.info tech page.
Fellowships can only be joined by paying members, if you offer a tournament sponsered through a fellow ship, then players will have to not only pay the $50.00 entrance fee but also buy membership here.
In my humble opinion, the fellowship is for paying members. If a person starts a fellowship, they should be able to invite anyone including pawns. I am not sure how management feels here, but if a person pays for the membership one of the perks is being able to establish fellowships. What good is a fellowship if the a person can not invite those he wants to join?
I can understand a limit on pawns to not join any fellowship, but if they are invited by a paying member then the system should allow it. Just a thought.
Una
This pertains to the talk of being able to audit a list of participants in a tournament.
I want to offer a $3000 first prize tournament for the World Championship this year, and I want to play it online. But, I will require an entrance fee of $50 per participant.
I never thought of creating my own Fellowship then inviting only those who have paid, but that is a good idea if it would be too much trouble to implement otherwise.
Winner also gets a nice cup trophy (a great big one) and the title of World Champion of Gothic Chess.
The idea is a good one BBW. Who ever creates a tournament, could send out seperate invites, if they decline then fair anough, im sure there would still be enough to take part.
There is still the problem of rated tournaments though as mentioned earlier.
Also that people in fellowship tournaments who leave a fellowship, can still carry on there game and win, surely that is not right for the members of the fellowship.
Like BBW says, tounament creators should be able to make sure there tournaments are run fair for all in them.
I for one am all for being able to set up a tournament which features invites only. There are times you want to play certain people or perhaps from a club or something. It would be very helpful.
The problem i can see with the creator being able to kick players out is as follows...
My brother plays the game StarCraft (if anyone is familiar with it). Anyways, quite often, people will create a game, and ban anyone who joins for no reason at all. The game sits there forever, never starts, and takes up space both on the server and the list of games screen.
I can see this happening here too...someone will create a tournament, kick everyone out who joins, and it will never start - just remain on the list forever.
Although, i still think its a good idea, because that likely would not happen very often.
And I agree with the private tournaments as well - good idea :-)
How about the being able to make "private" tournaments where the creator has to invite players to play in the tournament.
Right now to do that, you would have to create a fellowship, create a fellowship tournament, the invite the players you want to play.
Why? Lets take example some of the Backgammon Tournaments I have created. Maybe once I get the first 7 winners, I will want to invite them to an "overall" championship match. Or possible you have a group of friends that would like to get together for a friendly tournament.
BBW: I 100% agree, whoever starts a tournament should be able to make sure it runs correctly, in fellowships mainly.
My only concern i about rated ones, what if your rating is good enough (or bad - depending) at the time of entering, but then changes ??
