grenv: In regular old backgammon it should count as a captured piece which is extremely rare, but in the Backgammon Race or the Crowded Gammon variant the same problem could occur. Anyone want to try out?
Oh, by the way, of course this had to be counted as Backgammon.
AbigailII: It saved a bit of clicks. Be aware of your doubles though, because you can score gammon or backgammon. If an opponent is about to be gammoned, it's bad to force double, he rejects and you only recieve 1 point instead of 2.
grenv: They have played 120 moves a year, but they are with two, so that makes 240 moves in the games. 48 moves a year is almost one per week, throw in some vacation days and the calculation is correct.
O K, you guys are discussing about just those last two moves? That's making me a laugh.
First, as long as players (also like me, sorry about that) do not resign, please don't complain. If fact, I play BG games so fast that I forget the option to resign. In other games, however, I resign every lost position because I have to look at the game board first :). I think a large number of players here play BG games that way.
Second, come on! You already won that game, and the opponent just plays it out. O well, you are a Brain Rook member, so what does that extra game count to you?
Cloning BG, as I defined the game, the (my) rules say that captured pieces count as Race pieces. We should try this: the new cloned pieces would count as captured pieces instead. If no one can move, the game ends as a draw.
Hrqls: The only problem I see is that players already lost giving points to their friends by resigning in a backgammon position, like in the European Song Contest.

Fencer: New tournament forms are always cool, now just add the Champions League tournament (first the group phase of n players in the 8 groups, first 2 go through (for a total of 16) then Double elimination with random setup)insert for n any number.
nabla: Should be tried somehow. But, if the game's strategy is changed fundamentally, why not make it a new game? Long games CAN also be charming sometimes.
I also wanted to try an eight checkers variant for countering the opening strategy of blocking the player's home full with checkers. But then the are other questions come up: - Where to put those eight? - Is the strategy changed?
Or, try cloning BG rules in Hyper Backgammon, where capturing can save lives. Should be intersting enough to give a try.

Anyone interested in the score system of Cloning Backgammon: At first, you totally right when you say the scoring is not correct. It is already a big advantage to have extra pieces on the board, and even 21-point cube matches can be (will be) completed in one single game if played correctly. In the past, I thougt that cloning makes a disadvantage, but playing the game here at BK showed otherwise. This has to change.
In fact, the game is invented by me, so a rules change cannot be done if I don´t agree.
My proposal is:
Score only for games, gammons, or backgammons (multiplied by the cube). Don't score for anything else.
Anyone agreed? Post it on the boards. Anyone disagreed? Post it on the boards, but please MOTIVATE your disagreement or give ideas for improvements. So don't post that CG sucks, but post WHY it sucks (and what could be done to make it better).
LionsLair: Ithink that only Cloning Crowded Gammon will make other strategies to the game. Cloning Antigamon is endless (or even more endless than Anti Gammon already is...) Cloning Hyper make too short games (where a race is going already) so cloning in CHG is useless. Nackgammon and Racegammon will not change the game strategies too much, only Cloning Crowded will change a chaotic CG game into total chaos.
Subjekt: Re: An announcement of a new BG game/Bluffgammon
fakarten: I think you should see you opponent in real life to make this game good. At BK you can't see if the opponent's face is turning tomato-red when you say I think......... YOU'RE LYING!!
BrainKing is going to launch this new game variant (I post this in permission to Fencer). (If you don't believe, ask Fencer:)).
Cloning Gammon: (Players think twice before capturing a piece)
Standard Backgammon (Cube can be used). There are no Gammons or Backgammons. Each time you hit an opponent's checker, you MAY add one extra checker of your color to your bar, marked with an X.(the destination place for your captured checkers). If no cube is used, you MUST add one piece to the bar. These extra pieces count as Race pieces, so you can bring them in anytime you want. You can move freely with the extra checkers.(they will keep their markers as long as any of your normal (non-marked) pieces is still not in your home area, see next section)
The maximum number of extra checkers is 5.
Scoring: You must have only your 15 normal (non marked) pieces in your home area your bear them out. You are still allowed to move marked (cloned) pieces, but, if you do, the piece will lose its marker and you must also put this piece in your home area. If no cube is used, you must put all pieces in your home area first.
If there is no cube, the winner is that player who bears all his or her pieces off, of course.
When the cube is used, each piece after the 15th you bear off, will score you a point (duplicated with the number on the doubling cube). If any player bears his last piece off out his or her home area (regardless of other (marked) pieces on the board), the game ends and that player also gets one point not multiplied by the cube.
Maybe there are still bugs in it. If you have suggestions, message me or Fencer.

Carl: No I thought of this one, I don't know if it even exist as an official Variant, but, if not, I'll be the proud inventor of it and Fencer has then a nice unique game on his great site :).

This one is pretty fun to play, maybe there are still bugs in it. At least, the Gammon rules are now totally messed up. If you have suggestions, message me.

The game of Backgammon is a nice feature here on this great site, but I 'm missing other gammon variants. In the variants BK offers the only difference is the starting position of pieces (and Anti gammon). There should be more variants available where the BG rules are really messed up.
