Do you miss something on BrainKing.com and would you like to see it here? Post your request into this board! If there is a more specific board for the request, (i.e. game rule changes etc) then it should be posted and discussed on that specific board.
Transcendent chess is a strong variant to add to the chess arsenal. A precursor to FischerRandom chess, both backfiles are shuffled, and are separate from one another. It may require some tweaking, as it has an option to transpose 2 pieces as the first move, instead of castling. There is no castling in TC. Also they are played in pairs, with the same position, and players take opposite colors.
There is an Auction TC where you can bid to see who goes first, and you can offer up a certain number of moves if you are feeling certain you can win with a particular position.
I see the list of games above, but I wanted to throw that one in.
Also, I would like to see Alice Chess (posted at Chess Variants: Alice Chess) and consists of 2 boards side by side. Pieces powers are as in "normal" chess, except that when they move, they disappear from one board and appear in the same square on the adjacent board. Moves must be legal on the "exit" board, and then the piece moves to the "enter" board, back and forth on each turn. Mate becomes harder to see, and plans take an odd turn. Interesting to see a CC version of this; I am not sure how much of a challenge programming would be.
The idea to play "livegames" with we say 60 minutes for the whole game, would be a good supplement to our turnbased-games here.
One possibility to play live on the internet (without a server) could be a small freeware from Germany called MAX (Misc./download).Until yet you can play with MAX live chess, janus, checkers, reversi,go and the author wants to add other games.
Are there planned by Fencer other possibilities to play live here in Bk?
The Stories DB is awful empty. What if we converted it into a place for Pawns and Members alike to go and post jokes, chat, and voice opinions? The Moderator would make sure that all peeps who post will follow the regulations.
Maybe it could be called the "Freedom Board"?
If people had a place to go and have fun I think there'd be more people who'd wanna play here and maybe pay here.
The problem is that no board can be continuously moderated [24 hours a day] by only one person. It will be solved in BK 2.0 which supports unlimited number of co-moderators and other new board features that will make pawns allowed to post again.
I think it would be nice if, down next to the 'move and go to...' dropdown box, we had a checkbox for 'or go to next game if none'. It would also be nice if this checkbox was included in the 'make this the default' routine, in which case the box would not need to be checked each time.
For those of use who use some other setting than 'next game' (and of course, the box wouldn't be needed if that is the case), it would make things go quicker by not having to revert back to the main page and scroll down to find the next game we want to play.
Kinda on those lines... It would be nice, when you use the 'play this game later' option, for that game not to keep coming back up before the rest of your games... maybe could already change this, but I dont know how. But it is frustrating if I am trying to go through my games, all except one or two, for them to keep coming back to the top of my list. Does this make any sense?
What I think would be nice to see would be in the message box area.
It would be easier for me, if it were set up more like regular e-mail. After you read a message (and/or deleted the message), you could/would be immediately directed to the next message; rather than having to go back to the message page and click to get the next one.
Just a thought. I know it would save some of us enough time so we could beat Bumble another game or two.
Neither can I. Sometimes I'm stuck on the bar and a week later my opponent moves and I'm still stuck...it goes on too long sometimes. Even so, if I'm stuck on the bar, I see no sense in taking my turn only to find I'm still stuck. Have you ever had a situation where all the slots are blocked? I have. Many moves later....I get out. woopie... All that time could be saved with autopass.
I looked. The reasons seem silly to me. Having the "option" seems the smart thing to do. It seems that a few don't want that feature for themselves and they don't want it for anyone else either. Oh well. Please, no offense to anyone is meant.
I would like to see the "swap" version of 5-in-line at BK. The swap completely takes away 1st player`s advantage and would require only VERY little modifications to the current version.
The swap-version is simply regular 5-in-line with 2. player having an option of choosing whether he wants to play as black or white after total of 3 moves have been made. I personally think that 2nd player`s 1st move should be restricted so that it cannot be made OUTSIDE the same 5x5 center square inside which 1st player`s 2nd move cannot be made in Pente or pro-gomoku. Without this restriction player 2 could make his first move into 1 of the corners and get the advantage to himself.
Even in pro-gomoku the 1. players advantage is very big, but not so with the swap.
I`ll also post this text to the 5-in-line discussion board to get some comments about the restriction for 2. player which I proposed here.
I'd like to see the in house tournaments listed over to the right of the list of members in the fellowship. When there's over 200 members in a fellowship, that's a long way down to scroll to get to the tournaments.
Yes, I'm copying and pasting from one board to another, but it's my post so :-P~~~~~
If a person is playing in many different games and tournaments with many different time limits (and doesn't always have time to live on the computer), it's only natural they will play the shorter times quicker, and more often. So if a player plays his five-day tournaments within three days, his 15-day games within 10 days, etc, he's using roughly 60% of his time limits. So if you set up a tournament with a seven-day limit, and you want people to move within 2 or 3 days, you only allow people who take an average of 20% (or less) of their time limit. That way you have that 'buffer' of time that folks go on about so that 'if anything happens' people will still have 7 days to make the move, but most will be taking it earlier.
I dont get your meaning. Are you suggesting that a tournament's conditions include two time limits? One preferred and one "emergency"? If such is the case how do you define the emergency? If a person genuinely suddenly cant get on there must be a serious reason, eg a hurricane cuts of all electicity throughout the city, and I'm quite sure Fencer would reinstate games that timed-out in such conditions.
Sorry, Ug.. I should have cut more of the original post from the bk.c board. It was in reference to the different time-limit suggestions going on there. The idea was to be able to base entrance to tournaments on (started out as average moves per day) the average percent of the time limit said person used, in addition to bkr ratings. No, only one time limit per tournament. :)
Lythande: Thanks for the elucidation.
Fencer: How about more flags? At the moment there are five(!) for the UK but none for Europe. There's one for Tibet but none for Saminsk, none for various Pacific states, etc.
In reference to the flags, I'd like to reiterate my request that they have 'title="<country>"' in the img tags, please. Would be nice to be able to hover and see to which country the flag belongs. ;)
I would like a link on the left (in collumn layout -- where they are in row layout I've no clue ;) for the info page. If it's already there, then I'd like a new pair of glasses, please. ;)
I haven't sent Kevin his questions yet! (Sorry Kev!) April ran away with me and I'm a bit late with it! So still time to send me your questions for him!
Lythande: A link to BrainKing.info is at the top of Main Page.
Backoff: Don't worry, no cookies will log you in automatically in BK 2.0. For security reason, at least a password will have to be entered manually :-)
The problem I run into is that I play mostly at work. I'll be on for 5 or 10 mins then get busy for an hour and come back. I don't want to have to log in 30 times a day, that will get real annoying real quick. Most sites have an option that you can select to auto-login or to enter your password on every login. I think this makes much more sense that just making everyone login EVERY time the access the site. I mean we arn't doing our banking on here, it's a freak'n game site...
