Andersp: That's terrible! I just made 20 moves in that time... By the way: I played around a bit, and had the feeling that the time it takes to make a move is also determined by your current goto-option. It seems to be pretty fast when I have it set to "go to the next game", and it seems to take much longer when I have "go to the next game of this type" for instance. This might be a random observation, but I could imagine that the database lookup for the latter option is taking longer (perhaps because there is no index that combines timeout date and game type...). Anyone had the same experience or was it just a coincidence?
MadMonkey: You can see what I can't..perhaps because you are also Captain. I see only "there are no team challenges that you can accept." The key words are probably that "you" can accept which excludes all but Captains. Rats.
coan.net: Am I to understand that the Big Boss can not only not post the team to the waiting room but can not even see if there are challenges up there? That would explain why I hit "teams" and get "none available." This is unfortunate.
coan.net: I do understand what you are saying, the same as what Fencer said
BUT why can not we just have a simple selection box, like we already have when creating normal Waiting Games. Where we can select what Fellowship we are selecting it for or creating one for......simple really
A. I can understand why Fencer does not want to let a BIG BOSS create fellowships since it might confuse the system - for example, MadMonkey - lets say you decided to join the Random Team in my fellowship since there are plenty on the team in your fellowship, and I made you captain. When you go to the Open team tournaments, and you hit "create" - does the system create one for your fellowship or the team you captain?
I think the good compramise would be to let both Captains & BIG BOSSes create & accept open challenges - BUT if that situation comes up where a person is both, CAPTAIN will always "win" against BIG BOSS - so if that situation came up, you would always be acting as a captain. Not sure how much extra that would take to program it, but if not much - that is what I would like to see.
B. I agree with letting everyone know what team challenges are open in the waiting room - even if they are not captain or BIG BOSS. Seeing what is available might (1) get a player to talk to their captain to accept the challenge, and (2) might get some on a team so they can play against the challenge.
pauloaguia: That is what i envisaged when i thought of the idea.
I just wanted a place where i (as a Big Boss), could put public Invites (which i can through the Fellowship, but not via the Waiting Room, crazy) and also accept them on behalf of my Captains. I am here a LOT more than all my Captains, and it would be nice when a challenge is posted to be able to see it & accept it rather than having to wait until my Captain logs in.
As you say not all Captains are alert enough or interested enough to keep up with things like this, and all Team members as well should be able to see the invites.
MadMonkey: I'd even prefer any tem member to be able to see those waiting matches. A Team captain may not always be alert or insterested... but if some of the team members point out that a new match is open that they would like to take part in, the captain may accept the challenge after all...
Purple: Fencer will not allow Bosses to unless they are Captains of those Teams
Crazy when Bosses can do exactly the same within a Fellowship, by clicking on the link in the Team box (Create new public team challenge) and creating one for a Team there, but you can not from the Waiting Room.
MadMonkey: Stupidly enough I didn't even consider the possibility that you weren't on the same country Yes, it would probably be just as expensive to send the money to Fencer in that situation then... or maybe you know some other member in the states that could help them out too (and is trustworthy of course)
pauloaguia: I do not see why someone in the states should have to send me (in England) money, it may as well go straight to Fencer
There was until a while ago a list of people in various countries, where what you suggest could be done making it easy. Sadly, that is now gone. They have not got a PayPal account for a valid & personal reason, yet because of this they can not get there membership, and so leaving, because no one has the time to help them with there problem.
i have done my bit, keeping them here, even paying for them to try out membership, maybe i should just buy there Black Rook for them as well
MadMonkey: (Just commenting on the Customer Service bit) Just because Customer Service isn't around any more, doesn't mean people can't send you money for you to pay for their BK accounts using your PayPal account. All it takes is for them to trust you enough to send you the money. There are people who I used to pay accounts for until they finally got old enough to have a credit card and a PayPal account. And I only became a Customer Service Representative after that... but the principle still holds - everytime someone contacts me on how to purchase a membership I explain how to use PayPal and in the end, offer my services as a last resort...

This place amazes me, in a BAD way sadly these days.
I have a friend who i made a Bishop for a while to see if he liked it here. He did and wanted to get a life membership ( Black Rook ), but has no PayPal account and a wire transfer will cost a fortune on top. He has asked for help from Fencer and although Fencer did reply, he has got know where. So sadly now him and his friends (who have the same problem) are now leaving BrainKing.
Myself and harley created Customer Service years ago for this or anything to sort problems out and answer questions, to help people, this seems to have all but vanished along with Customer Service.
This is not a dig a Globs, but at everything this site is becoming. I love this place and have done since i joined over 5 years ago.
In those days you could post on boards and get a friendly answer in minutes. These days you are lucky to get and answer, and if you do it is not exactly helpful or understanding. As has proved AGAIN over the last few days, an argument starts.
It comes to something when we can not even help others sort problems out. I thought getting members and therefore generating income would be of vital importance to running a site like this.
I just tried the tracert brainking.com thing and got 30 request time outs , do they all time out ? or is that the reason i dont seem to see any routes/times .
Andersp: I meant more the general posts about football and beer as being light-hearted fun . You are right about the other post. I know this isn't proper protocal, but I have taken the liberty of deleting the post. If anyone has a problem with this, please PM me, and once again, I hope that this board can be returned to it's intended purpose. Brainking, it's structure, it's features.
Thema: Re: "If there is no one to moderate..find someone."
Jim Dandy: LSU-Ohio St. is on in 5 minutes so I think I will have a beer, call Kammy and watch some football. Jim..have a beer and watch some football. lol
Thema: Re: "If there is no one to moderate..find someone."
Eriisa: I want to be a part of the solution, not the problem.Right now I'm just trying to get a feel for a way out of the tense situation, but sometimes I feel I keep walking on land mines, sorry,Purple is right, you are one of the good ones
Thema: Re: "If there is no one to moderate..find someone."
Purple: nope, I didn't consider you in the message
JD, the comments are coming from a line that Fencer posted and people decided as aimed at them. Whether it was not not, that part of the conversation has been ended and didn't need to be dragged up again and again.
Thema: Re: "If there is no one to moderate..find someone."
Eriisa: The board heading says "Board for everybody who is interested in BrainKing itself, its structure, features and future."
I respectfully submit that the present is very important to the future, though some of the cheap shots do nothing to work towards that end,on that I agree.
Thema: Re: "If there is no one to moderate..find someone."
Eriisa: The discussion switched from citicizing Fencer to some good natured ribbing of FORMER GM's and technical advice for each other. But I will heed your warning and hope this post won't be considered Troll. You are one of the good ones.
Thema: "If there is no one to moderate..find someone."
I'm giving this one warning to everyone in general, please.
I know you are frustrated. I knew you are not happy with Fencer's answer. Guess what? He knows it too. But what else can he say that he has not said at least once?
The things are the way they are right now, are not going to change (at least right away) so I would suggest to let it go for now.
So the BKFBI..."Behave or be banned" is now in effect........ to quote Andersp.
The next Troll comment will be banned in particular until Hrqls gets online.
Uninvited: The site is humming along better tonite.I think I'll take the firefox leap anyway, but I'm a creature of habit, probably the same reason I could never learn to drive standard lol
Jim Dandy: I have Firefox2 and Internet explorer on my pc. My games are loading fast tonight, I had it on Firefox and my Ludo games only took one sec. to load all the way, I switched to IE. and the ludo games took four seconds each time. The point I'm getting at is Firefox is way better and if you don't like it just take it back off your PC. It's free so you got nothing to loose.
Thema: Re: but it is not worth a tenfold of the current monthly fee I am already paying. Expenses must be reasonable too.
Purple: I think it comes back to what Andersp was saying. You may be a genius in the tech end,but lacking in people skills. The people skills people should do the people stuff.
Thema: Re: but it is not worth a tenfold of the current monthly fee I am already paying. Expenses must be reasonable too.
Jim Dandy: Some of the more trigger happy ones have been replaced and the current crop doesn't seem to be as egregious. I now moderate or are BB on 8 F/S and I think the old rule is best: He who moderates least moderates best.
Thema: Re: but it is not worth a tenfold of the current monthly fee I am already paying. Expenses must be reasonable too.
Andersp: I wouldn't want to paint everyone with the same brush,I have had my own issues in a global mod scenario. There are good and bad apples in every crop, and some don't know how to handle power.
