pgt: Exactly this is the reason I do not participate in gammon(especially cloning backgammon) tournaments with long time controls. It does not matter how many years it can take for a tournament to finish. You have to take that in account when setting up time controls. This is why Fischer time controls exist. Any tournament creator can make use of them. Anyone wanting to participate to a tournament can take the time controls in account. Less people participate in tournaments, because less people play in the site. And from those that pay, very few like quick time controls, it seems. I am one of those that try to create tournaments with quick time controls. Hardly any of them ever get enough people to start.
pgt: Those players play according to the tournament's time controls. When you signed up to the tournament, you knew the time controls. The fact that you have finished your games, along with the majority of the players and they have not, does not give you the right to violate your agreement with the time controls at the expense of your rivals. What you suggest is unethical and I am sorry if you cannot understand it.
As a final reminder, this is a game site. You play games for enjoyment. You can resign any game at anytime if you no longer enjoy playing it.
As beach said, there are far more important things in life than getting upset because a tournament has not finished when you deem it should have.
pgt: I understand your problem. However, since people do not like participating in tournaments with fast or superfast time controls, there is nothing anyone can do about it. It is all about what most people enjoy best.
Doris: This is something that can be solved by messaging the creator, I guess. I doubt beach would know anything about it. It can be done by mistake, you know.

Doris: I took a look at the tournament but the 7 games with standard vacation is too much for my preferences. Obviously, ladyhawke(the creator) must have blocked you from signing up to her tournaments.

Justaminute: The rating does not suffer from the same problem. Obviously, you need to be eligible at the time of registering for the tournament, not at the time the tournament starts. Nowhere in the world in any kind of tournament it is required to fulfill qualification conditions at the *start of a tournament*. Only at the time of registration.

TC: I fail to see a special reason why not to create one tournament for each backgammon variation, setting the minimum rating in each.
Even if you do not want to do so, I still cannot see why not posting minimum ratings in the forum for each backgammon variation, instead of a completely unfriendly and obscure 10%. I understand politicians and media trying to confuse the population by using percentages but I am of the opinion that a tournament announcement should be as forthcoming as reasonably possible.
As I said in my first post, I do not think that you should care about my opinion on the matter, since it appears most of the people here are fine with your way of setting up these tournaments, I just said that I am not going to participate as long as it stays that way.
I am not fond of being kicked out of tournaments because the organizer did not bother giving me clear qualification requirements.

TC: I already said 2 ideas. Post either rating limit or ranking limit. It is possible and there is no limitation imposed by the site owner. You will have to make the calculations anyway before starting the tournament.
If you use the rating limit, you can include that to your tournament creation, so that you let the site handle the legitimacy of the participants. This convenience has been included to the tournament creation *exactly* to facilitate your kind of tournament and not just for show.

TC: I do not know if I am in the "Top 10% faster backgammoners" but until you post minimum rating or minimum position in the rankings, I am not going to participate in your tournaments.
Not that I think you should care but I thought you *might* want to know.
Thema: Re: Open Invite: Top 10% Faster Backgammoners for 2014 9-10
TC: No offense meant, of course, and it is a lot of work for the organizer of the tournament to take care of just before the tournament starts. The 10% stroke me as an oddity and, of course, there is the issue with the inactive top players :).
Perhaps "unfriendly announcement" was a wrong term. As I said, no offense meant.
vstjrt: The fastest way to end a game is to resign. If you think you are the one winning, just keep passing. Each stone he places, deprives him of winning space. Every player is entitled to playing the game to the end. I would hardly call this "stubbornness". We are humans and humans make mistakes.
Thema: Re: Open Invite: Top 10% Faster Backgammoners for 2014 9-10
TC: Top 10%? This is quite vague. Perhaps you should define positions. Besides, the ratings change all the time. In fact, someone can meet the criteria when joining and after the start of the tournament but not just before the start of the tournament.
At any case, I hope you enjoy the tournaments despite the rather unfriendly announcement.
