furbster: When I was in Australia we were more likely to sleep through most of Sunday after sampling the local pubs on Saturday night. Then again maybe that's just me...
mctrivia: But how would the system know? Do you propose that one email is sent and then the notifications are turned off until the next time you log in and out? That might be the solution I guess.
If (canMove(player2))
{
endMove(player1)
}
else
{
player2.pass
}
I don't think the difficulty of the code is the point, only the fact that for silly reasons it is not implemented.
The point about chatting is not even correct, since what is the difference between making one move and typing a message, and making 6 moves and typing the same message? I don't get it.
mctrivia: You misunderstood. There are 2 types of conditional moves:
1."If my opp plays x then I play y. This may be useful, but how often can you predict the opponents move?
2.Propose to your opponent the next few moves. If he or she agrees play continues from that point. This is very useful in many "semi-forced" continuations. Against a weak opponent you may be hoping for a silly error, but a good player is likely to see the same continuation and agree.
example.
After
1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 Nc6 3.Bb5, black could move 3...a6 with the proposal 4.Ba4 Nf6
If white accepts he can play move 5 immediately. If not he may play an alternative to 4.Ba4.
mctrivia: On many chess sites it is possible to propose moves for both players. For example you may check your opponent and there's only one place to logically move.
This is very useful for some variants like anti and atomic chess. Not so useful in dark chess, lol.
alanback: The advantage of letting the opponent see, is that by them accepting you can jump ahead that many moves all at once. This wouldn't be used much early, but can be very useful later when there are forced moves for a few moves.
playBunny: Yes, that is the problem with the flags, it isn't obvious what they are for. Probably a "Choose Language" header? On the other hand if that was in another language it may not be obvious anyway. lol.
playBunny: Conditional moves are where after your move you propose what the next few moves should be. The opponent can accept or reject them. It is very useful in speeding up the game when there are a few forced or obvious moves.
An analysis board is a board where you are able to move the pieces around while analyzing the position, presumably it would start in the same state as the actual game board.
Thema: Re: Rating should consider the number of points in the match
playBunny: I agree, we should use the ELO formula.
prophet: I disagree with the premise that players are not inclined to play long matches, on the contrary I'd rather play a long match, where at least I know the better player has a good chance of winning.
Czuch Chuckers: I think the ratings are being manipulated by players that refuse to play certain games, while others are willing to play anyone. Therefore they are being rendered meaningless.
At least if you were forced to play random people from time to time that would be somewhat addressed.
playBunny: If I jump around happily will that help?
I'm just tired of people complaining about playing players with low ratings. I play all sorts of lower rated players without too much affect on my oh so important rating.
playBunny: Or how about the idea that the ratings actually mean something that has a material impact on your life and choose your opponents accordingly. Relax, it's just a game. Nobody cares what your stupid rating is.
Czuch Chuckers: I think that's the worst idea I ever heard. If you play a competitive game it shouhld be rated. If you play a low rated player try beating them, that won't affect your rating.
Czuch Chuckers: Right, this is a czech site. But American English is kind of pervasive so it's not so surprising. In most other english speaking countries it would be holiday, so if this was a site in England you would never see the word vacation used in this context I think.
I think many people are missing the point. Backgammon players are asking for a fix to the game, and the addition of a crucial element (the cube). I agree we don't need any new variations of backgammon.
Fencer: It's not a question of obligation, nobody is asking for their money back.
However if you want more people to renew their membership or new people to join then you may need to provide more. For example potential members that enjoy backgammon but not chess will go elsewhere if you don't fix the bug and introduce the cube.
Fencer: Strange, it's only in this forum that the cursor has a strange pixel attached and is very thick, but only using Firefox. IE works fine, but I hate using IE.
WhiteTower: Actually more multiplayer games would be good. There are multiplayer versions of chess (bughouse for one, which is 2 vs 2) and other games like chinese checkers might be fun.
So, I joined a tournament labeled "Fast Espionage" mistakingly thinking ti would be fast, but actually it has an almost unlimited time limit, and nobody has moved in several days. How can i be removed from this tournament?
I would like to be able to delete all the games or something like that.
