Merrily Watkins: In general, children & adults should be able to talk,in a healthy manner.but with so much negative behavior in the world tho,I must agree, maybe its a bad idea.
re on your list #5. "Adults pretending to be children would post.":
I personally dont see what attracts a man to children.Anyway,I want to bring to every mother's attention something I have observed:
"children pretenting to be adults".
I volunteer at the local community centre and sometimes use the libraries computers.I have seen on too many occassions.young girls getting into chatrooms & talking sexy to older men & pretending to be older.I have learned that this is considered fun & is very popular.I'm sure many mothers would be shocked at what some of their daughters are typing.it is something to be aware of.
I want to br
Bry: I'm referring to swaer words, sexual innuendo's, sexual references etc etc.
And that's where the trouble starts. You might consider something to be a "swear word", while I would find moderating such a word overprotecting. Or vica versa. The same with sexual references. Some people believe it's better if children don't even hear or read the words used for certain body parts. While others think that such restrictions is bad - because it gives the impression something is wrong with it.
I see your point re having a board for kids as asking for trouble
Actually, that's not what I said. I said that having a moderated board is asking for trouble. And then I don't mean moderated in the style current boards are moderated, which basically means trying to keep the discussion on topic and people to behave, but moderated as in "deciding what's 'good' or 'not good' for the children".
perhaps the very young should be accomodated accordingly and be responsibly looked after by trusted people
I think the (very) young should be looked after by trusted people: their parents/guardians. I don't think it's up to a game site to fill that role.
I am back to thinking a "G" rated board strickly for CHILDREN, closely monitered my a MOM that knows a lot of peeps on BK and has a child of their own to use such a site as a monitor! "HARLEY" comes to mind!
It is not the game sites job to fill the role of parents in deciding whats appropiate! So eliminate ALL Adult subjects to this one site and then they are safe!
If parents want their children to know MORE, then let the parents tell them and teach them more, let the parents allow them on sites where material is adult, let the parents teach them in private at home, not peeps on a game site! Give the Parents a choice! They have no choice now!
Ok this is my last warning, all further posts that are not requesting a feature or along those lines will be deleted. This is thread has gone on too long. Please take it to either general chat or members only, thank you.
If I am not mistaken this program doesnt exist at Brainking anymore. I thought it was a good idea. I know there are several players here want cash tournaments but wouldnt it be nice to combine cash tournaments with a boost a pawn program. It would be like a 50-50 deal. The total cash prize would be seperated into half going to the winner and the other half going to sponsor low income people who wish to have a membership for 6 months and then a reduced rate on another 6 months so they could get a year membership for the price of a of 6 months. This would be good for those who are skeptical to join as well a chance to get in for cheap and may prompt them to renew their membership at the regular rate thereafter.
it's no doubt that this is a great site, but it has needed some tweaking in the dice program since it's debut.... it's frustrating to say the least to have an opponent NOT move proper pieces in backgammon when there is a legal move on the board... it becomes especially disturbing when playing a close game of anti-backgammon and a lose occurs because of this flaw... if the player can make a legal move with the dice he/she is shown, then they should have to play the forced move, not the move that they can move only one of the dice... I have brought this subject up before a year or so ago, and if I recall it was being looked into... I've seen alot of new developments come along to the site, but nothing to addressing the flaw in the dice program...why?
LionsLair: true, and also,if attention is ever paid to this.maybe some thought could be given to the use of the doubling cube.this factor is essential to the strategy of backgammon.what y e all think?
fixing the program flaw or creating pro 'gammon games?... I'd opt for fixing the flaw while I was creating the program for the doubling cube... two birds with one stone... or is it not that easy a fix?
Summertop: I too would like to see the creation of another public board that could handle topics when moderators from another board have determined that a topic that once was relevant has moved beyond the relevance for that board. My personal experience has tought me that you can get pushed from board to board by moderators who want your discussion anywhere but in their backyard, and who ultimatly accuse you of spamming all the boards because you keep moving the topic at their suggestion. Most often the "final" call is to ask you to go to debate fellowship or boiler room or wherever. But I dont think that sending public board discussions to a fellowship is the correct solution at all! Maybe what we need is a public debate board? I mean it makes no sense to have most of a conversation on a public board with public access and then require that conversation to continue to some private fellowship with its limited and exclusive memberships. Just doesnt make any sense!
Seriously, Chuck, I think you have a valid point. Its one thing to make a suggestion as a feature request, but when a discussion/debate starts about that suggestion, any other requests could get 'buried' and not seen. Therefore, the mods would feel it needs to move to another board.
Now with the posting today, I came on after most of it was already posted. The first post that I know of was at 4. March 2005, 07:48:38 my time zone. That is well over 6 hours ago, and I find postings on 3 boards (Members, BK, General Chat) so I jumped in with the spamming the boards comment. Its the way it looked 7 or 8 hours later ... (or however long that was). I certainly did not mean to set you off.
How about a sub-board for boards such as features to which the discussions arising from a request can be moved while leaving the main board free for new business?
Anybody found this out yet? If I give my Dark Chess opponent the opportunity to take my pawn en passant, then will he (and should he) see it? And if so then for only one move? From the rules I guess that he will, but it is not spelled out so I suggest that it could be made clearer.
I have seen so many people monopolizing chat about some subjects...and people trying to turn away from it..and moderators commenting.
so I think there really needa to be discussion boards re:
politics
philosophy & psychology
How about separating the 5 extra checkers from the checkers that are hit? Either by giving them different appearences, or putting the extra checkers elsewhere.
jaha: Or marking them, or putting a sentence by the board saying something about the hit blots on the bar, or any number of things we thought up about this awhile back and it all came to naught. I think just marking them different would be a great way to do it. Or have them set off to the side to be brought into the game and leave the bar for hit blots only.
Hrqls: Acey-duecy has the extra dice roll... Roll a 1-2 and move then you get a set of doubles, your choice... Then it is your turn again... The game can go lopsided if someone hits a 1-2 all the time...
Why is there not an option to rate all games in a Match;this is done on every other chess site I know of? So why not consider it;I believe it would encourage more people like me to play Matches. Thank you.
tedbarber: i dont like matches either .. but its more fair the way it is like right now in those games where a certain color has a strong advantage ... when all games in the match would count you would get a ratio of about 50% for win/loss .. the way it is right now you can play matches to find out the real winner over a number of games and work on a real ratio
Daniel Snyder: are you saying that if you roll a 1 & a 2 you play your 1 & 2 then you play a double of your choice then it's still your turn so you roll the dice again. Effectively having 3 turns in a row?
