I just cleaned it and it worked fine reading the cleaning disc. You learn something new every day! I'll also change the write speed, its set on x24 as standard, I usually leave it at that.
Whats XP?
Well not totally dumb, there are some (although tend to be the more expensive ones) that will not play normal media as a reader would. But most that I have come across read and write!!

Also, you should still be able to use the Mr Data discs, try changing the write speed to x2 or x1 (maybe x4) and reduce the amount by 50mb of the capacity. :)
Oh!! and try using XP instead of NERO or the likes!! XP handles better I think!
Well it should actually just work exactly the same as 'D' drive. If you put a music CD in your writer it should play as normal!! All writers are also READERS!! Unless you got a special one from the same people that make Mr data discs LOL
Cheers Aragon, I've been using Mr Data disks. £10 for 50 in Tesco!
This is going to sound really dumb, but if you put a lens cleaner in, how do you get it going round to clean it? Its not like a D drive is it, where you just 'play' the disk.

harley: power calibration errors are caused mostly by poor media. (cheap branded cd's ie. promedia) - try using a different brand (compusa, tdk's, memorex, sony) are the best bet; don't waste your money on cheap disks - youll just waste them. also, keep you cd writer clean by using the cd cleaner kits, a dirty lens will also cause the callibration errors!!
What would be a "Power calibration error" on an external disk writer? I've had it a few times in the last couple of days but haven't a clue what it means.
To show your most recently used documents on the Start menu
Right-click the Start button, and then click Properties.
On the Start Menu tab, click Start menu, and then click Customize.
On the Advanced tab, select the List my most recently opened documents check box.
The next time you click Start, the My Recent Documents folder is on the Start menu. This folder contains the documents and files you opened recently.
Note
On the Advanced tab, click Clear List to empty the My Recent Documents folder. This does not delete the documents from the computer.
in 98 i right click on the task bar, click on properties, go to the second tab and there i can clear the list :)
(which will also clear the list of 'execute' in my start menu)
Mousetrap: to clear the drop down bar you have to go to the internet properties (right click on the internet explorer icon on your desktop and chose 'properties' then go to the 'content' tab and click on 'autocomplete' in there clear the forms and passwords
but i think thats not it i think you have to clear the recent file list .. i dont know how to do that in windoes xp ... i mainly use windows 98 :) .. which version of windows do you use ?
doing it that way only deletes the history that is stored in your history folder i believe not the drop down address bar ,, you could try the box above that one delete cookies and delte files , i just did it and it emptyied my address bar .
Jason:
No I am not having any luck. I am trying to clear the history in the drop down address bar some other way than clicking tools internet options then clear history, because it won,t let me do that as the clear history button is greyed out.
Hrqls:
I an,t even find the history folder now lol! Oh well! I wanted to clear all the items out of the drop down address bar, I will just have to persevere untill I find it again.

If you're not too blonde e.g. falling to someone permanently repeating how nice he is,
always laughing, just eager to provide good music for everyone, you still may feel safe.

My history button is greyed out and I have too much in my history, I have tried disk clean up and that did,nt remove it. Is there any way I can solve this problem? Thanks very much.
