General talk about movies, TV, radio, and other entertainment discussion.
Discussing favorite movies is a great topic but keep in mind some folks haven't seen the movie yet we may be discussing so don't give the endings away!

Summertop: I guess I was expecting something else from the movie. I saw it too and hadnt read the books or played any games before seeing it. Our son saw it first and said it was such a kool flick so we went to see it. Mildly dissapointed and would say its a'n ok rental rather then a theatre flick. Going to check out this game link you posted!
Went and saw this movie...I laughed. It was funny. My poor wife. She hadn't played the text adventure game nor had she read the book. She was totally lost.
i saw alien vs preditor on pay per view and it was good. when it comes out on dvd i'm most definitely buying it. two thumbs up. now grudge was a different matter it wasn't as scary as the previews led it to be
Sad Sad news today. Today, aprox 5pm I get home from work, grab the remote control and learn that my TV has passed away. He will be sadly missed. Even though no TV can ever fill the stand like he did, we will try - and come Monday, a new TV should be delivered to hopefully bring us many many days of sitting on our behinds and watching endless TV.
RIP - My TV
Hum... strange, isn't this "turn off the TV week" to help promote exercise or something?
Sir John Mills died yesterday, aged 97. He was in some great films.....anyone seen Ice Cold In Alex? Good old black & white movie! (My other halfs favourite film!)

Summertop: Sorry Summertop I was making the assumption that you had recently finished the book. It had been a while for me as well and I found myself digging out my copy to find the character names.
Whenever my sister and I had finished the same book we would always play casting director to see who would best fit the roles.
For example I would cast Uma Thurman for the role of Racheal. She's a capable actress coming off a popular movie pair of Kill Bills'and is in the right age range for the role. She can also look smart & sexy at the same time.
I like Aaron Eckhart for the role of Micheal. I think his star has been slowly rising and will be a very recognizible actor in a few years.
Gene Hackman for Director Pickering. I know that sounds like type-casting but that's because he is so frickin good at those cloak & dagger type politcal/governmental roles.
Anyways I'm just finishing up another of Dan Brown's book, Digital Fortress which is pretty good, but I still like Deception Point best.
Pawnchucker, Now you are really putting me to the grind stone...Hmmmm, if I could figure that out I could make a lot of money as a casting director . This is not the last book I read, so I can't remember all of my mental images of the characters.
Jeff Goldblum as Michael Tolland?
Shannyn Sossamon as Racheal Sexton?
Summertop: I always thought Deception Point was the best of Dan Brown's books. I thought it had great pace, a plausable enough scenario and plenty of intrigue to make a great movie.
Question, who would you cast in the main roles such as Racheal Sexton, Micheal Tolland, President Herney, Director Pickering, or Marjorie Tench? Just to name a few of the key players.

Nothingness: Did you like the ending to the Dark tower/Gunslinger series by Stephen King? I was somewhat disappointed. Although, it does make some sense based on the preceding story.

im one of the few who feels that the movies are usually better than the book. You can draw an incorret picture with a book and you will then have to reread it again once you get the correct picture in your mind. For example in the book drawing of the three. (S.King)He describes a woman in it that i visualized to be an ugly 400lb woman when in fact she was only a very frail beautiful woman. In these instances books are flawed,if they dont give enough description. Which most books dont. Using your own imagination wont work if it dont jive with the autors story.
Who else cant wait to see it. anyne wanting to see the script for this movie go to www.supershadow.com there are a few versions of it including an almost 100% line for line script as well as a brief summary of the movie.
Pure punk rock and cult, that’s what you can say about the four maniacs with their rocking hairdos. Sadly Johnny Ramone, Dee Dee Ramone and Joey Ramone are no more, Marky these days plays with the Misfits. So, this DVD (out on BMG) is more than a normal DVD, it’s a visual memory treasury .
Served in a natty hardcover paper package with embossed printing and a booklet inside, the icons present us a nice tourstory, suiting to the recommendable book „On The Road With The Ramones“ (Sanctuary Publishing). Finally, 30 years after their origin it is really high time for such a release. „Raw“ is not only a movie about their career (1974 – 1996), it is also a document about the personal sides hidden behind the phenomenon Ramones. Most of the material shows the band backstage, whilst TV recordings (f.e. „The Howard Stern Summer Show“, „The Uncle Floyd Show“, „USA Up All Night“, MTV's „120 Minutes“) were going on or whilst the band was on tour, where even proms like Drew Barrymore, Debbie Harry, U2 or Motörhead’s Lemmy Kilmister showed up. Also the stuff Marky captured with his high-8 camera is very entertaining. Specially all the TV appearances are not available in better quality and summing-ups elsewhere as most of the recordings also are rare and not easy to find. A special cookie for every Ramones fan is the "I Ramones Live in Rome, Italy 1980" full-length (27 mins) bonus program. Well, this concert is also part of the main program, so you've kinda repetition here, but on the bonus version there are additional songs and it’s shown without interruption. Another thing to notice is the audio commentary by Johnny Ramone, Marky Ramone and director John Cafiero (also known from his visual work with the Misfits). This item should get a place in your DVD shelf. One, two, three, four...
Laibach: The Videos is a visual spectacle that will perplex and entertain anyone who loves the challenging music of Laibach.
This great collection of videos, spanning Laibach’s controversial career of making people feel uncomfortable, is a definite DVD to explore. Although Laibach has been accused of being both fascists and communists, I suppose the band’s choice of totalitarian visual elements can lead to such a simplified conclusion.
Aside from any speculation about Laibach’s political affiliation, the band has always managed to turn the music upside down and inside out, displaying an unpalatable moveable feast not fit for consumption. Visually speaking, Laibach uses the art of juxtaposition to stunning effect, often bringing about seemingly contradictory imagery while obliterating all referential equilibrium in the process.
So, visually, what you have on this DVD is an amalgamation of the grainy martial lens of Leni Riefenstahl's propaganda films, the pastoral militancy from The Sound of Music, wartime newsreels, and the desolation of Solaris. The video for the song “Final Countdown” is a futuristic New World of computer graphics and animation (directed by Laibach in 1994) that is absolutely stunning.
Besides the thirteen videos, Laibach also included on this DVD a documentary (WAT EPK) on the origins of Laibach and NSK (the artistic collective from where the band originated), plus individual commentary about all of the songs on their WAT CD. Even more fun than reading Spengler’s Der Untergang des Abendlandes, this DVD is a must see for fans of the band, or for the perpetually curious who might enjoy pondering the devastation of the next world war.
