Fencer: Does the 'new' brainking kick in automatically when the 'original' brainking is getting full?

I was thinking (always dangerous) that if members were to use the 'new' one and pawns were to use the 'old' one, would that help lighten the load, or more evenly distribute the traffic. A link to the 'new' bk could then be put on the 'members only' board.

I know, I know.... I admit it! I haven't a clue about computers and servers and stuff.

Anybody who wants to participate in testing of our experimental configuration, feel free to use http://new.brainking.com. It is not a new version of BrainKing, only a kind of simple load balancer on our current servers.
It could be faster and more stable. If you have problems with that, you can always return to normal BrainKing.com URL.

Hey Felix, I hope Mr. Trice does indeed get your money to you. But it needs to be made clear that this has nothing to do with Brainking.com. I only point this out, because when you brought it up, it was in reference to a player here wanting a refund because of the site problems. And you told him/her to not hold their breath. Just because you have run into problems with the creator of that tournament, in NO way indicates how Fencer would handle this other person's problem.
I FULLY sympathize with you, I just don't think it's fair to criticize the website for a personal matter between you and Mr. Trice.
Good luck getting your money. I would be frustrated too.

I am on nights this week, so on here same time as the Americans at the moment. I managed 590 moves yesterday, so even if this was across 16 hrs (960 mins) I would have made a move every 1.6 mins, and managed to post on many boards .So maybe this says the site is not as slow as it seems :o)

A bit slow? That is the understatement of the year. It just took me about 10 minutes and 5 BrainKing.com is temporarily down messages to try and sign back in.

Emne: Re: Game Time Limits
I would have to have over 2 months more vacation days added to my account to take in to account the server "time warp"

... and with the site still going slow (move is waiting in different window as I type this), and I'm now stuck with many more games then I can handle - I would at least like the site to add 3-5 days to each "0" game - then I could use my vacations and stuff to help me play my games without timeing out. Right now, my vacation days would do no good with the games at "0" time - only other games that are getting close to the "0" time while I try to get through all the extra games I have now! :-(

The point is that it is the site's fault that I have too many games now - I planned ahead and got my game count down as I started a new job, but because of site problems, I need a little more help to get going again. That's all i'm asking for... a little more help! :-)

I disagree. We've all had a week. It's time to move on.The quicker we move on the less gripes will be heard about the......well you know.
If I was so concerned about my games timing out that would and should be the #1 priority.Work on them before anything else or use some vacation time.To many people are complaining about slow movers now.I do realize some people have more time to spend here than others.

I see your predicament, Mickey.. I mean Felix. :o)
Well all I can suggest in this case is to wait until Ed has been on, and read your post. See what he suggests. If the last cheque wasn't sent registered, maybe another cheque should be sent that is?

You'd not mentioned previously that a statement had been made about reissuing a second cheque to you. I have no other advice to give you but hope that the payment was indeed sent to you which would restore faith in this person. My only input would be to say I can see mail getting lost once but certainly not twice.

Emne: Re: harley...
Rose, been there done that. Ed assured me that if he had accidentally addressed the refund incorrectly that he would cancel the check and send a replacement. That was over a month ago. I have sent other messages, and there has been no response. I am at my wit's end, okay? So what would you do, take a plane across the country to meet him in person or take him to small claims court for $50? It comes down to one simple thing: honesty and reputation come into question if all else fails, and I have no idea what else I can do, do you? I'm all ears (and I'm not Mickey).

Felix, I totally understand your frustration. I'm not making excuses for anyone, I'm just pointing out that you really need to speak to Gothic Inventor about this.
I'm sure this can be sorted out between yourself and him, maybe using Rose's suggestion. It sounds like a sensible idea to me.

Emne: Game Time Limits
May i make the suggestion that you wait a little longer before turning back on the time limit, or at least turn all "0" time into 3-5 days before you turn back on the time.

Back in Septermber (before I had a new job & had more time), I could keep up with my 500+ games - in late October when I had less time, I was doing good with getting my games down to around 300 - but now that I'm back stuck with 500+ games, It's taking me awhile to get my games back off "0" time.

I would hate to time out on games when it is a site problem that got me with so many games with zero time! :-(

Sounds fine to me. But at this point, I'm all finished hearing excuses. Sorry, but to whomever I need to talk to to get action: this is the situation, now. I won't make a pest of myself, nor am I being a "bad sport." I play chess well, I play Gothic sort of okay, and I NEVER CHEAT. So when I get cheated, it kind of hurts, know what I mean? BTW I think Harleys are way cool.

Felix, the Gothic World Championships are run by Gothic Inventor, Ed Trice. And while these are played out on BrainKing, the ultimate responsibility for all moneys is down to Gothic Inventor, and nothing to do with BK. (That was my understanding of the tournament anyway!)

Fastest way to cure that is have the person who said they sent you the payment call their bank and cancel the cheque. Reissue a second cheque to you send it by registered mail so that you are guaranteed to receive your money with in the week.. Easy enough to do, doesnt cost more then a few extra pennies to ensure someone is indeed getting their money back. Shows good faith in my opinion. It is how I run my business!

Rose, I signed up for the Gothic World Championship tournament long before most others did, in July, but when too few respondents paid their entrance fees, the creator of the tournament postponed the start date without notifying me. When I tried to make my first moves on the announced start day, the site had no event running by that name. Later, I found out that refunds were given to other early respondents, except not to me. The creator told me via e-mail that I would get a refund by mail. I e-mailed my address to him, and he acknowledged receipt of same. No check has arrived. Promises, yes; check, no. No check.

Anybody expecting a "refund" should be aware that while you might be justified in getting one, while you might be promised one, and while you might even be assured again and again that it was indeed sent to you, you will not receive it. How do I know? It happened to me. I sent in $50, which cleared the bank, was assured that it was mailed back to me two months ago (before the data crash ever happened) and now all I get is promises, but no do-re-me: hear what I'm sayin? Felix is not impressed. Of course, I'll take it all back when the check arrives, but I'm not holding my breath. Usually, when I try to log on BrainKing is "temprarilly down" which should be stated otherwise, like, "most often down," or "normally down."

Mystery Man, to avoid a game being left on my game sheet as MY turn, I do a move, then click the 'offer draw' button before submitting the game. That way, the draw AND the game goes over to your opponent and you don't have to keep avoiding the game.

Im happy that the site went down because now i can get rid of the SLOW PLAYING PERSONS...and you know who you are:)
I would rather resign..if you dont accept my offer of a draw...than play with you :)

Emne: Re: Fencer, sir..
The draw button is working. When you choose to issue a draw then your opponent is given an opportunity to respond. That is why the games are still showing on your game sheet. After you ask for a draw your opponent has the option to accept or decline the draw.

Emne: Was Fencer Knighted?? LoL
No, but seriously, I must say Mystery Man, the 'Draw' system is working perfectly well. You see, all game sites (including ItsYourTurn) require you to Wait for your opponent to accept your 'draw' offer. Until such time, the game remains on your move, but you do not move, you wait (unless your opponent declines the offer).

I've almost got all my games in order, with just one person who I'm waiting to accept my draw offer. After that, everything should be back to 'normal'.

Although, there is the 'Books & Stories' DB business that calls for a bit of attention. But there's no rush. It's Fencer's B-day, he should party instead of work! :·)

I',m not sure if you'll be able to retrieve any of what was lost, but with the asumption that you can not, can you "install" a DELETE button (maybe only temporary) for those (me included) that do not wish to or want to "re-play" games that have already been played, so if we choose, we may delete these games without penalties..? (since the "draw" system doesn't seem to be working properly) Maybe this would put a smile on some of the.. maybe not angry, but unhappy faces..
Thank you Sir'Fencer.. :)

When one chooses to call for a "draw" to a game, clicks on draw, writes a message and then submits, WHY (when i get back to the main page) do i still have that game sitting there, waiting for "ME" to play..?? In fact, all the games i went in and asked for a draw are still on "my turn to play" side of the page and not the opponents side..
Can you please look into this..?? Thanx!!
