my 2 cents : if i cant play and i used up all my vacation days .. then i would not like it .. but i would accept it
i play for fun and ranking, but fun comes first, and i would miss playing on here if i wouldnt be able to login, but there are more important things in life
personally i would not like my opponent to hand over his game to someone else ... if the new player is much stronger and annihilates me with a short series of moves then it could spoil the game which might have been interesting with someone of an equal level as me .. if the new players is much weaker then it might spoil the game as well as there might not be the challenge which i expected .. and i wouldnt be able to learn from his moves (which i like to do while playing stronger opponents)
of course there is no 100% proof via which you can show someone is playing games for someone else :)
crosseyed: Who cares what is said in that fellowship. It's all just kids being kids, most of them having broken the rules and then just complaining when someone else does it... as it is not them and they are not the ones getting away with it.
Emne: Re: What happens if some goes into hospital suddenly?
crosseyed: If someone was that ill... why are they worrying about a few games on the internet.. are they not.. or as you said... "I only play for fun."
so why are you worrying if you lose a load of games?
Emne: Re: What happens if some goes into hospital suddenly?
(V): OMG. What if someone is too ill to use the internet? And not all hospitals have the internet.
If someone else made a move in a game with me I would not consider it cheating.
People take things far to seriously and need to lighten up a bit, afterall it only a game site. It's not life treatening if some else make a move on behalf of some one else.
My main reason for responding to the original post is people telling tales on others.
crosseyed: Unless the hospital has no internet there is no problem. From experience.. they do have internet as well as digital TV, so you can do your moves whilst on the ward.
It will cost you a few bob, but at least you won't (by the rules of this site) be cheating.
rod03801: Do you really think/believe everyone reads and agrees to the terms?
What I don't like is some arguing in the Flame Pit Fellowship and then going into another discussion board telling tales and trying to get someone into trouble or banned even.

rod03801: Well that has to be a man thing the need to win at everything. It could be you might get someone with less skills! I only play for fun. I don't take computer games seriously as it so bias anyway. The dice games are mainly luck. What happens if two people share an account?
I am due to go into hospital myself and I am trying to get through all my games. Also I am not taking on any more games. But there is chance I might not complete all my games because some people take so long to make moves.
crosseyed: That's not quite true. If I started a game with someone with a certain BKR, and a certain skill level at a certain game, I have the right to finish out that game with THAT person. Not someone whose skills may be twice that of the "real" person.

Artful Dodger: If people have paid for their membership then it their right to with it what they like with it. What happens if some goes into hospital suddenly? They might ask someone to make thier moves for them while they are in hospital. If they want to take the risk of letting someone use their account that is surely their problem and NOT your.
"You are NOT allowed to let other people use your account. If you believe someone has access to your account, immediately change the password on your profile page."
So what happens if someone is using someone else's account because that person has decided to take a break from BK?
Can a person give their password to another person to make their moves while they take some extended time off?
Seems to me that this is one dog that needs a short leash.
But in other checkers, all jumps are finished before the promotion happens!
E.g. official draughts rules: "4.15. Confirming article 3.5., a man who passes during a multiple capture, over a square of his opponent’s promotion row, but ends on another row, remains a man at the end of the capture. "
Or brainking's rules for Draughts: "However, if a pawn reaches the last row while jumping and can jump more pieces backwards, it does not promote and continues jumping as a pawn."
Turkish, Draughts (International), Canadian, Brazilian, Dameo all work that way - a piece jumps as much as it can and then gets promoted. (While English, Czech, Italian, Spanish / Portuguese, Thai doesn't allow backwards or side jumps, so a piece can never jump further once it reaches the king's row).
Only russian is an exception.
If Gothic is an exception too, I think it needs to be stated more clearly in the rules.
It is very weird to me as a multi-variant checkers players, to see a jump sequence aborted in the middle.
In my Gothic Checkers game ( Gothic Checkers (didero vs. mirari) ), I was expecting to be able to move 17... e5xg3xe1xc1 - but when entering the move, it stops upon reaching the king's row (after e5xg3xe1).
If this is the intended way for Gothic Checkers to work, the rules needs to be made clearer, as this is different from all other checkers variants I am familiar with - generally, either a piece is only crowned at the end of its move (after all possible jumps have been made), or, in the case of Russian checkers, is allowed to immediately continue jumping as a king - I can't think of any other variant where the piece's movement is halted while there are still available jumps to be done as a man.
MadMonkey: Actually it works but it only tries to find a game of the same team match. I know that's not the expected functionality. I will fix it next week, just leaving for a couple of days.
Pedro Martínez: Interesting. I always choose autopass, but I never pay attention to whether or not my opponent accepts it too. I kind of thought that it happened even with autopass on, but like I said, I wasn't paying attention. I will look into it from now on when it happens.
Anyway, I still think it is absurd even with 'no autopass" selected, to have to approve the dice of the first roll of the game. But then again, I have no idea why anyone wouldn't choose autopass to begin with. And as I stated in my previous post, as absurd as it is, this issue on the first roll is also just a very minor annoyance anyways....
happyjuggler0: If both players have agreed to use the autopass feature, the initial pair of dice is rolled automatically, and if the first player loses the roll, the “pass” occurs and it is actually the second player who gets to play first.
Vikings: With all due respect, that is asinine. Why should the software time someone out "for not rolling the dice" on the first roll of the game? It should be automatic since doubling the opponent is not an option. And if it is automatic, then having the player confirm that the dice were in fact rolled is absurd.
That said, if one were to rank this "bug" (I'm not even sure I would call it a bug, just a time wasting feature) on BK's site of 1-5, with 1 demanding immediate attention, and 5 being low priority, I would rank this problem somewhere around 250. It is annoying, but only in a "you can't be serious" kind of way.
I can think of many other things I'd rather have Fencer do to improve this site before I asked him to eliminate this pointless feature which does little more than waste a few seconds of player time every now and then.
thisbeme: The reason is that in order for the dice to come up as you lost the initial roll, you have to click on to that game otherwise you would time out for not rolling the dice
Why do I have to click move when I've lost the initial dice roll. Maybe we should have to click move when going 2nd at checkers and chess. The time spent on these games caused me to time out in games going on for months that I'd been enjoying. Clicking move when it isn't my move is asinine!!
Although the play later and the select game features now work correctly, I still can't "play and move to the next game" to the next game that has been played more recently. Moreover, the javascript list of games (from the red number next to the main page) still shows the first 30 games within a game page, but only shows the first 5 and then "..." in the main page. I know it maybe asking a lot, since some bugs had to be solved on the last days, but could this options be independently controled (before the update, I had my main page showing 5 games, but had 30 in the javascript menu)
Edit: It seems in the fora page, it also shows more than 5, so it may be a "main page" bug
beach: I suggest opening up enough tabs to see each 100 game page. Then you can see all of your games, and play whomever you choose. You may or may not need to refresh the page manually when you go back to an old tab.
Anyway, that is the best work-around that I can think of for your problem.
thanks fencer for making the main page work again, but I still cannot get to the 5 and 7 day games without having to call up different pages, I tried the game filter that option doesn't work to get me to see those games either any suggestions? Only way I see I could get to them easily is if the main page was able to be to set to a great number then 100 perhaps 500 would solve the problem just a thought
I did read the blog but...further to below...after I have moved I use the drop down menu to "choose" which game I want next (altho it doesnt show all gmes)...no way...it goes back to the top of the list ....HATE THIS...I want to play whom I want to play, when I want to play :(
Am wondering if that, in your tweaking of things, you could tweak it so that the Globals and Board mods lose their ability to use their moderating functions. Then, I can post a few mischievous things on the boards without the threat of trouble. Hmmmm, or just tweak things so that I alone an unmoderable (a new word - maybe it's unmoderatable ).
Off topic. Hmmm, there is no topic in this forum, so, er, um, nevermind.
Artful Dodger: The thing is, getting a refund doesn't mean that you got a great deal. You could still have paid through the nose. In reality the only thing that you know when you get a tax refund is that you screwed up and had too much deducted from your taxes, and you got screwed.
A. It will do little good. B. Things will improve in the long run. C. After things are improved, I'll be happy with the improvements and won't remember what I was upset over anyway. I have about a 2 days remembering system. Ask my wife. D. And I just finished my taxes and I had to pay. Lots.
Paying the government more money is a huge annoyance.
Emne: Re: I would like to the see the move to main page working again
beach: I totally agree with you : I also like to be able to see the list and not just automatically go to the next game. I also hope this function to come back.
Emne: Re: Sometimes I don't know why I even bother to write news and blog posts.
Fencer: Some people, like me, don't say anything but read them. All is clear for me and I think that this information was necessary so as to avoid to point bugs out.
