coan.net: Yeah, I noticed. This is good, since I was born without a memory. I need my games history to remember what was going on.

coan.net: Yep, this game is from that tournament...okay, so I guess the score is right but the games are just missing from the history. Strange mistake...I hope fencer gets on it soon.

Emne: Messed up match?
Can anyone explain the score in this match?  I'm playing a number of games against this opponent so I'm not sure but this score doesn't even look familiar and makes no sense based on the games history...

Emne: Re:
coan.net: Well said!! In support of this suggestion I am going to disable my autopass option until a better version is implemented. Anyone who doesn't like it should do the same, otherwise Fencer can say 'look how many people are using the autopass, they must like it'

Along with an autoplay idea, i would like to see the ability for the server to determine the single legal play for a given checker. This will eliminate the need for the Swap dice option in all but the cases where a single checker can use either die.

I'll add my support to this idea.

Emne: Re: Unrated Triple Gammon
nabla: This is a very interesting discussion. I have recently felt that my BKR quite exaggerates my actual skill. Have usually have trouble with players rated above 2250 yet my rating has grown to >2300. I try to play multi-point matches with most players but often end up playing games with much lower ranked players (2000 - 2200). These games boost my BKR over time even though I'm not playing any better. Losses against similarly ranked player don't decrease my BKR significantly and so, my ranking continues to grow.

Emne: Re: Scoring of timeouts
KotDB: Brainking assigns points based on the current state of the game when the timeout occurs. I think worst case scenario is not practical to calculate.

I'm pretty sure that the correct way to resign cube match game is to offer your resignation along with the number of points you are resigning. If you resign a single point to me but I think I can gammon you, then I reject your resignation and we keep playing. Brainking doesn't support this. If you resign you give up the number of points on the board.

This being the case, you should never resign a cube match game until you have borne off a least one checker, and then only after it is mathematically impossible for you to win.

Emne: Re: Anyone as sick of hearing me whine as i am of this crap???
Czuch Czuckers: Czuch, here's my two cents. I think you have to congratulate your opponent on this one. I have won many games playing this way. She set up a great home board, left two men back and played the odds. Dice being dice you can count on getting behind in about 50% of your games.

This said, I don't know why you resigned it. You had a least as good a chance as getting back on the board and off again before your opponent could finish as she had of rolling the lucky roll earlier. I would have played it out.

Czuch Czuckers: Here is what Jellyfish does:

Interesting results...

Jellyfish makes the same move but loses anyway...on the other side, jellyfish plays out the game.

If I set up the game with jellyfish making the alternate move (hitting two blots) the jellyfish opponent immediately doubles, clearly confident of the win. (Note that when jellyfish plays your side after the double blot hit, it rejects the double offer)

Seems you have made correct move, but you a likely to lose anyway. Good luck!

Wow.  I have no interest in this game at all.  Sorry Fencer (et.al.)  Other than being played on the same board, this game bears no resemblance to backgammon at all.

I think LionsLair has a great idea for a variant.  (I don't think you should limit doubles though).  This would make for an interesting game.  I think that instead of limiting doubles  you could do something else to benefit your opponent when you choose to play doubles.  (Perhaps your opponent would automatically get a doubles option on the remaining dice).

Gr☺uch☺: Thanks for the link (I was lazy) ...the tournament has started now.  If anyone else likes this torunament format I have another set to start Feb1.  If it is popular, I'll set one up each month.

The goals of the format are: Multi point cube matches with at least reasonably skilled players with a rating.  Interestingly I've found it very difficult to find these criteria in the tournaments set up by others...thoughts?

Emne: Re: A cure for the pain of losing
Had to jump on this one. I hate the 'gl' thing myself. Not because I don't wish my opponent well but mostly because I like to sit back in my chair with my feet on my desk and my hand on my mouse. When the dreaded 'gl' shows up, I now feel obligated to take my feet _off_ my desk, sit up and type 'u2'!

Now, my real pet peeve is the 15-20% of my opponents that have calcuated that they have indeed won the match and type 'gg'. Wait a minute! Shouldn't the loser congratulate the winner? Are you congratulating yourself or simply rubbing my face in it? I think I would prefer it if my opponent typed 'I WON I WON!!!'

Emne: illegal move?
I don't think I should have been allowed to move 6-4 4-off in this game since I could have moved 6-1 3-1 and used all seven points on the dice. However, the system did let me swap the dice and do 6-4, 4-off. Is this an error?
