I don't know if this was addressed already... but you don't want to try XP unless you have at least 64 MB of RAM. Even then, it is very slow - also MS recommends 300MHz processor or better. W2K might be a better option for older systems.

it's possible ... a bit twisted since 98 does not understand the bootloader of xp ...
easiest way is having two partitions on your harddisk, you got to install w98 first.
2 GB for 98 plus 5 GB for xp is about lower limit ... once xp is installed you'll be
able to manage further via Computer Management from within the Adminstrative Tools
(e.g. 3rd partition FAT-32 - keep in mind that w98 cannot read NTFS partitions by default) ... ~*~

I think the older puter.. wouldn't have enough space to put in the full version of XP.. from 98..

If your ME is an upgrade version from 98 then there is an uninstall in add remove programs. If it was a full installof ME then you have no other choice but to do a format, then install 98.

No there isn't, Andersp. My old PC had win98, and my new one has ME. I wanted to go back to 98 and got advice from a lot of people, who all said you have to completely remove ME to install an older version of windows. I've since got used to ME, and don't really find it much different than 98, and the system restore has come in handy a few times!

We have Windows 98 on another (this) computer and its far better, have no problems at all to use all those devices Scarlet mentions.
Beeing old enough to having used computers before Windows i remember a dos-file "autoexec.bat" where you "told" the PC how to start (paths).
My question is: If i install Windows 98 is there a way to "tell" the computer to use Win98 instead of WinME?

Emne: Re: Windows ME
when I ran windows ME, it was the worst windows I ever ran with the most crashes. Many people I knew also went back to 98 for better stability.
Now that I am running XP Professional (actually purchased my first real copy of any windows system) XP is the best I have run. But I would take 98 over ME anyday

Emne: Re: Windows ME
Why go back to win98..?? ME supposedly implements better capabilities than Windows 95 or 98 for applications that appeal more so for home users..

These applications include:

Playing Music
Storing Family Photos
Playing Games
and Accessing the Internet..

It also makes it easier to connect to all kinds of new devices such as..

Internet Cameras
Digital Cameras
Scanners
Read/Write CD-ROM Drives
TV Converters
and Specialized Printers for Color Photo Reproduction.

If any of this may apply to you.. or affect the outcome of software and hardware you currently use.. you might wish to reconsider..

Just a suggestion really.. not meant to control what your outcome is.. :)

Turned out the only way to go back to 98 was to totally reformat the HDD and reinstall from scratch.

Users can download a new build of Firefox, wait for the automatic update
to prompt you to upgrade, or install the XPI to upgrade it. Users are urged to
upgrade Firefox. The hole is not known to affect any other Mozilla applications.

I said for the longest time that I did not want to change either. IE was what I have alwaysed used, I knew how to use all of it's features, etc.. etc...

Now you could not pull me away from Firefox. Pages load faster, don't have to worry about pop ups or active X viruses, etc...

... and if you don't like it, you could always unistall it. PLUS it will not "replace" your current browser, it will just add a second browser option. (I currently have 5 different browsers on my computer.)

FireFox is what I use all the time. Netscape is what my wife uses so when we visit the same sites, our cookies don't mess things us. IE I still use occasionally. Then a couple others which I mostly just use to make sure my websites I create look good in all browsers.

... and Firefox is free!

Firefox is the way to go. I'm a long time IE user, loved IE, tried Netscape, Opera, etc... always went back to IE.

Firefox is great - Almost eleminated all pop ups (All pop ups?), has a great tab feature so you don't have to open a lot of windows, and it actually loads pages faster!

Emne: AT & T Universal card
Had this email today, wonder if anyone has any experience:

    *Dear ,

These days you can get everything you need online – including peace of mind – when you shop using Virtual Account Numbers.

Virtual Account Numbers is a free service for AT&T Universal Card members that gives you a substitute card number to use in place of your credit card number when you make a purchase online. This random number provides you with additional security.

It's easy to use: before every online purchase, you simply get a new number from Virtual Account Numbers to use at each new merchant. And activating this free service is easy, too:

    1. Sign on to Account Online at www.universalcard.com.

    2. Click on the Virtual Account Numbers link on the top right of the statement page and follow the simple steps.

Plus, you'll get these convenient features:

Choice of user mode: You can download and install Virtual Account Numbers on your computer, or access it on the web without having to download it.

Automatic Form Fill: With just one click, it automatically fills out the merchant's form with the Virtual Account Number and its expiration date, your shipping address and your billing address (only available on download version).

Adjustable Settings: Set the spending limit and expiration date for each new Virtual Account Number.

Recurring Payment Option: You have the flexibility to use a Virtual Account Number once or to use a Virtual Account Number for recurring payments for up to two years.

Here's how easy it is to use Virtual Account Numbers when you're ready to make a purchase at the "Check Out" page:

    1. Log in with your user name and password when the Virtual Account Numbers screen automatically pops up.

    2. Get a substitute credit card number for your online purchase.

    3. Enter your number into the merchant's form, set the Virtual Account Number expiration date, and you're done.

So for more secure shopping, sign on to Account Online at www.universalcard.com and start using Virtual Account Numbers today.

I haven't loaded anything new onto my computer. I've tried CTRL F5, right clicked on an image /show picture and again nothing.
