I take that back. You can edge the king over on the back rank with the queen until he's close enough to the king to force mate. I think.

LOL. because no force to the edge. I'm not convinced a king queen vs king is a forced win either for that matter.

i miss that more than anything, the old pawn protection from edge to edge. :)

since you moved already I think 18...Ba6 was best.

Indeed, since there are no edges, castling is not the same advantage. In fact the rooks start connected, so castling doesn't even achieve that.

There are really no center squares either so tactics are much different than regular chess.

oops, sorry. You're right I didn't look carefully enough at your numbers. This should be stalemate, but who knows how it would work.

There is no stalemate in Atomic Chess on this site. In your example white would be forced to move into check.

20. September 2004, 00:11:01

As I said, on this site that is impossible, KxQ would not be allowed.

The only rule that seems different at other sites is stalemate, which is impossible here. Anyway this wouldn't come under that category.

official rules? who knows if there are any. What would make them official?

I didn't understand what beating a figur is, but the king cannot capture anything on this site, therefore white wins.

You could create a rule that says if both kings are exploded it's a draw, but that isn't the case here.

In this particular position white wins since black cannot move next to the white king on this turn.
e.g.
... Kc4
Qd3 Kc5 etc...

Actually i think the data does dissappear from the database. Not sure why, but this happens for virtually every game.

This is a win in 3 for white I think. I won't say how though :)

that's strange. I seem to remember castling on one occasion, but it may have been another site. Doesn't happen often!

4. August 2004, 22:19:02

As far as I know castling is allowed.

Check and Checkmate make no sense so hardly need to be mentioned explicitely in the rules.

I can't think why the auto move isn't on in DC actually, since you can deduce everything anyway.

excellent.

In this case whoever is playing white should retire immediately. :)

This is certainly a draw. In some versions of AC capturing the enemy king with yours is a draw. I think this is a good implementation. However even with the current rules this is a draw. Silly play by black of course.

it's also private so the link is useless. What's the position?

how about dark pente? :)

Dark Atomic chess would be silly and usually finish in about 3-4 moves. Just my opinion, I like both but wouldn't play the combo.
:)

of course it is customary to resign after moving your king next to the opponents king! So i haven't actually had the pleasure of making the capture.

14. December 2003, 02:10:03

Indeed a king can take a king. Quite amusing it is as well! :)

14. December 2003, 00:32:52

There is no stalemate. Draws are only achieved by agreement. Even King against King can be played out if the players wish.

promoted and removed. So effectively it didn't matter.

Emne: Re: Queening a pawn
Funny thing is I captured a piece on the 8th rank with my pawn (thus destroying the pawn) and i was still asked which piece I wanted to promote to. :)

In the case where the checkmating piece could have been exploded I would recommend cancelling that game. The others are ok since the rules were applied correctly. I do like the current rules better, but i don't think the game has changed significantly enough to wipe out the history.

3. Marts 2003, 07:20:36

whisperz appears to be correct. This would seem to be a bug, even with the current rules.

27. Februar 2003, 15:16:28

i second that, checks and checkmates are silly in this game, unless check means any threat to blow up the king, even indirectly.

21. Februar 2003, 04:07:28
grenv
I think it's fine but just not enough. Further I don't think a king next to another king can be checkmate, since I could make any move and my opponent would not be able to capture my king without exploding his.

21. Februar 2003, 03:30:08
grenv
i still think checkmate is a silly concept in this game the way it is currently defined.

14. Februar 2003, 22:55:27
grenv
The concepts of check and checkmate aren't really consistant here. If they were, an attack on any piece sufficient to explode the king would be check.
In the case where one is in "checkmate" but can explode the opponents king, why not allow him to?
Why not treat this similarly to Dark Chess where any move is allowed?

Emne: strategy
Making moves that reveal the board is as important as a good chess position. Pawns are very important because of their ability to see a lot of the board when properly placed. Knights are great in forward positions to reveal the enemy defenses. Good luck everyone.
