Antje: If you timed out, you'd know. ;) You'd get a notice and the proof would be in that particular game. is it over and if yes, how did it end? It will say if you ran out of time.
ScarletRose: A record chess game between Nikolic - Arsovic (Belgrade 1989), with 269 moves.
Chess is infinite: There are 400 different positions after each player makes one move apiece. There are 72,084 positions after two moves apiece. There are 9+ million positions after three moves apiece. There are 288+ billion different possible positions after four moves apiece. There are more 40-move games on Level-1 than the number of electrons in our universe. There are more game-trees of Chess than the number of galaxies (100+ billion), and more openings, defences, gambits, etc. than the number of quarks in our universe!
The longest Chess game theoretically possible is 5,949 moves.
for more, see the fs ;)
It's unlikely that a chess game would go over 100 or even 75 for that matter. But I've played many games that neared the 75 mark.
Pioneer54: I'm still playing in a tourney that started:
24. November 2004, 06:05:17
I was a knight when I renewed but found I couldn't play in any tourneys. When I looked at all of the running tourneys I was no longer playing in but they were still running, I realised it would be months before I could even join any new ones. So I went to the rook membership.
You really have to plan carefully if you join a tourney. Even the 7 day tourneys can take a long long time. ;)
Bry: My guess is that your 21 day tourneys finish in about the same time a 7 day move tourney would. Generally speaking. There's always acceptions.
I just played in a backgammon tourney, can't remember the time controls, but I went to bed with no moves in any games, and woke up to having timed out in three of my games! whoah.
Andersp, I read what you wrote and I didn't read it as complaining. Yes mine is earned. But the 2200 may be short lived...the dreaded losing streak may be coming my way!
Teema: speculation = A hypothesis that has been formed by speculating or conjecturing (usually with little hard evidence)
I'd say that when someone tells you in a private fellowship that they ARE the QWERTY account, and then they send you a PM from the QWERTY, that is hardly speculation but is all the proof one needs. Unless of course you're not interested in getting at the truth.
I told you it's not a speculation. LJ told me and showed me he was using the QWERTY account. It's not my fault Fencer that you're too stubborn to believe the truth. Take it as friendly help
In tournament play (chess) we did have a time limit to complete so many moves in so much time. That way, you could spend more time on more difficult positions, less on the easier ones. Either way, the BBW suggestion or Walter's, it does seem to encourage more rapid play. For me, I don't join many tourneys that are over 5 days per move. I like the fast ones. I'd join more if the time setup was like one of these suggestions below. I've no opinion on which is better tho. Have to think on it.
Teema: I don't think it should be allowed to post the names of players with whom
you have a disagreement. Tournament directors set up the time limits. People have limited vacation days to use as they wish. It's none of our business to tell others how often they move.
If you want fast games, join BBW's tournaments. They start fast, the people move fast, and his tourneys attract like-minded people. Plus, BBW is always posting new tourneys. If you join a 30 day move limit tourney, you can't complain about how little people move. On with the games.
