More important things like autopass type feature for my battleboats variation game idea.

Fencer said on 26th August that a doubling cube is on the TO DO list but there are more important things he has to do first.

grenv: Actually, if the code is acting as intended, that is the exact definition of bug free code! Like Fencer said, just because it allows you to perform a move against the official rules of backgammon doesn't make it a bug - it makes it a missing or unimplemented feature or rule.

10. september 2004, 22:37:15
grenv
Would also need to double the points for a gammon and triple for a backgammon.

10. september 2004, 22:36:50
grenv
i indeed concur.

You could also implement in single games: Winning a doubled game could count as winning 2 games in the ratings.

Teema: Re: Request for backgammon.
You could use that cube in all backgammon variations. I am sure most backgammon enthusists would concer backgammon matches without a double cube is not really backgammon at all.

Agreed. It would add a bit more depth to Crowded Backgammon as well.

Teema: Re: Request for backgammon.
I think a doubling cube which has been asked about in the past would be a great addition to multiple game matches. Obviously in single game matches it makes no sense. I would be more inclined to play multiple game matches if the doubling cube was put into play here at brainking. It adds more strategy to backgammon matches as well.

Teema: Request for backgammon.
First off, this is a great site, as me being on just about every day will show.

I do, however think the backgammon variations could be improved by the addition of the doubling cube.

Any thoughts?

I respectfully disagree.

If the queen was able to move only like a king, would that be a bug or a missing feature?

Just because the code is behaving as the engineer meant it to doesn't mean there is no bug!!

10. september 2004, 20:11:52
Fencer
It's not a bug. Only a missing feature.

10. september 2004, 20:03:35
grenv
Please fix the bug where you are not forced to use the higher die in backgammon if both can't be used.

Also could you add it to the "Known bugs" tab?

thanks

Vikings toimetatud (9. september 2004, 02:58:42)
It's probably been brought up before, but, would it be possible to mark the pieces that have been knocked off to the bar differently than the ones that haven't been moved yet in crowded backgammon and gammon race? With multiple games it's hard to keep track of forced moves the other player may or may not have.

Its been like it since BK2 came out and has been brought up many times, sorry LJ you are slow once again ;oÞ

actually I kinda think it is cute and if left, it can sorta be classified a "feature"
I like it anyways, just thought I would let others know :)

8. september 2004, 06:50:09
Fencer
Then you should write it to Bug Tracker, it's not a feature request.
Anyway, it's a small detail :-)

I agree with BuilderQ. If you need time off use a vacation day, there are plenty of them for this purpose. For many people a day off may be a day more likely to be spent playing games ;)

Why can't players just choose their own holidays by assigning vacation days?

It seems to me that if every holiday, of every possible culture were to be "days off", then there wouldn't be many days that AREN'T holidays.
I believe other sites have stopped doing holidays, for this reason.
I think the only holiday that really impacts most cultures, is Christmas.

6. september 2004, 20:17:14

is the purpose to not count said holidays against game time?

Valid point myfanwy but as stated by Medic, without the use of bodylanguage how can one know for sure in which context something is to be taken?

I must have missed something because I thought Fencer's post was humourous.
"Please be patient as I have to be with you and your *you know what*."
The way I read it is that the *you know what* is refering to autopass...and, as everyone that reads this board knows, autopass is the 'dreaded word that shouldn't be mentioned'.

And of course, I've just mentioned it! C'est la vie.

I didnt think it was meant that way personally. Its one of those things that you dont have the advantage of body language and voice inflection to give the mood of the sentence.

I think the point is that anyone has a right to their opinion, and can state such opinion (as long as within the rules of the site), but that does not mean the Fencer or anyone else will share that opinion, no matter how much you support the site. (if that is where you are trying to go with it.)

One other point I would like to make on the subject and that is I have two prize tourneys running at the moment with three years of rook membership up for grabs. I feel that does give me the right to state my opinion.
