Teema: Re: Largely ignored by the mainstream, but pure genius
TexasToest: The White Stripes is one of my favorite bands. They are odd but they're great performers. I saw them a couple of summers ago and that show ranks in my top 5 of all time.
I listen to all sorts of music, but I have 6 that I listen to consistently in the car: Antigone Rising, the White Stripes, the Pixies, Pink, the Beatles and the Dixie Chicks.
My new favorite band is Antigone Rising. I'd been familiar with them since about 2000, but I saw them play last weekend and I never realized just how awesome they are.
I bought the new Dixie Chicks CD a few days after it was released, but for some reason put it aside and didn't open it until this week. It's so good I can't stand to take it out of the CD player. I just dropped $125 on two tickets to see them in December! I haven't seen them since Lilith Fair in 1999 and I can't wait.
Also, I don't think I will ever fully get into this downloading music thing. I do download songs when there are only one or two from an album that I want, but if I want the whole album, I'll definitely buy the actual CD. There's just something about opening a new CD, looking at the cover art and studying the liner notes that's just heaven to me.
Not trying to butt in or get involved in this, but what does having a brain crammed with useless trivia have to do with being able to love and appreciate music?
XM is great! I've only had it for a month but I couldn't imagine my life without it. When I'm not listening to talk and news or Reds baseball, I listen to mostly the rock stations - Fred and XM Cafe in particular. The Starbucks Hear Music station is also great, as is the U-Pop station.
Tuesday: Yes, she was blonde. It was right after Fly came out.
(The song Let Him Fly on that album was written and first recorded by one of my all-time favorites, Patty Griffin. That's definitely part of what first really drew me to the Dixie Chicks.)
Tuesday: I'm so happy to hear they have a new album coming out. I'm not a big fan of country music but I've loved them since I saw their great performance at Lilith Fair a few years ago.
