SL-Mark: I also looked for the probable value of the site. From France, I don't find the same value (of course : Brainking isn't known in France). Here's the result : http://www.estimasite.com/brainking.com
And you can see on the graph that the value of the site decreases.
ketchuplover: Yes, the number of members is steady but several paying members, as me, aren't very active, and I'm not sure to renew my subscription, and not for a question of money, because I can pay.
The price of a website mainly depends on the number of visitors per month. Actually, I think that the paying members decrease on Brainking, so the price of the site decreases too, so to make an offer is difficult.
Does someone play with the application Brainking on Android ? I don't find it on Apple. Is it better ? Do you find the same games ? Question to Fencer : Will the application replace this site in the future ?
Bernice: Yes, sometimes little problems appear, but for myself, each time I had a problem and told it to Fencer, he repaired it very rapidly. I always had an answer to my request. What kind of problems do you have ? I agree with you : if you pay, it must work.
Wouah ! Surprised to see a so livened up board today. Me, I like to read all your comments, whatever is your position. I just want, for the 1st day of the year, to send my best wishes, health, success... Happy new year to everyone !
I'm ok with Brian, I'd like to see this site evolving a little. Speaking about how much it could cost, I must admit I don't know. I think by saying this I'm not arrogant with Fencer, I just say what I'd like and if Fencer reads these words, he has an idea what people want. It's also true that without ads, it's more easy to play, we aren't disturbed. And also, who would agree to see the subscription increasing ? It's an interesting debat. About the price, we have, in France, other interesting sites with a suscription less expensive I'm here more for the friends than for the games.
Fencer: How it works ? I mean : if I ban someone, I can't sign up for a tournament he has already joined ? And, on the contrary, if i sign up for a tournament, and then this person wants to join it : in this case, is this person blocked ? And if he is, does he know why ? Is it written somewhere ?
Bwild: Yes, I succeed in doing it with friends but sometimes, I've enough to ask this. And friends often say yes because they are kind with me, but they can be bad players and do not like the game. We come back to what Purple said : people try to keep their rating the most higher possible, so a neutral program for training would be great.
Bwild: Yes, the variants are very . I just regret that here, we don't have a programme for people who want discover a game or else practise. I'm sure I would play more games, especially variants of checkers.
Purple: I agree, it's not fair from him to reject a game with you, but I think we must not impose an opponent on someone : he must be free to play with you or not. Nobody is dupe ; we often see, here, people who aren't fair (example : people who send an invitation to someone else just for raising their BKR). Me, I look at my rating, just to see the games where I have to progress, and just to have an idea, but I don't want to be prisoner of this rating, I don't forget that, 1st, I'm here for fun.
When the number of players increases, the number of winners goes down. Of course, it's more difficult to win a tournament with a big number of players, and I think that this result has more value.
Aganju: I don't totally agree when you say that we can catch a multi nick with the comparison of the IP address, because it can happen that several members of a same family play with the same PC and don't cheat. Example : one of the member of the family makes his moves and when he has finished, the other one logs on the site and plays, and each one has his own nick. It happens with teenagers who don't have enough money to get their own PC.

Artful Dodger: I've got the red one today. Yesss. I wonder if I can use a color for someone else; I mean to pay something to someone else with the color on my page ?
Gabriel Almeida: Yes, I agree, it's a good spirit. But I think that some members with " little " subscriptions as a bishop for example are about in the same situation as a pawn (they often have difficulties to pay their membership) so, for me, we could offer something to these persons too. I think that your idea should be developed.
Gabriel Almeida: And, in the team, who will pay the subscription of the pawn ? The captain ? Or each member of the team will give a little money ? I think that this offer (very nice for a pawn) can block people who have difficulties to pay their own subscription. As it's something about money, it can be discriminatory for people having little means (I think to a student or a unemployed person, for example). Sorry to tell you this, because I see that your intentions are good.
Marshmud: I like your reply full of respect (thank you !). I totally agree with you when you say : " I have been asked "Why are you not joining my tournaments" so should I lie or tell them the truth ? " : of course, you have to tell the truth, I would do the same. But you make me think to something : the player you are talking about (********) is in my fellowship and you also. If tomorrow, you tell me " I don't want to join your tournaments because he plays too slowly ", I must admit that it will be for me a moral dilemma ; on one side, I'd like to satisfy your request (because I appreciate you very much) and on the other side, it would be very difficult for me to punish someone who did nothing beyond the rules of the site. Yes, you're right, I don't see you complaining (not to me, that's is sure ). In fact, my reply wasn't about a particular player but a general thought about moves and time.
Artful Dodger: I agree with you because my reply would be the same to such a poll : 3 days (1st) then 5 days (2nd). I can't blame someone who makes his moves in the last minute, because I often play my games on the last day, because of a lack of time for playing but not for annoying people. This doesn't shock me because, on the main page, I always hide the part " Opponent's turn in games ", so I never care about slow or fast players. I can't imagine what represents 1000 games because I've already difficulties when I play 150. But everyone is different : me, I don't have enough time to play because I work but here, there are people who stay at home (don't work or on retirement), so why couldn't they play more games than me ? And, as I said before, the number of games isn't significant, example : for the same time I can do 5 moves for Ludo while I do 1 move for Chess.
Gabriel Almeida: I try to do the same (to clean my main page) but it depends a lot on the games you play. For example, it's more easy to clean games as Ludo and backgammon than games as Chess or some variants of Chess. Me, I also try to play " easy " games first (I mean games which don't need to think a lot, as Ludo). And games aren't the only thing we can appreciate on this site : I like to talk with people too (I know, I'm talkative ) on private messages and boards.
I think that slow players can be a problem for players having a limit for games as pawns, bishops or knights. Before being a rook, I was a knight and very often I was blocked because tournaments weren't finished because of slow players. It's the reason why I'm a rook now.
Nevertheless, I think that we can't blame a slow player when he uses the rules of the website, and I don't agree with a blocking on the games. If people want to play rapidly, they have the possibility to choose tournaments with a little limit (1 day for example).
Marshmud : I don't agree with you (sorry) when you say " I suggest those who are upset is to just not join tournaments you are part of, and explain to the BB of said fellowship and explain why you won't play " ; I think that a best behaviour would be to ask to the Big Boss of the fellowship to create tournaments with a fast limit.
From my side, I think that I'm rather medium for the speed and I try to make an effort about this but it's sometimes difficult not to join a tournament when a friend tells you that players are missing, or else when someone celebrates his (her) birthday with a tournament. Moreover, team tournaments begin without your choice when you're not the captain of the team. The consequence is that sometimes I've too many games, so I play slowly. In these moments, I wouldn't like that someone send me a private and rude message asking me to play more rapidly.
I totally agree with Rod when he says " People need to realize they may get better results by being nice. ". When a nice player tells me very kindly that he likes to play rapidly (I think to you Gabriel Almeida ), I do my best to play his games very rapidly, but I must admit that I'm a little frustrated when the game finishes too rapidly !
