if it's something real bad, you might send a PM to Fencer

In fact, if people acted the same way outside of the web as they do here, half of them would be locked up.

AbigailII:  I'm interested to know whether you adopt the same approach to your interactions with people off the web -- do you ignore body language, facial expression, tone of voice, etc.?  I believe smileys are intended to substitute for those nonverbal cues that convey so much of our meaning (as much as 90%, according to some authorities).  I'm sure most people would agree that a great deal of information can be conveyed by a wink!

If one can't be bothered to use words in a post, I can't be bothered to read them.

I've a suggestion for smiley settings. Currently, the options are either smileys or numbers. My proposal is a three state switch: smileys, numbers, and no smileys. The latter would neither show smileys, nor numbers.

Oh, and a setting "ignore posts with more smileys than words" would be great as well.

pauloaguia: I always check my games before I send it as I posted in my message. I am on webtv so at first I thought it was maybe something with that... but since it happened about 5 times I got to wondering why? I don't have the games, becauseI played them. When I get another one I will report it there.
Thanks. You too Maxxina.

Pbarb2: Post a bug in the bug tracker with links to specific games and move numbers. Then Fencer may take a closer look.

Do you usually click on it before the page is completely loaded? And do you usually check the page before submiting the move to make sure that it was played where you intended it to? Sometimes, elements in the page may shift position while the page is being loaded, and you can click on one place that suddenly becomes some place else, and you end up making a move you didn't intend to. That's why you should always check the move before actually submiting.
Not sure if this is your case, but it's a frequent situation forsome users...

Subject: Another Question????
I have been playing the dice games. I am getting 0's where I don't place them. They are coming right in the beginning of my games. No reason not to fill a space. I look at each game before I send it. Is anyone having this problem? This has just happened in the last
few weeks. I know that I place 0's when no other move can be made...but this is not that type of move. I just had this happen on my 5th game.
Thanks.. if anyone can help me in this.

of course it is (maybe this is a bit too ask from some people though ;)) intended that the posters think thoroughly if a message is important enough before posting it here ;)

lets continue as it was before the messages about the turkish checkers rules, as that was clearly spam on all boards

Eriisa: One post? Why do you think it will be restricted to one post? Do you think the proposed rule change for Turkish checkers was the very first time a rule change was suggested? And that it never happens again? Furthermore, your suggestion was to, and I quote you:

if there is a hot topic running on the board, that a general notice could be posted on here so that non-readers of a category board could know about it.

That to me doesn't suggest ONE post. It suggest that anytime someone thinks there's a "hot topic" running on a board, it's fine to post messages pointing to the topic on other boards.

And yes, a game is a feature. What do you imply with that? That all the postings on the dozens of boards dealing with the various games should be made here? Including the posts of the board you no longer wish to read (the Ludo board)? And I guess the "Feature requests" board is redundant as well.

Why not just cancel all the other boards, and just post everything here? It's all happening on "brainking.com" anyway....

AbigailII: I am not saying Spam the boards! This is the BrainKing board to discuss its structure, features and future.

Is not a game a feature? I don't have time to read every board on the site so all I was saying is an announcement here that a discussion about the rules on a game on another board is not totally out of line.

Now a 2 week discussion about whether a ONE POST announcement should be allowed is becoming just a bit over the top. So I will not say anymore about it.

AbigailII
Subject: Re: new board ?
Eriisa: Eh, no, that doesn't make sense at all. Then all the boards would be cluttered with message "Hot topic on board XXX!".

If you want to know about threads on the Ludo board, you should read it (or view the RSS view). I'm not interested in many boards, but I am interested in this board. However, if this board would be cluttered with messages about hot topics on other boards, then I would no longer read this board. And then when there's a hot topic on this board, you would have to post it on the other boards so I can learn about them....

Subject: Re: new board ?
Hrqls: That's like I love playing Ludo but I never go to the Ludo Board (anymore, that is). So it would make sense to me, that if there is a hot topic running on the board, that a general notice could be posted on here so that non-readers of a category board could know about it.

In the Turkish Checkers situation, I assumed that would happen. So in that case, Hrqls re-directing the conversation to the Turkish Board is an expected move.

(the dutch word 'lol' means 'fun' :))

i think there might be too many boards already .. personally i am perfectly fine with a board per game type or as it is right now

people who liked the discussion about the rules of turkish checkers though didnt find it on the checkers board so i assumed they might want to have a separate board for discussions about game rules, as i think thats more important than the ordinary chats about the games on those boards, but i guess they dont need it either :)

Subject: Re: new board ?
Hrqls: Ya, it is a categorical question to me too. For example: If I want to search for the word extrapolate on BrainKing, I'll soon have the idea to suggest to create a board exclusively for the word extrapolate. That way I wont have to invest a lot of time to find the word. With the possibilities of today (you know, hyperlink and stuff), everyone could choose the order he likes. I personaly would favorize the opption to have boards for each single word, that means a wordboard for the word "word". A thatboard for the word "that". A thatboardboard for the word "thatboard", and so on. Do you think that makes sence? The basics of Internet can put all in each favorized order. ...?

i admit that gamerules of games on brainking are in a grey area wether they belong more on the game board itself or on the board for the specific game .. after all the posts about turkish checkers on all boards i had to direct it to the appropriate board and hope something like this wont happen again in the future :)
