Fencer: You misunderstand what I'm saying....
example....
Stevie directs me to his scooby site...I go look...no probs.....In the past when I hit the back button to come back to BK it came back to Stevie's posted link....now it doesnt it comes back to the top of the current page for that DB or F/s...which mean i have to scroll down to find the link again.....all the RED NEW have gone so I cant use that to navigate either, and if there has been a couple hundred posts it makes it even harder....I hope Im not confusing thing :(
BerniceC: Option-click on links like that so that your window with the DB discussion on it stays intact. Then you don't need to go back, just close the other window when you're done and you'll be right where you left off.
Thad: the pages open in the same place because most people do not know about the target="_blank"> html option....
Stevies link all open in place of the BK page...and so do most other links posted by MEMBERS...therefore...ggggrgrrrrrrrrr.... you HAVE to use the back button.
How often do I have to say the same thing over and over.....isnt my english any good....Can some one with a knowledge of HTML please enlighten someone on here....It might even be me...I can send you to my graphics site and you can stay there forever while you surf the different categories with out using the back button.....THIS is what im talking about....:(
BerniceC: Sorry, let me try to explain what I meant before a little better...
When you click on a link from a discussion board, hold down the option key (or whatever the proper key is), so that the link you've just clicked on opens in a new window (like having the target="_blank" tag, even when there isn't one). Won't that solve the problem you have?
Thad: Thank you and Harley as well....HTML i am familiar with but PC short cuts i have never been interested in before...thanks...Im sorry Fencer if i have caused you stress in your terribly busy life:( this is one thing fixed...for me at least :)
I generally open in new window now. But Most of the time till recently Ive just clicked links...then used back button. It always seemed to work the way that Bernice would like it to for me :oD But not done recently..so dont know if it doesnt work now
Subject:ONE YEAR Rook Membership Contest......! Part-II
Well since last time nobody succedded, i will increase the prize..... So here is your chance to win a one year membership here, with a lot of effort of course........
The first one who will post at
Gothic Chess discussion board and only there, the correct answers to the above 4 questions, will win a 1 year Rook membership...........
***If there are no answers or any correct one until 10/02/2005, there will be no winner.......
***If someone posts more than 1 answer, then the accepted one, will be ONLY his last one. That means even if someone posts a correct answer before everyone, but posts another one later, not correct this time, he would not win as the accepted answer will be the last one. Even if anyone else hasn't answered correctly.......
***In the extremely rare case when there will be 2 or more correct answers at the exactly same time, the winner will be the one whose post will appear first at the Gothic Chess discussion board.
***I will post if there is a winner or not at 10/02/2005.
Subject: Re: ONE YEAR Rook Membership Contest......! Part-II
Chessmaster1000: This doesnt relate to the general Brainking population. Most/many of us have no idea what gothic chess is, much less able to answer some unique problem related to the game. Maybe you could offer a contest that is more appropriate to the whole Brainking population, or keep it to the chess/gothic chess boards only :)
Subject: Re: ONE YEAR Rook Membership Contest......! Part-II
Czuch Chuckers:
1) Similarly you could say not all feature requests are related to BK as they deal with various games that we do not even know
2) It is only Chessmaster's business what kind of contest he offers
3) The contest is a good thing for the site and the players too, perhaps and opportunity to start studying gothic chess for some and to have the biggest impact it should be posted here not only because
4) it is just ONE post
I had to respond because I think your critique is very unfair.
well, i agree with chuck, as it is highly unlikely that anyone will get this correct who does not play chess.
therefore i can see why it maybe a better idea to post it in teh chess secion of discussion boards
But at least this way it gives everyone the option and oppurtunity.. for those that wouldn't normally look at the chess db's. The prize may be an incentive for some to get interested in it, and as pafl said, it was only one post
Antje: LOl! don't be too picky. Yes, that's it and I still can't see the site. There must be something there that the blocking system in Iran has discovered is not 'good' for me to see!
In anycase, thanks for the reply. I bet right now a moderator comes and says : OFF TOPIC
Actually angelfire is a set of "free websites" which anyone can go and set up a website for free - so you can guess many "bad" sites have been made in the past - which is why I would guess someone in Iran just blocked "all angelfire" sites to be safe.
ScarletRose: Sorry. I was offline when you posted this. Yes, could be because of that.
Whatever they're using it's quite strong in blocking the sites. I don't know weather it is sensitive to words related to sexual cases or just knows what sites are related to that. I suppose it must be the first one since it's hard to feed the system with ALL site names related to sexuality.
Its not really censorship, Czuch. Just keeping boards in order, keeping information & questions in the right places. Its a time saver for people wanting to know about certain subjects. If you had a question about computers, imagine how frustrating it would be to scroll through dozens of feature requests or tournament news. Keeping things to the correct boards helps everyone.
harley: Sorry Harley, I know, its hard to tell, but I was just joking around, you do a great job! (whoops sorry off topic, there must be a board for compliments?)
Who is Bry and why you will take an interview from him....? Is he, any popular person behind the "Bry"....???(Michael Jordan perhaps.
I don't understand the whole interview thing?!?!
Chessmaster - Bry is a global moderator, and as such was chosen to be interviewed. Its just a way of getting to know people here on BrainKing. Its fun, and everyone can get involved by sending in questions.
Chessmaster1000: To find out what these interviews are all about just follow the link that says Interviews! at the top of this page where you'll find previous interviews...
(hide) If you want to find an opponent with similar playing skills to your own look in the Ratings page of the type of game you want and find a player with a similar BKR. (pauloaguia) (show all tips)
