As I am a paying member who only plays chess, can we please add dice to the game so that I too may have an unfair advantage! Oooops, off to the feature request board... :-)

Paying members are able to play more games, giving them more rolls, giving them more doubles. But on average, it all works out.

Reminds me of a person who was complaining about this same thing months ago..... and he complained while that the dice were against him, yet he had a 2000+ rating!

(But if you really thin paying members get better dice - send in your $$ to Fencer now to upgrade your membership!) <wink wink>

might be 35 to 1 odds but that is only for a particular double. The odds are still 1 in 6 of rolling "a" double

I'm not going to answer such ridiculous questions again. Read the backgammon rules. Is there anything about paying members?

the odds of rolling any double are 35 to 1

1 in 6 chance of rolling a double.
That suggests they should appear very regularly, lets say, ummmmmm, approx once every 6 rolls.

I used to think these sorta things happened too until I really took a good look back and realized that it was truly random.

Remember also, random does not mean evenly distributed at all times, random also means that clusters will occasionally occur too.

OK I will repost my ON topic post then, and say that my last comment was on topic too, because I was asking something would not be used on BK anymore.

Previous post:--
I know this has been asked before, but is there any reality over this more doubles for paying members in backgammon?

Ive been watching some of my games recently and it does seem to happen.

actually, as far as handyman status goes, I got me 10 thumbbs here.
I would probably cut them off handling scissors.

I played mrloupcity in a battleboats tournament once. THough the game took a long time to complete, I understand that I was not the only player he was playing and that he has a family to spend time with, friends to do things with, and ajob to pay the bills. Most of us have a life away from brainking and the internet in general. Those who live hear morning, noon, and night I suggest you go outside and see the sun, the moon, the stars. Heck there is a big world out there to see in person, and not just on a computer.

Now one here can tell you how fast or slow to play. If the game has a 5 day time limit, then you have 5 days to move, and nobody can tell you any different. If someone want's you to move real fast, then they need to go to yahoo or msn and play real time games. This is a turned based gaming site and that's how it runs.

7. April 2004, 11:46:24

lol , like i said ..no matter how people play ,theres always someone who doesnt like your play ;)

Believe it or not, sometimes the faster players irritate me (but just a little). If they'd just take more of the time limit to make their moves, I could get through more of my games. ;)

mrloupcity , play at your own speed ,fast or slow there is no need to race to get a game finished ..they finish when they finish , if people complain about you moving slow it is THEM that is in the wrong tournaments not you

i have some games that have been running almost 14 months now and could take at least another 6 months lol ...... im a speed player when i get my finger out but there are days when i dont feel like it .
you cant make everyone happy lol

mrloupcity, don't you dare let people bully you into not playing in tournaments! If you want to play slow, that's up to you not other people.
I've played you a few times and it's always been a pleasure and you've never played slowly.

Could you move this to the tablut discussion board please?

5. April 2004, 16:02:13
WhisperzQ
I think the draw is a valid result. In chess, for instance, there are the three conditions for a draw ... stalemate, thrice-repeated board postions and 50 moves (plus an agreed draw). All are situations where the player who might win should be able to control the play to ensure that the draw does not occur; if they do not, then they do not deserve to win. And so, I think, it should be here. This also ties in with an earlier discussion on the advantage white appears to have in this game and one proposal was touted whereby white could not repeat a move (maybe should be board position?) to generate "perpetual check". Again, I have not found this rule on any other sites, did Linnaeus included something on this?

I think the play by white in this game was quite clever to get to the end position once it was obvious they could not escape (or maybe they were just lucky?!). The more important issue is the game was played under one set of rules and decided by another. This is not the first time rules on this site have been changed mid(post)-game. While you say the King was clearly captured, in terms of the capture rule this is not so and moving into a beavy of defenders is part of the tactics of the game, so why should it change just at the end?

I think they're in Murray's History of Board Games other than Chess. Why do you think a game like Lythande's should be drawn? The king has clearly been captured.

Linnaeus himself in his original record of the rules says a win if the king cant move. I agree that the king could move into that position as long as it had the possibility of leaving.
