Fencers choice :o) I thought Kevin is a great choice too, I'm looking forward to putting in my own questions for him! (Like how does he always beat me at spider line 4!)

Great choice harley. Amazing young man, some will be shocked at his age.

Oh, you're right, Rogue Lion! I did pass it along to Fencer, he musn't have got around to putting it at BrainKing.info yet. I'm sure it will be there soon.

In the meantime.... please send me your questions for KEVIN!! This hard-working youngster has done wonders for BrainKing. I can think of a dozen or so questions I'd like to ask him!

Subject: Re: moves - most active player list
rhiannon - its when you hit the 'move and go to...' button that it counts as a move. So its just counted as one move.

In backgammon, what counts as a move for this list? I mean you normally move two counters so is that two separate moves or counted as just one?

I agree, this game is not balanced!
But if you play it with the regular chesset and with a maharajah instead of a queen it can be interesting.

it would be even simpler if the system selected a white move at random, and with about the same result.

are there still suckers to play white for maharajah? I would have thought that by now everyone is aware that white always loses this game - I guess that's why he's represented as a pigeon :)

23. March 2004, 16:15:52
coan.net
... it's like Maharajah Chess when you are white - I mean you KNOW which piece you are going to move, yet you have to go through an extra move to click on that piece to indecate that you are going to be moving it.

(wouldn't it be more easy - and less page hits for the server - if the white pieces was automaticly "highlighted" and ready to move)

What pleasure do those sad anoraks get by playing on to the very end, even when they have no way of winning. Mind you, I cheer when they throw a double 6.

I rather liked that feature.. Don't have to always have the same standard
bw

start. It can make a difference. And you have to pick your opening moves in chess/checkers/salvo/etc do you not? What's the difference here? I think any of the games need to get underway before they can get 'exciting'.

why do we have to go thru the boring process of picking our first 2 moves....is there not a proggy that can do this? i find these games are a bit NON everything when this has to happen....love the game, just dont like the start??

Subject: re: stuff
I think the ignore list should prevent you from reading any messages posted or pm'd by them. You would not see messages in games from them, but any games you were currently in them with would otherwise continue until either won or resigned by either party.

After that, they would not see your games in the 'waiting' list nor you theirs. If you and they were in the same tournament, your chances of getting paired with them should not change, so if you wish to avoid it, you'd have to avoid the same tournaments. However, even in these games, you'd only have to play, not talk. Might be incentive to hurry up and play those games to get them over with. ;)

/ignore is a useful feature. "You [edited]because..." just adds fuel to small fires. *edit* turns bonfires into signal fires

plonker/plonkee *grins* Sorry.. usenet throwback. :)

What does anyone care why you put them on your enemie list? If you dont want to see messages from them, why then would they care to see a message from you, especially one that tells them that you thought they were derogetory, or some other personal opinion of yours?

AH YES, but then.....if you dont play the top players...you would never BE a top player...takes away a certain cheating element as well :)

22. March 2004, 09:37:00

I understand, Bernice, but with what you suggest you would get the situation whereby a player could avoid all of the top players in a tournament simply by putting them on their ignore list.

22. March 2004, 09:22:34
Bernice
i still stick with what Ughaibu said...if I dont like you, i can put you on my enemy list BUT...i must say why.....example :- "sorry but you posted something derogative about me and I dont wish to speak to you again...no games either"

Now I would point out at this time that "a member" had a tournament going and I informed him of the fact that if i was placed up against a certain person I would resign the game and not even attempt to play it... this person was already on my ignore list.....
surely there is an option or a code that could keep "ignored" people away from the people that want to be "ignored"???
god im sounding like i dont know what im talking about LOLOL....prolly dont hehehehe
does anybody understand me ?

22. March 2004, 09:03:02
cariad
So the person placed on an ignore/enemies list is the 'plonkee' and the person doing the placing is the 'plonker'? :)

Lythande, are you proposing that anyone you place on your ignore list have ALL their posts hidden from you, over ALL boards, andnot just personal and games messages?

This deserves to go over to 'Feature Requests'.

Subject: Re:
Although an interesting question in re Fencer, I disagree completely with reasons and a copy sent the plonkee. It goes along with the other suggestion I agree with, which is to change the name of that list to 'ignore' list. Sometimes you just want to read a board without having to scuffle through the 47 posts of someone saying the same thing over and over. You don't want to make them feel bad, and you don't have any intentions of leaving them on the list. You just want to ignore them for a while. Silently dropping them on a list is a lot less painful than saying, "Okay, you're an enemy and here's why."

I just noticed I'm on someone's enemy list, of course I could be on dozens but how would I know? anyway, I thought it might be fun to ask that person "why?" but how can I do so if I dont know if they're online or where they are and I cant message them. It got me thinking about the whole enemy environment. It would be convenient if a person when putting someone on their list had to state reasons and a copy was sent to the "enemy".
