Buckwheat, one final time. The problem is being addressed and will be sorted soon. Posting numerous messages complaining will not get it fixed any faster and will only slow Fencer down because he has to read your posts before he starts work. If you really must gripe take it to the general chat board where we can tell you in detail why you shouldn't complain so much.
This board is for posts about BrainKing, "structure, features and future", not multiple posts about a bug we already know about.

I may have temporarily lost the ability to delete but I still have a 'ban' button in working order. Please dont make me use it. Sensible questions about this will be answered, complaints with attitude wont be. Thank you.

As you may have read other places, try running your own site. When you encounter a problem, wave your magic wand and *poof* the problem is fixed! If you get good at waving that wand, you might get a lot of problems fixed!

In case you didn't get the hint, it's really not that easy to just magically fix every problem. Especially since, as noted on Brainking.info, this connectivity problem is not the fault of Fencer nor Liquid. It is their service provider. So it certainly won't help to harp them about it when it isn't even in their control.

Secondly, posting your message with the same complaints numerous times is not going to help your cause. If people saw it the first time and nothing happened, why would something happen this time? Are your posts about "Boo hoo, the site is slow and doesn't let me in. Boo hoo" going to help the site run better?

In addition, I notice the picture of a pawn beside your name. This would imply that you are a non-paying member. Considering you are not satisfied with the site's performance (Just a guess - you certainly didn't make that obvious!), that is a good enough reason so please don't bring it up. However, being a non-paying member, you again are not helping the cause of the connectivity and speed problems. The more paying members, the faster and better hardware the site can get.

Finally, if you would notice, the site is not sponsoring the tournament. The tournament is held by GothicChessPro (Ed Trice) and such is covering the prizes. This money is not coming from the site, so please don't complain about it.

Thank you for listening, and happy gaming.

Kevin

I agree with WOLF. This site runs just fine at least 95% of the time. I dont play chess but the tournament prize of 250 bucks is a lot of money for a new game site. Heck it is a lot cash for any game site. Where else can you play a tournament for some cash and prizes with no entry fee. Something like that could get the word out and encourage more people to the site and get more memberships. Afterall you have to have enough empty slots to get into the tournament.

i can see my questions fell on deft ears....they say say don't shoot the messenger but it seems like that's what happens......if you know the sites screwed up...why don't you fix it..???...instead it sounds like all you wanted to do was look at my win/loss record and try to read something into it....read what you want boys.....i won every game....and i lost every game...myself....you can play your little chess tourney and think $250 is ...oh my...what a grrreat amount of money....HaHaHa....why not spend the money on fixing the site..!!!!.....or would that be unusual behavior....seems like it would benifit more than 5000 people that way...

Question for Fencer: Do you try to keep track of people who make multiply accounts and try to cheat?

I mean for the most part, it probable isn't a big deal - but with a $250 Gothic Chess tournament, I would guess there would be at least a couple of people who try to make 2-3-more? accounts to give them more of a chance to win.

Anyway, I was just wondering if you were watching for this or not - I don't know of anyone off hand, but I wouldn't be surprised if there weren't at least a couple of people who will try this.....

Fencer, I haven't deleted anything in months, and I only tried last night because Blaze requested I delete her message! Typical isn't it, you dont do it for ages and when you do it messes up! But no, I wont delete anything. :o)

Pipilo, I'm sorry :o(
I assumed only one message has gone, but yes, I DO remember your message about agreeing with Dmitri, and TT agreeing too, no WONDER the system has messed up with you lot agreeing on something!! LOL!

Buckwheat, they problem is being addressed. As has been pointed out, Fencer is an extremely busy man, trying to run this site and juggle a lot of other things too.
These problems WILL be fixed, we just have to be patient. I think you'll agree its worth the wait?

I remember saying something about how I agreed with Dmitri AND with TTJazz, (yes, I know, it's shocking) and wondering if this rare occurrence might have something to do with the fact that we're approaching our second new moon of the month (is that the opposite of a blue moon?). I'm an addict too, so I understand Dmitri completely... this time, anyway. LOL

If that's a problem, you can always highlight the whole of the text you typed and hit "Ctrl-C" before you hit send. Then, even if it does freeze or stop working, you just hit "Ctrl-V" to paste it back later (assuming you don't restart your computer).

Really it's my fault. When the link in my original message got combined with someone else's message (clearly Dmitri King's) the message didn't have a 'delete' or 'edit' link on it for me so my hands were tied so to speak. I then messaged Harley asking her to delete the original. However it looks as though that wiped Dmitri King's posting, the link on my posting (that had text Dmitri King wrote) and left half my original posting. Definitely just a glitch. The server went down just after I hit send.

Sorry Dmitri King and harley.

Oops! I'm SO sorry Dmitri, boy is my face red!! LOL! My only defense is that I didn't actually TRY to delete yours.. I pressed delete on Blaze's message and yours went instead! Sorry again :o(
I'm sure its just a glitch, I've let Fencer know about it and I'm sure he'll find the problem in no time.

That was my post that got deleted. It was a somewhat long post too. BUt, not to worry-- by clicking "back" on my browser about 100 or 150 times, it returned me to the screen where I typed thre message about 5 hours ago, and so I was able to copy and paste it here! here is the original message:

<The worst consequence of a donw period is timing out in a game. BUt, this is avoidable. I realzie that in the best acse scenario, one would not have to worry about this at all. But, donwtime will happen occasionally, and one can easily prepare for it.

Many people, like me, are addicts, and are at the computer almost all the time and can make moevs at almost any opint in the day. For this reason, I do not fear timing out.

but, if you are a person who only makes moves once a day, or maybe twice a day, you are in greater danger of timing out, so you might want to consider playing games that have 3 or 4 days to move (or longer), then consider one of those days to be "emergency only" days. By that I mean pretend it isn't there at all. If you have a 5 day gamne, pretend it is a 4 day game, then if the site goes down for a full day, you have that extra day to make your moves. If you never let your games gte below one day to move, you will not time out even if the site is down for a full day (and it has not yet been done for more than 24 hours).

Is tihs a mild inconveniemnce? Perhaps. But this ios the only site I have seen that has rated turn based games with such a variety to choose from, so I consider it a worthwhile inconvneience. >>>>>>>>

Thanks for trying anyway harley. Not sure what happened there, I posted a link with my original message, the server went down, then I refreshed and when the posting appeared the link was full of text that wasn't mine and the posting stopped short! I think two messages may have gotten combined into one when the server went down. I took a quick snap of the board at that time.

So can the owner of the following text please stand up and be counted:

"Is tihs a mild inconvenience? Perhaps. But this ios the only site I have seen that has rated turn based games with such a variety to choose from,so I consider it a worthwhile inconvenience."

Lol (and I really am having a giggle here!!).

Subject: Brainking Performance
Let's be positive! Tonight the site is running perfectly! For the record, I agree with Dmitri King, TTjazz, and Pipilo!

Please consider this.
Brain King has huge potential. It already offers so much not offered by other games site. Buckwheat (and anyone else with a gripe) please visit the BrainKing Info page for more general information about this site. BrainKing info is located on a different server so will still be available during any lulls you experience. Definitely worth bookmarking. All credit to Fencer for actually caring enough about public relations to create that info site. Again that's one of the refreshing differences that Brain King has to offer! The creater of Brain King actually listens to suggestions.

If you have any queries please e-mail a customer service assistant.

Please don't bother Fencer with queries relating to site performance. In addition to raising a family and earning a living away from this site, he is already devoting much time to fixing the error caused by the driver (Connector/J) connecting the application and database servers that causes the downtime; It's just a bug; all sites experience bugs, and I think anyone logging in at regular intervals will agree that downtime is only a small proportion!

The huge majority of the time, Brain King is up and running and reliable!! This site has a great future. If you purchase a membership you will be doing something constructive towards that future in addition to reaping the benefits of multiple tournament entry (or creation), ability to join fellowships (or create them if you are a rook), no games limit for a rook or 50 games limit for a knight, the members' message board and the option to select which next game to go to when making moves (the new dropdown menu system just for paid members). Instead of the negative complaining view, please lets be positive! This is an excellent site.

I wish to thank both Fencer and Liquid for the many hours they dedicate to the future of this site! I would also appeal to anyone considering buying a membership to do so. The more paid members, the faster the hardware this site will be able to run from!

It slows sometimes yes, but overall I think it functions well. Maybe your just logging in at a peak time? It cant be cheap to run a site of this nature, but Fencer is saving for a new server, so come that time even peak periods will likely run smooth.

For those of you who missed it the first time, here is a copy of my original message. You still have about a week to enter :-)

--------
--------

I have deicided to hold a membership competition, but have decided against simply giving it to the person who is best at a certain game. I also wanted to keep it open to all pawns, regardless of whether they are in a tournament or not. Here's how it will work:
1. It is open to all brain pawns who are registered on the site as of the date and time of this message (to prevent people creating multiple accounts and entering more than once)
2. You will send me a message with the title "Kevin's Membership Competition". In it, you will tell me in 100 words or less why you deserve a membership.
3. The deadline for entries will be June 1 at midnight GMT. As long as the message is dated before then, it will be accepted.
4. There will be at least one winner, but could be more depending on quality and quantity of entrants.
5. Please try and use correct spelling, grammar and punctuation. If I can't understand it the first read through, i likely will not try and read it again.
6. Good luck everyone :-)

But you do need to read them nearly every day as many boards get more than 50 messages each day. When this happens you will need to go back a few (sometimes many) pages but then the "new" markings disappear.

You can also change the number of messages displayed each time too although I have left mine to the standard 50. I think if you change this it changes all the boards and I expect the more messages the longer to download.

Cheers W.
