today is the FIRST time since the crash that i have had the....Too busy...cant get in signal :(
Last night I was told it was me...tonight i refuse to believe that...anyone???

It was not a crash, only a short inactivity because of firewall management. I am sure that 20 minutes of server being down is worth improving the overall security.

OOPS.....I wasnt talking today :( i was talking theother month :( crash that was longer than 20minutes....and yes your are right....20 minutes to repair and upgrade and clean up is worth the wait....sorry :)

I am presently here on the "old" Brainking.com. When I try to access this site on the "new" Brainking, I get a pop up stating that "This kind of information can't be used". FYI, I use WebTV. Is this a problem with my system or yours? I have been using "new" Brainking with no problems until today. Thanks.

If you go to the persons profile that you think has you on their enemy list you will notice you cannot send them a personal message

There is a person on this site, who keeps creating new identities (the current is "3030", it used to be "orion", "ares" and many more such as "abcd", etc. some time ago). He usually has a sentence "standard chess only" in his profile. He creates new public invitations (a few games of chess and a couple of 3-win chess matches) with each new ID. After you accept one of these, he deletes the game or gives it up after a couple of moves.

I am posting this as a warning for those who would accept his invitations - it is just a waste of time and game slots for pawns.

When people try to sign up for the backgammon tourney, it takes them to a chess tourney where they cant sign up :o(

I don't know what is happening here, because I see no problem. Thanks for your help!

I'm able to sign up for the "backgammon" chess tournament.

To me, it looks like possible you that you did not change the game type to "Backgammon" before you made the game. (And just clicked "Add Tournament" under the Chess area)

Jack, turn on Auto Log-in. Click on "My Profile". Then click on "Edit"... Then scroll down and click on "Enable Auto Log-in"

Subject: Re: Question for Fencer & BBW
Let me tell you what I did:
1) I created the chess team
2) in the scare there I could click on Define new tournament
3) I defined the new chess tourny
4) then I clicked on Create the Backgammon team
5) in the square that i got I clicked on Define New Tournament
6) so I did define the backgammon tourny

What did I do wrong? :-) And how can I correct the mistake??

7. December 2003, 03:33:00

maybe delete the 2nd one and try again...

7. December 2003, 07:15:10
coan.net
To create a backgammon Tournament.

1) In the "Select a team" section, choose Backgammon and click "show"
2) Once the Backgammon "team" comes up, you can click on the "create a tournament" there to create a backgammon tournament.

I'm not sure what had happen before, but my guess is that you created the Backgammon team, but the team still showed the "Chess team" and that was how a second chess tournament was created.

So the best solution is just to delete the extra Chess tournament you have now, and try to make the Backgammon tournament again.

Subject: Dumb Question about draws.
Hey.. I guess I haven't dealt with a lot of games where draws are very common.
If, in a game such as Tablut, both players keep making the same move, moving back when the opponent makes the appropriate defensive move, then the opponent moves back, and it starts all over again? Is this considered a draw? If so, after how many repeats is it appropriate to ask for one?

LOL.. did that make any sense? I think it's snowing in my head too...

7. December 2003, 23:21:58
harley
I'd ask for a draw as soon as its obvious that you're at a stalemate, that nobody can win. Definitely after no more than 2 or 3 moves!

Subject: Re: Dumb Question about draws.
In chess, if the same moves are repeated 3 times, it's a stale mate. ( same as a draw )

I think forced draws (in the manner of perpetual check) in tablut are nonsense. A voluntary draw in which both sides willingly repeat position indicates a mutual desire to draw, neither side thinks that they can win but in tablut white, in an otherwise lost situation, can force a repitition to avoid losing. The fact that this can be done in chess has no bearing on the situation in tablut. On the tablut rules page there's a statistic that at BrainKing white has won 60% of the games, this is already a large enough advantage without adding the extra resource of being able to force a draw (black can not force a draw). For black avoiding a draw is as big a challenge as is trying to win. I dont know if it would help to remove the draw as it might make it too easy for black to win but as the present situation is unfair I suggest that games that end with white forcing repetition shouldn't count as a result but instead should be replayed with the colours reversed.
