Subject: Re: Advertising in Tip of the day
Fencer Said: "Tip of the day" does not mean "Tip of the day related to BrainKing only".
What? Are you serious?

Yes, its your site, but...
1. How many of you members enable "Tip of the day" hoping to get some cool insight into BK?
2. How many of you enable it hoping to get yet another advertisement?
3. How many of you enable it hoping to get some random tip for another web site?

OK, I have to admit, I had already disabled it. But, if I had it enabled and started getting advertisements, I would immediately disable it.

Hmmm, I wonder if I am going to get in trouble for my comments...

Modified by Summertop (21. August 2008, 23:18:20)
OK, I'm surprised...I accepted a "draw" offer from an opponent not expecting my rating to drop. It did. I'm hoping someone can tell me why?

Game: Chess (Summertop vs. petrchy)

Note: Opponent's rating was 2075 (over 100 games, so it was established).
My rating was 1729

Subject: New Poll Ideas
I don't often use polls, but if they are something that might help the site, I probably would.

Poll 1: What browser do you use for Brainking (IE, Firefox, Safari, opera, other)

Poll 2: What performance do you see from Brainking (very fast, fast, medium, slow, very slow, unusable)

Interesting, I decided to "View Source" on the "DoBoardPost" page...here is what I got:
[html]
[head]

[/head]
[body bgcolor="#ffffff"]
[/body]
[/html]

Note...I formated it to make it more readable and I replaced "<>" with "[]"" with "[]"

coan.net: Yes, there is another computer I can use (at work). It gives the same problem...

Other pages that redirect work fine. I'm at a loss. I would say it's the firewall at work, but the other brainking pages load fine.

Well, more on the Blank Pages (DoLogin, DoMove, DoBoardPost)....
When I tried this at home, there was no issue. At work there still is...

I don't think the firewall is the culprit because all the other pages work fine. Even the Doxxxx pages work mostly, just don't redirect.

Host-tracker.com showed no problems.

I haven't seen this issue with any other web site.

Any other suggestions?

Well, sure enough...the DoBoardPost page died...but the post made it.

Well...WHEN a page loads, it loads fairly quick. But I've noticed LOTS of times when it just seems to stop with a blank (white) page.
Every page that starts with "Do" stops on me...
DoLogin
DoMove

I've tried FireFox, IE, Safari, Opera...it seems to not be a browser problem. If I refresh, nothing. If I manually go to the Main page, my action completed (made a move, logged in, etc).

I sure hope this posts gets saved, as I bet it uses a DoSomething page.

FYI...This started yesterday for me. Later I will try this from a different network. Currently I am at work and my firewall might be blocking it (who knows why).

Subject: Slow
OK...I looked for a "Support" forum and didn't find it (maybe Fencer should add one). So, I am posting here. Hope I am not offending anyone.

I have been a paid member of Brainking for a while now and have loved the site. But lately, it is running REALLY slow for me. I have been dealing with it, but was thinking maybe someone could help me out.

1. Pages will sometimes take 35 seconds to load. This makes playing games, tedious.

2. I have cleared every cache I could think of.

3. I have tried multiple browsers. IE and Firefox behaved the same. So I downloaded and installed Opera (has never been on my computer). It behaves the same also.

4. I have tried other websites, and they respond just fine.

5. I have tried from multiple locations (work, home) with the same results.

6. I have tried multiple computers with same result.

So...anyone have any more suggestions? It's like have a little rock in your shoes, no big deal, but DRIVING ME CRAZY!

Can someone explain how to use this feature...
I'm guessing this is for a style sheet. Is there a link to Download the "default" style sheet that BK uses? that way I can simply modify what I want, then post it to my own server and PRESTO!

krybulon: Lets go back to your original post...

what are you talking about all the time ? Why do we need all those whistles, fountains and special features for our games ? It takes so much Fencer's creative energy which could be used for some other stuff ...

All we can do is submit suggestions. Fencer decides what he is going to do. My suggestions don't take ANY of his energy (resources?). He can (and often does) ignore them. well, maybe not ignore, but he decided whether he thinks a suggestion will benefit the MAJORITY of the members.

I never use these brains, ponds, stairs, templates ... for what ? It's like having 900 TV channels while you need only 3 or 4 ...

so...everyone else should give up the 896/897 channels that they like and only watch the 3 or 4 that you like? Or should they not even be offered because you don't like them?

With all the respect .. please stop it.

How respectful is it to ask everyone to quit submitting suggestions because YOU are happy with the way BK is? Or only submit suggestions for games because YOU don't want to use certain features?

With all respect to you...feel free to NOT make any suggestions. But until you own BK, what gives you the right to tell everyone else what to do?

krybulon: I can understand your feelings. However, whistles, fountains, etc...are what gives BK it marketability. If it didn't have all the bells and whistles, most people would find another site. Fencer is not doing this because he is bored. He wants to make money. The games are nice, but the bells and whistles are what sells. I've seen web pages that offered games, but no pretty features. I don't think they are even still around.

Fencer, I appreciate what you are offering. I think it adds to the site. However, one thing I have enjoyed, as a paying member, is the ability to turn off features that I don't like/want. Lately, it seems, you keep adding "annoyances" that I just have to deal with. Please, at least allow paying members to turn off these new features:

1. The press monitoring link.
2. The "Your settings do not allow you to recieve action points" link. I like turning off the addvertisements. But, now I have that as a replacement.
