Marshmud: No, it is not an example of the rule.

The rule is that if on all rolls it is impossible for your opponent to move, then you must open up a space that he or she can move into.

Vikings: He was a pawn a few hours ago when I first read his post.

It seems that someone believes in cosmic justice (Fencer? you? someone else?) and quietly bought/gave him a rook membership so that his problem was resolved.

I use firefox and don't have any problem like this. Nevertheless I agree that he should try changing browsers to see if it is a firefox problem with this site, or if all browsers he tries he still has the problem. Either way though he will learn something I suppose. I also suggest going through the usual laundry list of things to do, like cleaning his cache, rebooting his computer, doing a quick virus scan, and when he has time he should do a full virus scan (which should be a daily thing anyway regardless).

Every now and then I get the "slow loading page" problem at the same time that others get it. Changing browsers etc. doesn't help that problem though.

Carpe Diem: I like your suggestion for battleboats plus. I would love it if they changed it so that for the very first move of the game that player one gets only 2 moves, and then for the rest of the game it is 5 (or fewer of course once ships get sunk) for both players.

Carpe Diem: Ah yes, you are correct. I guess it is just that I am not familiar with those other games so that hadn't occurred to me.

For anyone looking to play a pure skill game that is essentially 50-50 even for top players, then I suggest trying connect6.

Carpe Diem: Add "battleboats plus" to the list.

I also want to point out that those pente statistics are deceptive. It is more like 80-95% wins for player one when top players play each other. Scroll to see the match results thus far in this match: Pente (aleph_1 vs. Brf)

I want to thank Hannelore for answering all those questions; I would *not* have done it!

On another note, I wonder if Fencer could stop Hannelore from spying on me?

Maybe when I start playing new games again (after the holidays perhaps?) I will learn how to play espionage...how hard can it be? (cough)

Carpe Diem: rod is on to something I think. I suggest trying the option listed as "go to the next game with offline player".

It is not perfect, but it would seem to solve most of the problem you seem to be having.

Gammonator: Looks like the second round didn't start due to a bug.

Also looks like your opponent hasn't logged in since last year.

If Fencer doesn't reply to your post in the next 24 hours, just email him and he should fix it so that the next round starts.

Once the round starts you may win by timeout within a couple of weeks (damn vacation days!) if your opponent doesn't log back in.

plouzilka beta

Chess (plouzilka beta vs. Jasmín Tchoř)

Looking at the date the person joined BrainKing, the date he last logged in, and the number of moves played would seem to make this a slam dunk to have the game voided.

Subject: multiple brainking malfunctions
I apologize for posting this here, maybe I should make out a bug report, but these are general malfunctions applicable to everyone, instead of just some random thing happening in a certain game.

First, one of my opponents has -1 hour 15 mins left to move in her game with me. Yes, *minus* 1 hour and 15 minutes!!! It is not just my game with her, but her game with several of her opponents that something similar is happening. vike

Second, I moved away from my computer for a few minutes, and when I came back, it seemed like she had the same amount of time left vs me. So I refreshed, and her time left was reduced by something like 12 minutes. This despite the fact that my settings are set for 30 second refreshing.

I suspect that both problems are related. It occurs to me that many people don't manually refresh, so they might not notice that the times are the same, and think they have no games where it is their turn to play. While in reality if they refresh then they might find it is their turn in several games. Multiply this across the site, and I suspect that many players aren't playing too much right now because of this problem....
