Surely a solution would be to put a limit on the maximum amount of games somebody can play.

Subject: Old Problem?
I just thought I'd put my ten pence worth in...

I've never seen this happen in any of my tournaments. The only two examples I've seen of this happening have been in tournaments that started a number of years ago. I wonder if it's been sorted now but might be difficult to put right in tournaments that commenced before a particular date.

Anybody's thoughts?

Hi guys. I have already signed up oleg2008 in my team tournament. He has recently informed me that his brain rook status has expired. Will I still be able to play him in the team tournament? The tournament starts in 6 days.

I like it too. In future random tournaments I will make the selection 'random position for each opponent' in the hope this is what caused it.

I don't know if I've not been keeping my ear to the ground, but I created this tournament and it's on of those round robins where you play each opponent in two seperate games/matches. I appear to be playing each opponent with different games.

2020 Octogammon 12/May/14

I thought you played two games of the same type with each opponent. Has something changed? Have I imagined the whole thing?

I've just sent an invite to a member of my fellowship and he claims not to have received it. It was definitely him I sent it to and I checked the box. Is there a delay with the sending of invites, or might there be something I've done wrong?

Subject: Time Controls
I don't often contribute to this board, but I do often read what comes up. I've seen the arguments below and many similar to it in the past and have not said anything, but I will say something today.

It seems simple to me. every tournament has a time control. They have a time control and they have a standard vacation option and a weekend only option. Some times they use the clocks with no exceptions. If your time runs out and your vacation days run out, you forfeit the game. Until that happens, it is your time to do with as you please.

Maybe the problem lies not with people using up THEIR time, but with people signing up for tournaments that have liberal time controls. If you sign up for a tournament that is 5 day standard vacation and you are a relatively fast player, then expect to be kept waiting.

I'm not addressing this to anyone in particular. It's an open letter

Subject: Pond Question
I was wondering what people think to the idea of having ponds that would start with fewer than a minimum of 16 players. A pond with 8 people might be really interesting. What would your initial bid be? I can appreciate that a pond with 3 people at the beginning would only have one round that would really matter, but 6 or more, for instance, might be pretty challenging.

Just wondering...

Ok, this is strange. I created a pond called Quit the night and seek the day and another has been created in my name that has the same name and is scheduled to begin at the same moment. I have changed my password now. hopefully that will stop anything else from happening. Someone seems to have me in their sites.

Subject: Phoney messages
I just wanted to say that it seems somebody has been sending messages posing as me or at least on my behalf. I got a message from Nirvana yesterday that was apparently a reply to a message that I had sent to her or to one of her fellowships. It's been a little frustrating because she was offline when I received the message and has been offline since, so I haven't been able to clarify where the message came from exactly. I hope that my account has not been hacked. The message seemed to have cut and pasted portions of an actual message that I sent a couple of weeks ago to my fellowship members, but mostly stuff added that has nothing to do with me. Someone seems to be posing as me for a joke. I just wanted to put this on the main brainking board in case other people have been receiving such messages. Please let me know if you have.

Subject: Brain distribution in knockout tournaments
When you set up a knockout tournament with brain prizes, you are asked to select a prize distribution for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place. Now the winner will be first, the losing finalist second, but who is third? next you have two losing semifinalists. How does that work?

OMG! I was looking through the running tournaments, and I just found a backgammon tournament that's been running for 8 years. It has 7 point matches with the doubling cube. Just thought I'd share.
