DEMOCRATS BY THE NUMBER New Townhall.com blogger Dwayne Horner
recently compiled a stunning list of the tax transgressions by those
writing, creating and implementing the nation's tax policy. And so much more here.

$34,000: the amount of federal taxes that Secretary
of the Treasury Timothy Geithner (D) failed to pay during his
employment at the International Monetary Fund despite receiving extra
compensation and explanatory brochures that described his tax
liabilities.

$75,000: the amount of money that the head of the powerful
tax-writing committee, Rep. Charlie Rangel (D-NY), was forced to report
on his taxes after the discovery that he had not reported income from a
Costa Rican rental property. His excuses for the failure started with
blaming his wife, then his accountant and finally the fact that he
didn't speak Spanish.

$140,000: the amount of back taxes and interest that Cabinet nominee Tom Daschle (D)
was forced to cough up after the vetting process revealed significant, unexplained tax liabilities.

$800,000: the amount of "sweetheart" mortgages Senate Banking
Chairman Chris Dodd (D-CT) received from Countrywide Financial, the
details for which he has refused to release details despite months of
promises to do so.

Czuch:  Obama needs to realize (and likely he does) that the stimulus package will, at least in part, define the early days of his presidency.  He needs to get this one right.

I don't know why he doesn't just look at the proposed package, and then start naming names of all those in congress that piled on the pork.  Expose them and make it clear that they are using the stimulus package as an excuse for pork.  But he won't cuz he ain't got the backbone to do that sort of thing.  But wouldn't it be great if the sitting democratic president took on the fat cats and let them have it publically?

Artful Dodger: yeah, its true, and i think Obama has finally figured this out as well.... I guess he had a meeting with some congress members and pretty much told them to get the pork out and to look closer at some of the Republicans ideas, like some of the tax cuts plans, and to get this bill in shape to pass ASAP!

This whole economy issue is bigger than politics, and politics must stay out of it!

I think the original version had only something like 20% that actually went to infrastructure! This is supposed to be mostly about pumping money into our infrastructure, wasnt it???

Who Needs the Stimulus?

Gallup poll shows majority of Americans have severe doubts about economic stimulus plan's current format

and the doubts are growing.

Why is it that congress drafted an economic recovery plan and then packed it with such pork?  The democrats want to pass it and the republicans want to change it.  Seems that the majority of Americans agree with the republicans on this one.

Artful Dodger: another thing that bothers me. Doctors that preform abortions make tons of money.
so do heart surgeons, plastic surgeons,etc...Do you not have any free womans clinincs that help lower income women out in your area?
I don't believe that tax payers should be MADE to fund abortion...thats wrong (OMG did I again NOT fit into some idea of your mold of me because I am agreeing with you on this!!??) I also feel that more plans need to be out there to PREVENT pregnancy in the first place....certainly NOT as hog wild as Pelosi stated, but SOMETHING needs to be done,we actaully kind of had this disscusion before..the women addicted to crack that keep having kids...my thought, sterilize them, end of story....abortion should NEVER be used because some woman made a stupid drunk desicion to have unprotected sex one night...sux it up and deal with it,BUT what if she was raped?? insest?? some 12 year old girl is raped and gets pregnant..what if the baby is going to be deformed or retarded?? tell me WHERE in nature (unless their is human intervention in most cases) that you will find a deformed animal...you don't because nature takes care of it own...we have such a God complex that we feel we MUST save all life...there need to be guidlines on this priocudure..but WHY would anyone want to make it ilegal and FORCE a woman or young girl to have to go to the old "back ally" way of doing it when we HAVE the know how now to preform it safely?

like I have previuosly stated...it gets very tiresome to argue when they only want to see one side of things...I TRY,to a point to see the entire spectrum, but they insist on grouping me into "liberal" and crap like that,I dont fit into THEIR mold, but they dont want to seem to notice that...well,in all fairness,Chuckie does,sometimes..They are condemming Obama,he is ruining our great country, and he hasn't even been in a month...bit hard to take the country down in less then a month...as far as that goes,I CHOOSE not to get into a pissing match with them, easier on everyones nerves

I never knew there were so many different groups out there opposed to abortion.  Sure the religious right is once such group, but I was surprised to find the following:

Atheists http://www.godlessprolifers.org/home.html

Feminists  http://www.feministsforlife.org/

Democrats  http://www.democratsforlife.org/

Libertarians  http://www.l4l.org/

Others:  http://mommylife.net/archives/2008/07/prolife_feminis.html

It's worth the time to consider their arguments on such an important issue.

Bernice:  another thing that bothers me.  Doctors that preform abortions make tons of money.  Abortion makes the millionaires.  It seems to me that anyone that stands to make so much money preforming an abortion shouldn't be in on the decision of the woman.   I realize that most often the decision is likely between the woman and her private physician and that she would be referred to the specialist, but it strikes me as odd that so much money could be made by such a practice.
