Subject: Team Tournaments
For new team tournaments, here are some tournaments I would like to see:

  • Crowded Backgammon - A popular Gammon game, maybe 5-7 players per team. Need to get this one going since after this starts, we should be ready for out 2nd regular Backgammon team tournament (with 1 game left to complete) [name suggestion: Don't stand so close gammon]

  • Halma 8x8 - Not to popular, would not make it more then 4-5 players per team.

  • Anti Froglet - Some-what popular, could probable get enough team even with 5-6 players per team. [name suggestion: The Croaking Frog]

  • Halma 10x10 - Would stick with 4-5 players per team.

  • Line4 - It's an easy game which more "non-regular" players may play - probable could handle 5-6 players per team.

Again, just a few of my suggestions! :-)

It's a way to spread out the highest ranked players. I'll explain it this way which should make a little more since. (Example using 4 sections)

So first put the highest ranked player in section #1,
    2nd highest in Section #2,
    3rd highest in Section #3
    4th highest in Section #4

At this point you start to go backwards.

    5th highest in Section #4,
    6th highest in Section #3,
    7th highest in Section #2,
    8th highest in Section #1,

... and again, in the other direction.

    9th highest in Section #1
    10th highest in Section #2
    11th highest in Section #3
    12th highest in Section #4
    ... and so on.

Hopefully that will make more since seeing it when it applies to more section. With only 2 sections, it does look a little strange.

    6th highest

I was looking through the team tournaments, and I seen 3 tournaments which will not have enough teams to start.

Those tournaments of less-popular games are:

  • Gothic Chess
  • Cylinder Chess
  • Parachute Checkers

If you are able to play in team tournaments, and any of those games look interesting to you - Check with your fellowships to teams to join, or join a new fellowship looking for team members.

Here are a few fellowships that I know of that are looking for players for these tournaments:

  • HOME Fellowship - I know looking for both Cylinder Chess & Gothic Chess

  • Monkey Madhouse - Looking for players for all 3 games

  • The Zoo - Also looking for players for all 3 games.

If other fellowship are looking, please let us know. If you are a player, feel free to join. Hopefully we can get enough teams to start these tournaments!

but the thing is, even without auto vacation, that same person can hold up the tournament for over a month.

Steve - you can keep on complaing about an option which is abused by a few, but the truth is that it can help the majority. If we get rid of everything that can be abused by a few, then why even have a game site if people are just going to abuse it? Maybe we should just get rid of BrainKing.com?

grenv - well he is only hurting himself - if you have a choice to lose now or lose later, it is much beter for your ratings to lose now, then to wait until later. (At least that is what I have been told - have not done the math yet) :-)

But Stevie - if they did not have the auto vacation set up, they could as easly set the days manually.

It's not like the system adds more vacation days, just uses the ones currently given to all users.

    22. October 2004, 18:31:05
    coan.net
exactly Stevie - and with auto vacations set, it will be a welcome result once things do settle down that when they get back on-line, their games will still be here waiting for them.

I like the idea of auto vacations since they can be great when emergencies arrise. Brothers in the hostpital, wife goes into labor, house burns down and takes computer with it, etc.... When things like this comes up, it is nice to not have to think "oh no, I beter got to an internet game site and set vacations".

Of course some users will abuse it, but people also abused the last way also - so I like this new feature.

It's a 3 win match, so if that is timed out, a third game will start. No BKR/ratings are calculated until someone gets the 3 win's.

If you are a player and you would like to play in one of these tournaments, take a look & Post that you want to play on the Fellowships Discussion board - Where there are many fellowships currently looking for players to play in these tournaments.

If you don't know how to play one of these games, but possible would like to try? Then check out the current tournaments I have which are for players rated 1500 or under, or UNRATED or NEW to the game! Almost all the team tournament games can be found there:

As a side note about those tournament, a game type has to have AT LEAST 4 players to start - and a few including some of the current team tournament games do not have enought. So PLEASE take a look if you are interested in some more practice, or want to try a new game!

All games for dummies will start in about 6 days. This includes almost every game that in on this site. It is limited to players rated 1500 or below - which is GREAT for learning new games, or playing in games you like - but just not an expert at. UNRATED PLAYERS are also welcomed - great way to learn a new game, plus earn rating points. Each game needs at least 4 players in it to start. ALSO, before the tournament starts - I will be remove any players who are now way over the limit of 1500 - so if you sign up and see a player with a high rating in there, don't worry, I will remove them before the start of the game.

Then I just simple copy the list of all the tournaments and paste it into an Excel spreadsheet which then I can quickly look how many rows/tournaments I have entered.

Looking at yours ughaibu, I see you have entered 148 tournaments! :-)

Quote from IMCK below: "...and since BBW signs up when he creates them, there are only 4 other slots open..."

That to me sound like you thought I sign up for most of my own tournanemnts - which is wrong, like I said, about 8%.

About 33% of my tournament wins are from my own fast start tournaments. That is a fact, and I'm happy to tell people that. Again, I was not brafing about myself, still don't know how you see that. I have no intention to say anything when I get to 100 tournament wins, or 2000 games won, or any of those milestones.

I mean I know you are unsecure with yourself and it makes you feel beter by trying to put other peoples acheivements down, but it only makes yourself look bad. Please don't take this the wrong way, but have you even seen profesional help? I can help set something up if you want - of course you can contact me in private to help you save a little face with your fellow gamers.

Um, I'm not sure what you were reading but apparently it's not this board.

My post was to congratulate someone who hit a milestone - 100 wins. I posted that I was right behind them, but by no means was it meant to brag on myself and my win total - which is less then 1/2 the #1 tournament winner. PLUS maybe you did not know, this is not a hidden stat or anything - you can see who has what tournament wins HERE

Then you start to say how I enter all my fast start tournament, which I corrected you to say it was only about 8% of them that I enter. You then try to say how I only play lower ranked players, but again corrected you to let you know that I almost always enter my own fast start tournament as the first person signed up.

Then you keep on debating how some of the tournaments I have won was against lower ranked players. While no one is debating this fact with you, you keep debating it. Are you upset I got tired of all your political lies and won't debate politics with you anymore? So you just have to find something else?

Truce? I will defend myself anytimg I feel I need to. If you want a truce, then shut up and quit talking about me. very simple, but i'm sure you can't do that.

    coan.net
    Still debating yourself.

As you may not know, the #1 of the fast tournament of new games were intruduced when players had no ratings - so at the time that tournament started, I was playing against all equal players!

What is funny is that next month, IMCK will complain about people who will not play lower ranking players since the higher player has more to lose against lower ranked players. Truce? If you would just keep your mouth to yourself in the first place, we wouldn't have a problem!

    Subject: sad....
You know it's sad when no one else cares, and IMCK starts to debate himself! LOL

IMCK - usually when I sign up for one of my own fast start tournament, I'm usually the first one signed up, so I have no control on who else signs on. I know you think I have a lot of control of this site, but I'm just a normal user here. Also, this site does not keep track of what ratings are when the tournament starts or when it was played - just what they are now, so things could have changed a lot since there.

... and I did some "quick" stats for you.

I have created 1,363 fast start tournaments to date. I have joined only 113 of them, that is about 8% - so I joined very few of them.

And personally I have joined a total of 548 tournaments - so only about 20% are made up of my own "fast start" tournaments!

IMCK - Um, first I don't have the most moves. Second, I don't have the most tournament wins. Third, there is not a game which I have the highest BKR. Forth, most of the tournament I create I do not sign up for myself! I would guess I sign up for less the 20% of the own tournaments I make!

Someone made a great milestone of 100 wins which I congradulated them for.... with the comment that I was right behind them. I'm sorry that you feel so inferior about it all, but that is all it was.

    Subject: Team Tournament Question
    Modified by coan.net (3. September 2004, 21:28:11)
It is a 2 way tie.

First, the team with the most points is the winner.

If there is a tie between point, then it moves to which has the most game wins.

It's probable not "yellowed" yet for the winners because Fencer not programed it to determin the winners yet - but that is just my guess since this is something new.

The other 2 sections still have games (even though we already know 2 teams from section 1, 2 teams from section 2, and 1 team from section 3 will move on.)

    Those teams are:

  • The Gammon Cube
  • Home
  • !Bry's Backgammon Fellowship
  • · · ® · Cajovna · ® · ·
  • Neznalkovo spolecenstvo

I don't think he changed that.

One things that was changed (from BK1.0 to BK2.0) was the ability to add multiply game types to a fellowship tournament, but you would have to have a team for that gamy type to add it.

Of corse if I BIG BOSS wanted to get around that, they could add a team, create a tournament, then remove the team and let the tournament go on. (Up to the 4th Backgammon tournament in my Battleboat fellowship!) :-)

    1. September 2004, 21:12:16
    coan.net
But it is up to the tournament creator to pick either 5-max-per-section or up to 8-max-per-section.

By defualt, it is 8-max per section, so if the section is full of 8 people, 7 games will start for each player, but it still will only check if 5 are free.

I guess my point is why make it more dificult to program then just pick a middle ground like "5".

Plus Fencer has his point. If unhappy about how it is programmed, they they can always upgrade! :-)

    1. September 2004, 20:59:10
    coan.net
.... because it is easier to tell the computer to "Check for 5 free game slots" then to say:

Figure out sections, then see how many games will be created, then check to see if free spaces is availabel, then once players are kicked out figure out new section, then see how many games will be created, then start tournament.

It can actually work in your favor also. Since it is hard coded to only look for 5 free game slots (10 free game slots for 2-game tournaments), you could end up with as many as 7 games (or 14 games) started and will let you play over your 20 game limit!

I'm sure it was a mistake - since by default when you create a new tournament, "All Games" is the choice. (I can't tell you how many of my "Fast Start" tournament I had first made as "all games" by accident)

BUT NOW (As of BK2.0) when you create a new tournament, it does not take you back to what you just created - but takes you back to the main tournament page, so it is easy to not see the mistake until it is too late and people have started to sign up.

And the only way to fix the mistake is to remove the whole tournament, and create a new tournament.

    3 ways to get games

    1) Visit the Waiting Games area and pick out some games.

    2) Go to New Game to put your own game in the waiting room for someone else to pick up.

    3) Go to the Tournaments Area - Find a tournament which looks interesting. Inside there, it will list all the game types. (If just one type, it will just list the one game.) You will have to click on THAT game name to open up where you actually "sign up" for a tournament.

Plus other ways to get games is to invite players from their profile, or accept game invites from other players.
