What follows received NO RESPONSE on the 'features' board, so let's try it here:
I'd like to investigate the possibility of establishing "double elimination" tournaments. Eight entrants may be optimal, although any of the multiples available for single elimination would suffice.
Here is a proposal. Each player would start with two game points. Following each round, points are DEDUCTED for results as follows: WIN -- No points DRAW -- one-half point LOSS -- one full point
Players would be eliminated whenever their point total drops to zero. Therefore, each entrant will play in at least the first two rounds.
In the first round, players would be paired normally according to ratings. In the second round, winners play winners and losers play losers, etc. and in successive rounds players are paired against others with point totals equal or within a half-point of theirs, as closely as possible. Also, to balance the opportunity, each player should have roughly the same amount of Blacks as Whites over the course of the tournament.
It may occur that an odd number of players would start a round, which could be resolved by issuing a bye to the lowest rated player with the fewest points, except if the tournament is reduced to three players, a round-robin round should commence until two players remain, and then match play until one is the winner.
There may be other flaws that need to be ironed out, yet the system would produce interesting games and results.
Please sign up, only a few days left, it is an elimination tournament, so wont take that long to complete, so please dont worry with regards to the number of people requested.
KotDB: By the way, to those who responded about my issue of tournament eligibility as a knight (several days back), it turns out KotDB was right. Apparently knights can enter more than one tournament of a game type now.
I tested the theory by signing up for several dice poker tourneys over a few days, and that worked fine. Sure enough, I'm in aaru's tourney now with no problems.
There was a small bug in the first tournament I set up in which all players got the same board up - so I had Fencer delete those games since it was easy to tell where the frogs where - so I set up a new #1 tournament, along with the other 5:
Plus someone said they did not like to play rated games for new games which might be unbalanced - so here is a quick unrated tournament for those who don't want to mess up their ratings yet:
furbster: Have you ever played minesweeper on the computer? Where you click on a square, and it gives a number - which is how many mines are in the 8 squares around the SHOT.
Same thing here - but for 2 players. Your 5 men & your opponets 5 men are put on the same board - you have to shoot to get the number until you think you can determin where a man is and guess where they are.
Good points for guessing correctly, bad points for hitting a man or guessing wrong.

the games are ludo, dice poker and triple dice poker. 8 players single elimination, 3 day standard vacation. starts as soon as it's filled. i don't know how to put it in a link.
I will be offering 50$ US to the winner, if you like pente please consider joining it's open to everyone! Last day to signup is March 16th 2007! Good luck to all Entrants! -Brf
[and if case you are one of those people who actually want to know how to play a game BEFORE you start to play - it is probable based from this: http://www.chessvariants.org/boardrules.dir/iceage.html - even though the rules may be slightly different]
