pgt: ah .. i didnt check the results in the tournament ... hmm .. then its tougher indeed

i am in a long tournament as well .. but we are closing its end ... and there are still 3 who can win the tournamernt, including me :)

The first doubling cube tournament

I am just 41, so i think i will see its end, before it sees my end ... and i am playing the last match in the tournament myself :-)

Subject: long lasting tournaments
the problem with this tournament for pgt is that he is a pawn (free) member which only allows 1 ongoing tournament

so while this tournament is not finished, he cannot join any other tournament, unless he purchases a membership

i understand his reasons not to buy a membership (read his profile), but there always 2 sides to something.

to solve the issue i think you can ask fencer to be removed from the tournament, but i am not sure if that solves it

a better solution would be to allow new tournaments for pawn players who cannot win the current running tournament anymore, and who have played all their games, as technically they arent in the tournament anymore

but requires some development :-)

JerNYC: you played even against eachother, but he won against #4 while you lost against #4 ... that earns him more points

of course you won against #5 and he lost against #5, but you gain less points against #5 than against #4

computeropponen: if you want anything to be done with your post, please post it on the chess board

there are many experienced chess players who read the chess board, and they might be able to analyze your game to determine if its likely to be a computer or not

btw 50% of my moves are careless and quick as well, but sometimes lucky enough to be not too bad :)

computeropponen: sorry, i dont understand your question? i am just a mod on the brainking.com board (and the dutch board), nowhere else .. if you want to discuss the way a board is being moderated please discuss it with the moderator of that specific board

i am just an ordinary player on this board

the discussion i saw from you on this board though wasnt about moderating but about possible cheating and ratings and chess, not about the moderating :)

fyi: the picture is my son who was seriously ill, but is ok now (6 monthly medical checkup the following years), but that talk doesnt belong on this board :)

there is a new backgammon tournament type : Tripple Gammon

each player in the tournament plays against each other player in the tournament

all matches are single games ... but gammons and backgammons are counted!!

a loss give 0 points
a single win gives 1 point
a gammon win gives 3 points
a backgammon win gives 5 points

the winner of the tournament will be the one who has the most points when all matches are finished

have fun!!!!

Tripple Gammon

BlueJ: unfortunately either of those 2 players can win their section (section 21)

from their bkr they seem unperienced in the game on here, and even with experienced players that game (espionage) can take quite long i think

as soon as whisperq wins at least 1 of those game we have a certain winner and something could be done (maybe), when both games are still open i think there cant be done much about it

Mr. Shumway: but i guess it wont be possible to use that loophole when the pawn is retired on the stairs ? as the stairs then isnt active for that pawn

i see very little difference between retirement and leaving a stairs .. only that when you retire you wont lose your position on the stairs
(hmm as a pawn it might be needed to leave a stairs to be able to join another one)

Mr. Shumway: you are sure you used 'Remove me from these stairs' and not 'Start retirement' ?

because what you say sounds exactly like a retirement works (as i understand :))

Subject: Re: Stairs
Mr. Shumway: oops, i then misunderstood :)
the same will then apply to leaving the stairs as which applies to retire on a stairs

the games will continue and will still count for your opponent, and also for you if you are still on the stairs (but not if you left it :))

gringo: you cant leave a stairs when you are still playing a game

you can retire on a stairs though (even when you have some games going), you wont lose your position that way and the outcome of your ongoing games will still count (you will drop or raise acording to your win or loss, although you cant see it as you are not shown while being retired)

it seems that knock out tournaments need all games to be finished before a next round starts ?

for example : this tournament

it would be nice if those fnished games of which the future is finished as well would start their next game

Subject: Re: Minimum number of players
gambler104: *nod* i prefer that type of seeding as well

the problem with random game types though is that you dont know the ranking of the player, so you cant base the seeding on the ranking

(thanks for posting the way of seeding though, i forgot i asked about that :) i didnt know it was different per game type)

Walter Montego: random seeds would give random byes

i like the idea of giving each player in a round the same type of game .. it takes away some factor which is in the random tournaments now though and less different game types would be played in the total tournament (by all players combined) (i think its nice when a lot of different games are player because it gives more established ratings, in the end ;))

another option would be to average the rating over all possible game types and use that average .. it can be wrong though when there are some unrated types in the average .. i dont know whats done with the seeding of unrated players in normal tournaments now?

Walter Montego: there is a problem though with rating people in random tournaments .. how do you rate the players in a tournament which choses the games randomly from all possible game types ?
(or from just the line types, or the gammon types)

i dont know how the seeding is done nowadays with the random tournaments

yoyudax: you can resign your games in the tournament, but the tournament wont be finished before all games of all players in the tournament are finished

so you can resign your games, but will still have to wait for the others to finish

but: when your games in a tournament are finished, and you have no chance to continue to the next round, then you can ask fencer, nicely, if he can remove you from the tournament so you can join a new one. he is the only one who can do it .. so be gentle :)

fismoluni: you can go to all the public stairs in the left menu, in which you can click on a specific stairs in which you can click on a specific game to see all the participants in the game in that stairs

but there are also stairs inside the fellowships, there is no global list for all those stairs combined i think

when you want to see all the participants in a specific stairs you are in, you can click on the stairs and see their names though
