Fine, but a lot of members want to spout loquacious on so called political issues, my contention is that such matters are not of general interest. I couldn't give an FFF who is PM in the UK or president in the US. Of course it matters to some people but it's not a matter of general concern, mention it once a month is okay but. . . .

Okay, how about the previous question about a dedicated politics board? I certainly get sick of reading about american electoral crap.

Can we have more posting members? I'm lonely. I've tried fantasies about my wife's "best friend" and I'm already suffering a sympathetic pregnancy, HELP!

If they dont play their rating is meaningless so who cares.

Okay about the ratings but if for example Skalpone's account was deleted would we lose his archived games? Would I lose my games with him? What harm do quiescent accounts do?

8. August 2004, 16:09:38

Subject: Caissus
For example Skalpone has had no internet access for his present academic year, his rating initially suffered from timed out games, since when being inactive is not his decision. Had he been here but refusing to risk his rating it would be a different case.

8. August 2004, 16:06:15

To be meaningful degradation of rating needs to be tied in with time on the site (without playing the relevent game) and total number of rated games.

It's in one of his books, (I dont think he invented it), entitled Mathematical Puzzles and Diversions, or something like that. It's an added dimension of potential cubes.

There are some fun ideas, for example dark three checks extinction chess. The number of pieces that would qualify as a checkable would increase with captures, would the balance of checks be cancelled after a capture, plenty of things to work with in mixed variants.

There must be a way to make Maharajah fun? Maybe dark three checks Maharajah would do the trick??

How about dark and loop tabluts? I've no idea how viable they'd be but if it's easy to do, they'd be fun to try a few times. (And so far there are no tablut variants.)

The problem with repression is just that. For example the word "bitch" is quite harmless in the Uk so I was very surprised to find it rendered as five asterisks when I posted it on a US hosted board. Likewise the US probably has harmless words that are offensive to UK ears, or maybe Mozambican ears or somewhere else's, if you try to avoid offending anyone it becomes impossible to effectively use language so I would much prefer to see those who are offended practicing tolerance rather than trying to close people down. On the point mentioned by Walter Montego and previously by Linda J that use of taboo words demonstrates a limited vocabulary; this is as unsupportable an arguement as one could wish for, every taboo word used is one more word in the vocabulary of the user than in that of the non-user.

Shall we burn a few books then? Being frightened of words seems particularly inappropriate for the information age.

As you know several times I've sent messages to you for translation, if these questions were on a public board then everyone would understand if they received a similar message plus it would save you time as other bilingual members could answer.

At one time you seemed enthusiastic about the idea of a board for questions of czech/english translation, has your enthusiasm waned, is it somewhere on a list or would you prefer it to be arranged as a fellowship?

30. June 2004, 12:43:26

It's definitely "incorrect", it means we'd have to ask our opponent to send their moves and then find somewhere to replay it to view the game.

I'm a one finger typer so seven actions just to enter my password, I prefer to use a Mac, on this machine the main page is very slow to load when I'm not going there volitionally, so much so that I press "stop" then "reload" to speed it up. That's ten basic actions. Also if I'm using the Mac I have to disconnect several times due to problems with other sites, the degree of inconvenience crosses my threshold of laziness.
