do we have the cube for the gammons? are we going to have it with this new bk?

Fencer
It will be done later.
Please give me some time to fix the most important bugs. Then I'll be able to work on feature requests.

How do I enable auto-login again? Seems the new version forces me to login all the time.

28. June 2004, 22:58:40
coan.net
There will no longer be an auto-login feature for BrainKing. You can check the "Remember ID" where you will then just have to enter the password each time, but no auto-login.

Fencer, I know I mentioned this over in the test version of 2.0, but would it be possible to have a bigger version of the pics in a person's profile?
As I mentioned, they are very difficult to see on the lower resolution of a TV set.. I know they can't be bigger everywhere, but I thought the profile would be the place that would make sense to put it.. Is that do-able??? (Or making the picture clickable, to just see a "blown up" version? .. that sounds like a lot of work, though.. lol)

I'm putting my face right up to the screen to try and see.. lol..

:-D

Will the different colours for the chess boards be back? I'm going to forget which variant I'm playing with it like this.

no auto-login? Why on earth not?

Actually it's quite annoying. All I need to do is navigate to another site and I am logged out. How about keeping the session alive for at least as long as the browser is open. I would expect a cookie to be used if requested by the user. Nothing particularly sensitive here.

hmmm - strange ...
for me it works the way you would want.

Mozilla 1.7 RC3, Firefox v0.9 as well and
also IE6 ... pwd-manager of Mozilla/Firefox
could handle your autologin onto that ...

Are proper checker pieces on your to do list Fencer?

29. June 2004, 13:48:27

gooner: Yes. Not at the very top but I didn't forget about it. And a proper checkers notation, of course.

The only reason to disable auto-login is to prevent people who may have access to your computer to go brainking.com and do something under your account. Since we are not talking about online banking here i honestly don't see a point taking a nice feature away. Yahoo, MSN, gmail let you do that. A lot more sensitive information is stored there.

I would like to request a "Boss" button like this one Here

I play at work and when I'm at work, my boss will sometimes try to take a quick look at what I'm doing. I simple page like that one would help me out alot! Thanks

seems to be a good idea having last 10 games on a persons profile
however
seems a little silly if it doesnt show who won?

Auto login has been temporarily disabled. Please wait for the list of all changes [which I publish today, hopefully] for more information.

Subject: Auto log in
Geez, you guys must be lazy! No wonder everyone seems to abbreviate. Is it that hard to type Good game, or must we all use gg, too?
I type my handle "Walter Montego", hit tab, type my password, hit tab, hit the space bar, I'm logged on. Now just how much trouble is that? Unless you're having to do it for every move, I don't see the problem. I log in once, and as long as I leave atleast one window on the site and don't log out, I never type it in again that session. Perhaps it's a nice convenience for the little amount of time it saves, but it sure isn't that much of a bother to make it sound like it's the end of the world. Considering some of the other bugs I've come across or heard mention of, I'd like Fencer's efforts directed toward them first if the auto log on feature is going to require a lot of programming to fix.

I'm a one finger typer so seven actions just to enter my password, I prefer to use a Mac, on this machine the main page is very slow to load when I'm not going there volitionally, so much so that I press "stop" then "reload" to speed it up. That's ten basic actions. Also if I'm using the Mac I have to disconnect several times due to problems with other sites, the degree of inconvenience crosses my threshold of laziness.

Subject: Viewing a Dark Chess board of a finished game
Modified by Walter Montego (2. July 2004, 06:08:47)
The finished games are staying dark, instead of showing the whole board as they used to. Is this a bug?
I'd like to request it be made the way it was, or improved by showing all three viewpoints of the players with the boards orientated at the viewer's option.

Fencer-
Before you changed to Version 2 of BrainKing, a finished game of Dark Chess could be viewed with the whole board shown. Now it is as if you were still playing the game. It's completely dark if two other people were playing the game. I'm not sure about ideas aside from what I posted in the previous post and on the Dark Chess discussion board about the problem and my suggestion for an improvement instead of just making it like it used to be. Which at a minimum would be nice to have as it was, instead of how it is now. Since you asked the question, I have to assume that you didn't purposely change the programming to make the finished games completely dark. That would qualify as a bug, would it not? I also sent you a short e-mail about it, too.

30. June 2004, 12:43:26
ughaibu
It's definitely "incorrect", it means we'd have to ask our opponent to send their moves and then find somewhere to replay it to view the game.

Is there a quick way to see which teams you are signed to in which fellowship or do you need to go through each game type individually???

HEY - No fair, i was going to make that suggestion once things settled down! :-)

Anyway, what I picture is possible a "Team managment" page where a person can see all the teams they belong to (and which fellowship), with easy links to each.

EDITED for Speelling mistacks :-)

Fellowship teams, if you go to ANY fellowship, and look at their team, it will say "you cannot join this team because you a member of XXX team" - if it has a link to join the team, then you're not in that type of team in any fellowship!

On Goldtoken it automatically selects the username field when the page comes up - i had a quick look at the source and it was a line of javascript:

<script language="JavaScript">
<!--
document.loginform.nickname.focus();
//-->
</script>

where "loginform" is the name of the form and "nickname" is the name of the textbox. With the HTML comments around it, it won't hurt people who don't have java enabled browsers, and will work for people who do.

I'd like to weigh in on the dark chess debate now that i've experienced it. We definitely should see the games afterwards in my opinion, in fact that's half the fun, seeing what the game looks like without the darkness.

hi there,
i would like a feature to be added that "helps" those players who play frequently to go up... . there are some players in some games who just played a few, got their very good BKR and remain there even if they didnt play for a year or longer. you cant paas them... . so how about a more intelligent calculation that takes points from those who do not play after a while?

I think better is if BK would hide the inactive players if they have not played a game since more than one year.We have discussed these themes a long time ago.

Right, just as you don't see Bobby Fischer near the top of the chess rankings now. Whatever system they use to roll people of the ranking list should be used here.
