Ok baddessi. I won't tell anyone else that you're TERRIBLE at Battleboats. We'll keep it our little secret. :)

Subject: Re: Poker
You obviously don't play Poker do you Bry? The winner always shows his hand if atleast one person called him at the end. Everyone at the table gets to see it if he is called, not just the players that stayed to the end. If you play a draw type game like Jacks or Better, the opener must show his hand when the game is over even if he's not involved in the showdown. This being the case, atleast when I play Poker as you might play it differently, I think you'll need to use another game for your anaolgy in the previous post as the principal is not showing in your argument at all.

Walter - apologies - I did mean on the occasion where it isn't called.

you can always ask your opponent to tell you the remaining positions of the ships, most players will tell you.

Subject: BattleBoatds feature request
could it please be made so that all BattleBoats (and Espionage) games are set to 'private' by default ?

in those games the starting position is very important and it get harder and harder to come up with a nice new setup each time when all old setups can be viewed by your opponent

please ? ;)

If a member is a moderator could this be shown in his/her profile along with fellowships etc?
Also the name of the board that he/she moderates.

Yes, it should be easy.

Very glad to see that ladders are coming. I am a big fan of the basic chessgames. So for me it would be so great if chinese chess (xiang-qi) and tre corean version could be here. And in Thailand they play an interesting variation called Makrok.
And I repeat my wish for THE GAME: Shogi.
Don't get me wrong; this is a great site :-)

How about a sponsor- a- pawn program for pawns who have financial problems. I have been asked by a few if there is one!

8. December 2004, 01:16:42
grenv
If they can't afford the rather meagre amount to play here then perhaps we should be sending them food instead of game site memberships?

Of course feel free to debate that with vigour.

there used to be a fellowship for that

8. December 2004, 01:22:13

It still exists. In name anyway. :)

It throws up a lot of problems and causes confusion. Who knows who is in genuine need?

8. December 2004, 01:32:19
Nirvana
Which one is it? There are one or two with genuine financial and personal problems. Game sites like this help to take people's minds off things even if only for a short while.

8. December 2004, 01:35:43

My mistake, Nirvana. The 'Boost a Pawn' fellowship has been deleted because the creator/big boss is no longer a member here. Sorry.

8. December 2004, 01:39:33

Playing for free as a pawn can serve that purpose. I was just trying to say that charity dollars could be better spent.
Having said that feel free to pay for whoever you want, more players is good.

8. December 2004, 01:40:47

So maybe a feature that needs re ~starting? Judging from the number of pawns who have asked me there is a demand for it!

Thanks any way, Bumble.

Feel free to start one, Nirvana. Good luck with it!

I agree Grenv. If you want to help someone who cant afford a membership, paying for them to become a member is not the way to go. There is plenty for a poor. down and out person to do here for free. Better to send them a check for health coverage, IMO.

But if thats what someone wants to do with their money..... so be it.

Subject: Aid-Program
Well, as far as I have been informed it concerns a member who is not able to renew his membership; so in this case its not about a multiple nic issue - its about supporting friends with whom we play and talk regularly...

Although I see many has given their 2 cents already, im not sure if that is the general opinion on this site with regards to this issue - so thats why I am posting on this issue anyways...

Its regarding a honest player who would be sad to leave this site.. If I would be in the position I think I would consider to help this person with this matter.. I hope others share my opinion..

Thank you and God bless you,

Subject: Battleboats bonus.
Since we are looking for new games. I would like to see my previously mentioned Battleboats bonus game with autopass feature incorporated. For details on the game, I am sure you can find it on the battleboats board. Hides so Fencer cant hit him for mentioning autopass. lol.

Subject: Sorted captured pieces
Can we get the captured pieces in chess, chess variants, and whatever other games it's appropriate for sorted by their values rather than by the move they were captured on? That would hlep a lot.

If someone is going to start a fellowship, then the Fellowships board is good. Don't worry about the mod on there. Any hassle and refer him to me. :D

The Fellowships board is for fellowships, but where would suit the Aid-Program?

I assume this Aid-Programme would be done in a fellowship where the members could discuss it?

D'uh! Excusez-moi :-) Im not feeling very well today, so you have to forgive me... Sure it can be done in such a FS or a public board even? Oops sorry, won't discuss it further here.. *smile

Subject: Offensive words
I would like to see a word filter implemented on posts. Before any post is saved to the database, the content is scanned for known offensive words. Any offensive word would be replaced with asterisks.

9. December 2004, 17:07:18
grenv
And which words are offensive to you? How about Cojer?
Even words I wouldn't blink at (such as goddamn) are offensive to some.

How about just ignoring it instead of being offended? You only give other people power over you otherwise.

Subject: Re: Offensive words
Sheesh...People are so antagonistic here sometimes...OK, I will be more specific.

There are words that Fencer has stated that the use of can consitute being Banned. Those are the words I am talking about.

FYI: who said I was offended?

9. December 2004, 17:57:31
grenv
I didn't say you were. But you used the word offensive so I assumed someone would be.

I hadn't realized there was a list. Do they include czech words? What are they?

9. December 2004, 18:57:02
Summertop
I don't know what ALL of them are. I am not sure a formal list exists. I have just seen posts by Fencer stating that anymore use a particular word may subject the person to be banned.

Subject: Re: Offensive words
I really like Summertop's suggestion. It would save many mods some time and make things more consistent across all the boards. It's a little tricky to implement, though, since words like 'hello' need to be properly handled. ;-)

9. December 2004, 19:39:10

Do we really need a formal list? I would have thought most of them are common sense.

9. December 2004, 19:43:29

Everyone just say one word they think might be no good, then we can make a list according to who gets banned and who does not.

How hard would it be to get in a chatroom or three on the site..

just wondering cause sometimes we all get on a topic of discussion and next thing you know we have added 300 posts to the board..

I bet with a chat room you could eliminate a bunch of the discussion boards as well.

As I understand it, chat rooms can take up a lot of resorces (more then normal), so I would not think you will see one hosted here.

What would be more likely is for someone to try to start a yahoo chat board dedicated to BrainKing users.

Subject: Introducing the New Group ~ BrainKing Live
and EVERYONE is invited to join in. I will need some moderators there since it will also be maintained as a family feature..

I am hoping it is a way to build on to some extra fun, and give us a different avenue. The group is accessible to those using computers, and webtv units. I don't know as of yet, if the chats are for webtv though. It would be nice to learn that it is.

For those of you not familiar with yahoo groups. Then, you will be excited to learn that there is so much to offer over there to build on to help compliment BrainKing.

  • Photo Albums
  • Message Board
  • Calendar
  • Link Page
  • Polls
  • Data Bases
  • File Storage
  • Chat Room

The chat room offers voice as well. And allows you to have fun with smilies and emoticons. It can be lots of fun.

I would suggest if you are wanting to have a chat. That you mention it on the main page the time that you are planning on going in. Since unfortuately Yahoo doesn't show who is online from the group members. Besides, it may take some time to have it catch on..

    Thanks.. Cathy

Please see me if you are interested in moderating..
