 Chess variants (10x8)

Sam has closed his piano and gone to bed ... now we can talk about the real stuff of life ... love, liberty and games such as
Janus, Capablanca Random, Embassy Chess & the odd mention of other 10x8 variants is welcome too

For posting:
- invitations to games (you can also use the New Game menu or for particular games: Janus; Capablanca Random; or Embassy)
- information about upcoming tournaments
- disussion of games (please limit this to completed games or discussion on how a game has arrived at a certain position
... speculation on who has an advantage or the benefits of potential moves is not permitted while that particular game is in progress)

I think the article could be so big as you want,so much content as you have.Normally the "Rochade-Europa" publishes scientific articles about all themes of chess.Games and diagrams would be very good and the Microsoft Word format also.
After the article was published I will inform over it and about some reactions of the readers.

Okay let`s make an experiment: You can send me an article with the theme "introduction in Gothicchess" and the title "The future of chess" or something and I will publish it in the known German Chessnewspaper "Rochade Europa". Perhaps we can add some of the best played games here or eleswhere. And then we wait for the comments of the great German Chess Community with many experts and topplayers. But the article should be in German,if you have someone who can translate (My English is not so good).Perhaps we can get at least some better (curious) players here in the future as now. :)

For myself I would have nothing against such a developement, because I like this game. But I think it is completely unrealistic for the next 20-30 years. The future will show it...
But interesting : Does your patent include such "Gothic variants"?

2. August 2004, 18:01:54

I won't make any intermixtures of variants.

Subject: Re: Combined variants
Although it is an exciting variant,I am very sure that "Gothic Chess" will n o t become a new chessstandard in the next hundred years. And because we have so many good and original variants at "Chessvariants.com" I am against intermixtures of variants...

Subject: Dark Gothic...wouldn't that sound cool?
oh, for sure it would! Just like chess variants today, it doesn't matter that the pieces are all the same, just as long as some rules are different. Gothic chess itself is based on Bird and Capa chess, GI himself even acknowledged that when filing for the patent. The patent protects the game of Gothic chess as his intellectual property. I was thinking, though, based on Walter Montego's suggestion, that maybe Janus extinction is better than gothic extinction because of the two Januses? I would sure love to try both though.

Subject: Combined variants
If gothic chess is to become the new standard, than it stands to reason that future variants would use it as their starting point, rather than FIDE chess. I'm not sure if the gothic patent would allow that, though?

Subject: which brings me to my next point
I like experimenting with new variants of just about everything. I know there are plenty of feature requests to Fencer for new games, but he is only one person and can only program so fast. However, the goth board and other chess variants are already programmed on BK, so it wouldn't take too much more time to combine the two. I believe Goth would combine very well with other variants, especially extinction, loop, dark (!!), 3 checks, anti and maaaybe atomic (we'd have to see if white has too great of an advantage). I would love to see those combined variants. Would you give your blessing to that, GI?

I like the gothic board and rules. It is great as a stand alone game, like chess.

Subject: nice offer
Just woke up, saw the action I missed. That match idea seemed quite equitable, ughaibu. I think it would be nice to have a decathlon too as suggested. I wonder if we will ever get realtime implemented a la Caissus Chess. I'm having no trouble reading the PDF.

I would love to see match play on BK between the top players of two not-too disparate variants (ie checkers and parachute checkers, goth and janus, amazons and tank battle (well, maybe that's stretching it) I think it would add flavor to the site and encourage players to be more eclectic.

your diffuse puberty rituals of fixative proving whatever are as low as your

a cheater is a definition, it's no insult either, so you better don't demand reports.
Although you have not apologized for your poor performance silly me presumed a courtesy
of leaving it behind. Of course we know why indeed you sulk about going away - it's easy chicken out from true competition. I for my part won't feel pelled to having hectic games with running rabbits - no game until licence is renewed. Due to my precious reward as serious

Subject: Caissus
I was thinking along the lines of one (unscheduled) day total for the games to reduce the possibility of outside help, with games continually coming, finish one the next starts, within that variant. I can accept that my preferance for the quicker variants would give me an advantage but then again my variants of choice, if restricted to those on BrainKing, could be considered more easily accessable for straight chess players.
