Yes it was very hilarious because the "girl" everyone was objecting to was a gorilla in a tutu. The last line was changed also to "different" at all on some early albums and wasn't meant to serve as a punch line..the theory being that the entire song was humorous enough on its own.

Many thanks! Now I can sing it (when nobody is listening) since I remember the tune. It was just a vid of Billy Joel in concert with some clips of the Nam war spliced in.

Billy Joel song and I forgot most of the lyrics. Was not a blockbuster hit but MTV was made of it.

I lived through this music when it was new and recognize almost all of it. It is today's music that leaves me cold.
