Pedro Martínez: you´re not seeing the game right...

1 - The referee was guilty of ruining the game, stressing both teams.

2 - Most of the cards were correct, but a match is for MEN, not sissi players like the USA team...

3 - The dutch were the first to be unsportman. They injures Ronaldo in a brutal aggression which deserved a red card, not a yellow card.

4 - The dutch team didn´t give the ball to Portugal, in a wrong decision of the referee who stopped the game when the portuguese player was running alone for the dutch goalkeeper. Then the dutch team must have been fair and give the ball to Portugal. That´s why Deco tackled the dutch player a few seconds later...

4 - Portugal have done a great match, due to all these circunstances, and we deserved to win the game...

Anyone who calls Figo "the best" 1 hour after the game with the Netherlands is either infatuated with nationalism or nuts.

The worst game I've seen so far at the World Cup. Brutal fouls, diving, malingering, unsportsmanlike conduct...you could find all these in the game. The referee did a good job handing out the red cards. He only missed giving one to Figo for that "nice" header. By the way, if I were either Portuguese or Dutch, I'd be ashamed for the way the players behaved tonight. I hope the English win the quarterfinals.

Well a typical american attitude, you should know that other cultures exists and Estados Unidos da America its another form to write USA. Gana its absolutely correct and you should loose some time in studying, before you start to complain...
Yeap world its not only America, thanks for that! :-)

Gabriel Almeida: It’s just sad to see some people who are so prejudice who because of certain people who make certain policies, they automatically apply their hatred with those people with everyone else in their country.

Just because Bin Laden is Arab does not make all Arab’s bad people. Just because Hitler was a bad person does not make all Germans or all Europeans bad people. It’s just sad to see so many narrow minded people still in the world today.

But back to soccer, both Ghana & the US were underdogs – Ghana is a good team which beat both the US & Czech Rep, and very much deserve to move on to the next round. If you want to compare Ghana & the US some more, then if you think about it, it should not have even been a close game. Ghana along with almost every other nation in the world has been playing & watching soccer for many years. The US team is very young, does not have much world competition experience, only recently been growing in popularity – and in my opinion, for the US to make it into the tournament is a big accomplishment. 8-12 years from now, the US should only then start to become more of a “power house” like other nations who have a much longer history with the game.

Congrats to Ghana – I always like to see an underdog win and will be one of the teams I will root for in the next round.

lukulus: I can see disliking certain Americans, but not all of us. And what has that got to do with soccer, anyway? Still, your reason for his behavior, whether or not logical, is probably it. This type of attitude towards sports is one of the main reasons I dislike national teams and sports. I'd rather have professionals and amateurs that play for themselves or a team without regard to what country they are from. Just like Major League Baseball is. And how 'bout the German guy on the Dallas Maverick's team? He's good, but I was rooting for Miami to win it. Teach Kobe and the Lakers a lesson about letting Shaq leave the team. Pat Riley coaching them too. Just like old times.

And ain't this the same team that beat Czech Republic, this Ghana squad? I may not know soccer, but losing to worthy opponents is nothing to be ashamed of. Just doing some American bashing from the sound of it as you didn't rag on the Czech team for losing earlier.

Bruno Jesus: So. Who cares? I hate soccer, and I don't mind being American. In fact, I'm proud to be American. If you get your jollies off because of some stupid soccer tournament, then that's your thing. You don't need to disparage the overwhelming majority of Americans that could care less about some soccer tournament. It's just a game. You didn't take the time to read my earlier post, but that's how it is. A team is a team, it is not a country. This cup series just brings out the worst in you nationalistic type people. I hope the United States never plays in it again, but unfortunately I know they'll field another team the next time it comes around. As I said in the other post, our good athletes play other games. Just imagine what'll happen to your boasting if the United States ever does win at international soccer. It's your game, you ought to win at it.

It's only a matter of time until the US starts to get some true soccer stars. In many areas in the US, 10 years ago - to play soccer as a child was not an option. Very few places, schools and such offered soccer - usually either baceball/t-ball, basketball, or (american) football - with some areas of the colder states possible offering hockey.

But today, many areas & schools have soccer teams for children to join - to play and gain their skills throughout their youth - and in the next 5 years or so, you will start to see some true US soccer stars start to form.... and possible have the US to become a true threat as a soccer powerhouse. (but this is still at least 5 years away, if not 10 years...)
